October 21, 201312 yr comment_126611 BREAKING: Bears confirm Lance Briggs out 6 weeks (small fracture in shoulder), Cutler out at least 4 weeks (torn groin muscle). @ESPN1000 less than a minute ago Report
October 21, 201312 yr comment_126618 That is much better than what I expected. If he only misses 3 games with that injury, I don't know how you can be anything but relieved. I was thinking he'd be out bare minimum 8-10 weeks. Report

October 21, 201312 yr Author comment_126622 Excellent news considering the media commentary as to how bad he seemed back in the locker room Report
October 21, 201312 yr comment_126624 The biggest news is you get a good chance to continue to evaluate his progress. It really is too bad we don't have easy games in that span so McCown and the defense (somehow) are going to have to really step up. Report
October 21, 201312 yr comment_126628 BREAKING: Bears confirm Lance Briggs out 6 weeks (small fracture in shoulder), Cutler out at least 4 weeks (torn groin muscle). @ESPN1000 less than a minute ago Before we start collectively breathing a sigh of relief, think we need to see what the report says and really what it means. As you have probably seen from a few comments here and there, this (groin tear) is not an injury you simply are back in the game after the 'recommend' heal time. Sometimes recovering from such an injury depends on many factors; to include history of this injury, grade of tear (minor, incomplete or complete) and possibility of replicating the injury. As pointed out in this article Groin Injuries in Athletes sometimes athletes are able to return to their playing abilty after "4-8 weeks" for "acute musculotendinous strain" or as long as "six months for chronic strains." The article continues to say that a larger number of players "...were able to return to their sport after an eight- to 12-week active training program". Now all that being said and conventional wisdom being what it is, they said that after two-three concussions the athlete should consider not playing anymore. Yet Cutler is still playing. Problem here is that this injury affects mobility more than anything else. The other issue that needs to be noted is that Briggs is out for six weeks. What condition will the team be in come six weeks from now? Will it be worthwhile for Cutler to hurry himself back to play or just call it a year and accept the fact that either he won't be a Bear next year or need to be Franchise tagged? Report

Yeah, Greg Jennings came back from the same injury last year and wasn't the same player. Amendola this year has sucked after coming back from a torn groin. My initial reaction to the "4 weeks" news was relief, but it is very possible that he's not going to be nearly as effective when he does come back. The only positive is that it wasn't a complete tear that would have required him to miss the rest of the season + part of next year, which could have ruined his career. Report
October 21, 201312 yr comment_126633 COuld be worse. At least there's a good shot at seeing him finish the season. Has a torn muscle Report
October 21, 201312 yr comment_126653 Briggs injury sucks, but the Cutler injury is far worse in my opinion. With Briggs we know what he brings to the table, there is no question about him. With Cutler this is the biggest year of his career for him and the Bears. Phil and Trest need to see if he is the QB of the future. Part of me thinks Trest has seen enough with games and practice to know which one it is. I have been impressed with Cutler this year considering he is in a new system again. Ill be praying it is only 4 weeks and Cutler isn't hampered after he comes back. The Bears seem to have the worst luck with shit like this. We need help at oline so we draft Colombo he get hurt. Same with Carmi and Williams. We trade a 2nd for the DE from Tampa and he passes away. We finally get a high draft pick and we draft Benson who is an ass bag, leaves for Cincy and was a decent back for them. Can we catch a break!!!! Report

October 22, 201312 yr comment_126713 I have an odd feeling that we just saw the last game we will see Cutler in a Bears uniform. Cutler does not fit Trestman's style of QB even though Cutler has performed very good when playing with discipline. If McCown can come in and perform like that, without any reps, it is hard to believe that he will not improve over time with 1st Team reps. We will see, but I just have an odd feeling about it. October 23, 201312 yr comment_126730 Be weary of fools gold. Bacvk-ups sometimes do very well at the spur of the moment. They are at ease and the D didn't expect it. Let's see what happens in GB. That will be very telling. But, I don't think you're horribly offbase. It might by the case. So much depends on what happens over the remainder of the season. If McCown does well, Jay might not be a Bear... Not that McCaown would be the guy, but that the logic would say a good QB could be more affordable and produce similar results. Barring the Cincy game, Cutty's yet to beat anyone of any calibur. NO was the test and we failed. And a week 1 win can be very misleading... It'll be interesting for sure. At this point, I think Cutty is the way to go...but there's a lot to be seen still... I have an odd feeling that we just saw the last game we will see Cutler in a Bears uniform. Cutler was completely ineffective and then McCown comes in and looks like the starter. I won't hold judgement for the GB game because they have had our number for years regardless of QB, but McCown did start against them a couple of years ago and was decent. If he can limit the INTs, it will be up to the defense to stop somebody. Report

October 24, 201312 yr comment_126773 Yeah, GB may put up a ton of points on our D. There offense has struggled due to injuries but I still think they put up 40+ on us. Feels odd saying this but I have no confidence in that D at all anymore Report
