Marty Booker signs with Bears

Featured Replies

Looks like Moose got outperformed last year...in addition to being over 3 years older (and surely more expensive) than Booker.

And, to be fair, the Bears' QB situation was bad last year, but it wasn't nearly 0-16 bad.

I am pretty sure I saw in the Sun-Times blog tonight that Brad Biggs is reporting the Bears have signed Marty Booker to a two year contract. No details as yet. I would link the blurb but I am technologically challenged

Disclaimer- Sorry about this day late dollar short post- I did not see the thread that had been started...my bad :chair

Changing Moose for him is just a lateral move, but I won't complain because he has better hands and hopefully came rather cheap.

I remember when Booker left a few years back and there was a rumor that he actually was depressed because he wasn't in Chicago any longer. I think Booker will be a fantastic addition and will play his heart out for the time he is with the Bears. Good veteran player, already knows Chicago and wants to be there. This is a good thing you did Angelo especially after letting Moose go.

Now get us a decent RB. :cheers

rotoworld is reporting the same thing

This was posted last night at around 9 p.m. CT. There already is post, look at the top pinned thread.

So you AlaskanGrizzly will be punished by castration...

Financially that is a solid pickup. I would be a big fan of McCariens if you could get him. The Bears were connected to him in rumors a couple years back and I think he has the ability to fill out a solid WR cast (with Bradley/Hester being groomed as the big play guys) and McCarens/Booker as the hands specialist (plus Clark/Olsen). It isn't a great core, but it is more than solid with room to grow (ie Olsen/Hester/Bradley all have upside).

I am happy with Booker signing, thrilled in fact. Moose pretty much sucked, I think he really declined in the last year. Booker gives us a solid receiver, and with Hester and Bradley things don't look so bad....after all, we have Haas and Davis as well, not to mention two great tight ends. Let's get some OL NOW!

A key point I would make is, Booker was a #2 (and even #3 behind their TE) in Miami until the 2nd half of this past year, while Moose was our #1. Some might argue Berrian became our #1 this year, but I am not even sure of that. He was our playmaker, but I think we looked to Moose more.

Your #1 WR is going to see more balls go his way than another teams #2 or #3 options (AZ, Indy and a few others being an exception). And w/ the OL Miami had, the QB usually had enough time to look at the #1 WR, then either dump off or take a sack.

IMHO, that explains why Booker's numbers were down as much as anything. He was, at best, the 3rd options behind Chambers and McMichael, and in an offense like that, your QB doesn't often have time to get to the 3rd option.

That is the combo I am looking for too. I think Bryant Johnson is out. He is getting too much interest, which means the price will be too high, and while I think can be a very good WR, he is too similar to Booker. Yea, younger, but we choose the less expensive this time. I think Hackett is going to come at a price.

McCariens is a guy I would like to look at now. I have seen very little interest in him, and like you said, we liked him a while back. He also should be cheap enough that if Bradley or Hester do step up, contract will not force us to keep him in the lineup.

I forget, is McCareins a local guy?

Naperville guy. Went to Northern. Forget McCarrins....he's terrible. Go after DJ Hackett or Johnson. The Bears have the money since they didn't spend it on Berrian. Probably get Booker and Hackett for the same price as Berrian.

I think he went to college at Northern Illinois, or some other local school, but I do not know where he grew up.

Thanks nfo! Odds are if he went there, he's probably somewhat local...

I kind of like that....

I kind of like that....

He was born in Evanston, went to Itasca then Lisle for junior high/middle school, and went to a high school in Naperville.

Oh how this seemingly useless knowledge comes in hand some day...

McCarrins was a High School teammate with Chris Brown as well...
