McCaskey was on radio (today I think) and indicated based upon his discussions with Pace and Fox that they are still a ways away and this will be an extended process to rebuild the franchise from where it was and was going to take multiple more years. With that in mind, I think it makes it even more likely that you can't write-off the QB position for the Bears. Pace is on fire this offseason. It is hard to think of another team that has literally addressed a major need with a solid to great player without breaking the bank with every acquisition or signing. Just look at some of the other contracts handed out. If we can now add some depth in the secondary, I think we are set going into the draft. Maybe Robinson and Bruton, and re-sign Miller. Do we really have a strong need at any other positions?

Packers cut Josh Sitton after failing to trade him With question marks around K Long's shoulder, in order to return Lawson to Center, I would not mind seeing the Bear's signing Sitton. I think he would be a valuable spot starter and depth for the OL. However, I would not be surprised if GB resigns him at a lower contract number.

I was just thinking about what the Bears should do in the draft (same thought for a month now), and the more I think about it, a trade with Cleveland makes sense. Cleveland has two 1st round picks: #1 & #9. Cleveland needs a QB. Cleveland sucks on defense as well. Cleveland has a ton of picks and can move up. If they pass on Garrett at #1, no way he's there at #9. They won't pass according to this report. But the QBs are a different story. I am disappointed at missing out on one big signing of a playmaker, but lets look at last year first. Everybody got excited at signing Trevathan but we missed out on Malik Jackson and Javous Jenkins, I dont remember people complaining much. We signed Hicks, Freeman and Sitton that all made our team better but I dont remember people celebrating such great free agents. Massie ended up being an okay signing. Hicks was close to being a pro bowl player, Sitton did make the pro bowl and Freeman played like a stud while Trevathan got hurt. I keep seeing mocks and discussion that list OJ Howard as a possible pick. I just can't see it. In fact, it borderline pisses me off. As far as I'm aware, #3 would be the highest drafted TE ever. On top of that, many are saying this is the deepest TE class ever. A top-5 pick on OJ Howard makes so little sense it's baffling. So please, anyone, convince me why it's remotely a smart idea.

Just heard the newest spin on the NFL draft from "sources" close to the Bears. Supposedly Pace was told to get a QB no matter what with the first pick. He is not the man in charge when ownership is making the football decisions. Why does everything have to be a conspiracy. From Fox didnt know to this now. The Chiefs (edit:had -Cardinals) were praised for trading away their future for Mahomes and they said you do that for a QB that can be your franchis for 10 years. Bears do it and the world collapses.

He was called 10 minutes after the pick and the next morning. So this also ties back into the secrecy scenario and the need to keep things quiet. Just heard on the score that Josh Freeman visited the Bears today. He is a big pudwack and dont think that's a good idea.

I watched the video clip about him and they mentioned him going in Rd 3. CBS draft board has him as a 5th Rd pick. I think we go QB in 4-5th Rd so Savage is a guy who should be on our radar.
