The NFL has changed in recent years since the "gotta make a football move" rule after a catch. I'm not sure if that verbage of the rule still exists, but I nevertheless haven't been a fan of whatever form of this rule we've had in recent years. I've never liked the rule because I see it time and again taking away legit forced fumbles because the player only took a step and a half after the catch or some nonesense...whatever, apparently not enough to clearly show maintained possesion in today's NFL. I have, however, understood that the rule was at least intended to eliminate cheap fumbles that come only an instant after the receiver controls the ball, so implemented …

After a day of pondering the game... 1. Hester is such a joy to watch! So glad he's back taking kickoffs like so many of us have been screaming for... He is a difference maker there. 2. Cutler had a big boy game. He made a bad mistake in the red zone, but made up for it with pretty much flawless decision making other than that. The playaction to Kellen was a thing of beauty. 3. The D looks good. They are oportunistic. Pretty much the pedigree that Smith was hired on. I still worry about the big gaffe by the safteies that led to a TD and a PI. I still would like a little more pressure on the QB... But overall, these guys are playing good defensi…

When will we find an identity? Maybe it is what the media gives us, but it seems we don't have a leader on that side that rallys the troops. When the defense takes the field, we should be on the edge of our seats. We should see LBs mug the line, question the O with alignment movement, and consistant attacks from different personnel. Besides Fuller and Young, who else has shined? Maybe Kyle Fuller develops into that leader vocally and performance, but I would like to see a MLB or S since they are usually calling the alignments and blitzes. The way our roster is composed contract wise, the Bears really shouldn't draft a high LB unless one can be all that. Four guys to kee…

Two NFL sources told the Tribune the Bears have expressed interest in the veteran that has started 114 games in his career for the Dolphins, Raiders and Colts. How well the Bears answer five key questions will determine how many games they win in 2008: 1.Can they create turnovers the way Lovie Smith teams typically do? Defensive coordinator Bob Babich calls it the " AT&T'' approach -- attack, tackle and takeaway. But lately the Bears cannot find a good connection with the way they like to play defense. Their defense created only 13 of their 33 takeaways in the first half of last season and by then it was too late to recover. Overall, that was 11 fewer takeaways than 2007. Smith's teams need turnovers to win; he is 21-5 when winning the turnover battle since taking over in 2004. When the Bears have fewer takeaw…

I'd like to see the coordinators given the axe, with people brought in to bring in new ideas. Lovie seems like a guy everyone likes, and has had success, but there are definitely changes needed.

  12. if there is please list them as i didn't see anything that would say this was a professional football team. glennon? hope you banked your salary cause it's the last one you will ever see in the nfl. if they actually start him again fox and pace both better be touching up their resumes. our offensive coordinator? what the hell kind of a game plan was that? if you have that little faith in your qb there is no reason to even start him. just run the pistol or whatever the hell they call it for the whole game. is this some whitehair impersonator? if not, he is playing like garbage. any hack could look as bad as him. where is shaw at these days? if trubisky…

The dude keeps playing well, keeps putting in the effort, and I'm ecstatic about his performance this year. Against the Cowgirls he was the defensive player in tight coverage when Ogletree let the ball ricochet high in the air. The ball was gone before Jennings touched him, but I'm sure the coverage affected the play. Briggs' INT doesn't get returned for a TD if not for Jennings. He flew in to help out, giving just enough support for Briggs to waltz into the end zone. And on two of the three missed Cowboy bombs, it was either Conte or Wright who should have had coverage. I don't remember the other. The Bears may have found a long term (edit: cornerb…

  14. The Bears have hired Dwayne Stukes and Sean Desai to be the assistant ST coach and one of the defensive QB coaches, respectively. Stukes played in the NFL, NFL Europe, and the AFL and last coached in the NFL in 2011 as Tampa Bay's ST coach. Sean Desai has been in the college ranks including times at Miami, Boston College, and Temple. This is interesting because he has an Indian last name. I wonder if 1) he is Indian and 2) how many other Indian coaches are in the NFL? They also have hired Tim Tibesar as the LB coach. He worked under Trestman for 3 years in Montreal and used to be the Purdue DC. (mods, can you edit this thread title to include Tibesar's name…

It's not being discussed but Trey Burton was a very late addition to the injury report and didn't play. At that point the entire game plan is in and practiced and there's no time to adjust. I see a lot of chatter about the play calling early in the game, and to be honest all those short passes outside really bothered me. Last year in the playoffs Nagy lost Kelce in the middle of the game and it basically shutdown the Chiefs offense. He interviewed for the Bears job a day later. On the flight to Chicago he made it clear to Pace how important having a TE who can stretch the field was to his offense. For him losing that player two seasons in a row like that has to feel…

Okay, we are nearly done finalizing our rules. Thus far, we have voted on and decided that we will keep one player from last year. To keep that player, we will give up one round higher than the one the player was drafted. And finally, 1st round picks from the previous year are not eligible for keeper status. The final decision (I think) is how we set up the draft. I have seen several options listed, but again, based on discussion, and trying to keep it simple, I am going to put into the poll the two main options I think I have seen discussed. Pretty simple. Either the draft is random, or based on last year's standings. I vote random.

Nick Fairley injured his foot during practice and is in a walking boot. The team doesn't know how severe the injury is and there is speculation that it could be a possible stress fracture.

Got some free tickets for the Cards game so I decided to take in a game. Realizing it's only preseason but this is typically the best preseason effort of the first string here's some of my thoughts on the first half of the game and what it might mean for us in game 1. The final score of the game doesn't indicate all that happened. Green Bay defense vs. Cards offense Packers liked bringing pressure especially up the middle. Sometimes they were very effective but often this was due to the Cards WR running some deep routes and Warner had nowhere to throw. That and/or Warner held the ball too long on some plays instead of hitting the quick dump off. Overall Warn…

McBride can feel like a 5th-round pick now Trumaine McBride figured all along he would be a fifth-round draft pick. At least he’s been compensated like one. The cornerback was the Bears’ biggest winner in the NFL’s performance-based pay system that rewards players for being on the field. The system adopted in 2002 provides the highest payouts to players who play the most and earn the least. As a seventh-round draft pick, 221st overall, McBride received a signing bonus of $55,250 for his four-year contract with a base salary of $285,000 last season. The payout received in performance-based pay? In excess of $200,000 according to two league sources, meaning McBr…
