The 49ers are putting ILB Michael Wilhoite on the trading block, reportedly looking for a 6th or 7th round pick. He beat out Chris Borland last year to win the starting ILB job for Fangio. His stats weren't eye popping or anything, but he did start a whole season for a top 5 defense. At the very least you typically won't get a guy in the 6th or 7th round that could come in and compete for an ILB spot right out of the box. If Fangio likes this guy, getting a starting ILB for a 6th round pick would be huge.

Free Agents are dropping fast by re-signing with their original teams (and not even testing free agency). Kind of odd, but it is definitely going to inflate the market for those left in it. Bad news for us and others with cap space and holes to fill. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/574377096652406784

I don't know if anyone listened to the Slauson interview, but it was pretty good (link below). He said he was impressed with Pace and his vision, talked with Coach Fox about accountability (wants to be held accountable as professional athletes, doesn't want gray area, wants black and white, and that is what Fox is all about). He was asked about Long moving to LT, and just said we need him on the field. He said Forte is an every down back. On Marshall, he said he didn't know a whole lot about personnel decisions, so he couldn't say that he was surprised or not; but Brandon is a great player and will be missed on this team. This seemed like a really odd answer a…

I still like him as a prospect to develop. Bucky Brooks has him listed as the 5th best QB prospect but more often I've seen him listed as a 5th or 6th Rd pick. I think he'll go earlier than that. http://www.nfl.com/now/share?id=b8a84934-a...d1-138c9ee5f566 http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players...84/sean-mannion

I was thinking about the uncertainty of our draft, and wondered if you guys would rather see, if it happened, an all offense draft or all defense draft? For instance: 1 - Amari Cooper, WR, Bama 2 - Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon 3 - Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA 4 - Reese Dismukes, C, Auburn 5 - Shaquille Mason, G, Georgia Tech 6 - Dominique Brown, RB, Louisville OR 1 - Vic Beasley, DE/OLB, Clemson 2 - Shaq Thompson, ILB, Washington 3 - Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon 4 - Derron Smith, S, Fresno State 5 - Joey Mbu, NT, Houston 6 - Deshazor Everett, CB, Texas A&M Try to make one semi-acceptable. It's tough.

Using my mega sophisticated draft value scoring system, using the CBS Sports Big Board, Pace is a boss right now. In 3 picks he has increased the value of our draft by the equivalent of a mid 3rd round pick. We basically got Goldman and Grasu later than their grades without having to trade up to get them. I compare the slot they were projected in, and add or subtract the draft trade value for those slots to where they were actually drafted. Then I take the cumulative total to come up with the overall value of the draft. Name/Pick/Big Board/Value Kevin White 7 - 7 = 0 Eddie Goldman 39 - 27 = +170 pts Hroniss Grasu 71 - 61 = +57 pts Total = +222 (+ mid 3…

As the owner's meetings get underway in San Francisco it seems clear we're going to get a change to the extra point rules. I'm curious which option folks prefer. I like the Competition Committee plan 14b the best. If it's a competitive play IMO the defense should be equally allowed to score as the offense does. I think the Eagles plan 14b, 2 point conversion to the 1yd line, is making the 2 point conversion too easy and sort of defeats the purpose of making this a more competitive aspect of the game. I do agree that a safety, even on an extra point (try), should be 2 points as it always is. However, getting a safety on any try is extremely unlikely so …

http://www.profootballfocus.com/articles.p...arc=&id=151 No. 25 -- Chicago Bears The Bears were one of the teams that had only a couple of guys play well, whilst the others struggled and left their offense dead in the water. The "couple of guys" in this case were center Olin Kreutz and right guard Roberto Garza, with the rest being various shades of poor. None was worse than Orlando Pace and it was a huge mistake believing he had much left in the tank (he didn't). By the time he was benched in Week 13, the Bears were already gasping for air. Amazingly, as poor as a right tackle as Chris Williams was, he may end up being a success story if he can keep up his late-…

I'm a little alarmed how the Bears haven't found an OL in the draft yet...perhaps they already knew they were going to look at FA's.

So apparently Brian Billick has invented a new stat, and it actually looks pretty smart. He calls it the "Fox-Tox Rating" (which is sort of a dumb name, I admit) and it's basically a composite of turnovers and what he calls "explosive" plays (runs over 12 yards or passes over 20.) It's basically the differential in turnovers (turnovers created on defense minus turnovers committed on offense) taken together with the differential in big plays (big plays on offense minus big plays allowed on defense.) It's apparently a good predictor of success: a good Fox-Tox rating correlates very well with winning and making the playoffs, and a bad one correlates well with losing. …

Yesterday I spent my annual trip to Bear's TC on my B-day. I have just a few points to make and I'll keep it short. 1. It was hot as Hell yesterday and I was wondering how these guys could practice in this intense heat for 2 hours. 2. The most intense groups working out at camp are the offensive and defensive lines where the only skirmish of the day occurred and the sound of the pads hitting was the loudest from these groups. 3. Julius Peppers is a very huge man and looks bigger in person than he does on TV. 4.Greg Olsen worked out with the WRs when the offense was working on running drills 7 on 7 while Clark, Davis and Angulo worked in the running drl…
