What are your top 5 surprises and disappointments? Top 5 surprises: 1. John St Clair- the guy is handling some of the best DE's in football. 2. Kevin Payne- who knew this guy would be our leading tackler? 3. Matt Forte- I knew he was a stud, but I didn't know he'd be the favorite to win OROY. 4. I think that it is panning out very well: - Olsen + (looks to be breaking out) - Bazuin - (el busto) - Okwo - (el busto but Angelo did go get Nick Roach who has looked very good on special teams) - Wolfe + (leads special teams in tackles this yr; just scored his 1st TD) - Payne + (starting and leading the team in tackles and interceptions) - Graham + (has started last 3 games and is a special teams stud) - McBride + (started 9 games last yr and did a very good job in relief last week) - Bryant - (el busto - decided he did not want to play football) Angelo also picked up Tonei who looked good at the end of last yr. The guy has been MIA in the offense for the most part till he was involved a few times this week. In past seasons he was our go to guy. Is it that Kyle's comfort level with Olsen is higher than his comfort level with Clark? Or is Des just not as sharp this year. He had what could have been a very boneheaded mistake by getting the ball punched out at the end of that reception. He owes Davis dinner for saving his arse by following the play. Just seems like he's been non-existent for the most part. I had thought they'd lean on him more then they have.. and maybe he had a slow start but is coming on.

Listening to Hampton on the Score today, and he threw a couple things out there: (1) He said we do not adjust on defense for different opponents, and simply believe our scheme will work equally effective against anyone, regardless of what sort of offense we face. That isn't to say we do not see ANYTHING different, but that we run the same scheme regardless of what we face. (2) There was a lot of talk about motivation after the flat defensive performance(s). Hampton said a coach doesn't get a player ready for a game by screaming and yelling on game day, but does so throughout the week. It is difficult to make any significant changes during a regular week. You can tweak this or that, but larger scale changes are difficult during a regular week, when you have to spend about 1/2 the week specifically game planning for the opponent, rather than focusing too much on internal changes. So often teams look to the bye week as an opportunity to make larger scale changes. Also a time when many teams make coaching changes/adjustments, which also affect scheme. FOXSports' Jay Glazer reports that the 49ers have decided not to wait for their Week 9 bye to fire Mike Nolan. Nolan is out as head coach effective immediately. The Niners let the news leak out a week before they planned to take action, which would have made the entire week and next Sunday's game against Seattle a circus. Assistant head coach/linebackers Mike Singletary has agreed to step in. Nolan took over in '05 with the organization in shambles. He is a good football coach, but didn't get results after a promising 7-9 2006 campaign. His record ended up at 18-37 in four seasons.

Hey, its a bye week, so how about a little fun. Here is how I see some of our players (offense) finishing the year statistically. Orton: 3,900 yards - 24 TDs - 8 picks. Forte: 1,150 rushing yards - 11 TDs - 56 catchs - 480 receiving yards - 2 TDs. Olsen - 60-900-6 (I think he is on the verge of taking over as a lead receiver) Clark - 45-525-2 Lloyd - 60-750-4 Davis - 50-660-3 I think our run game is going to continue to struggle. Forte may have a good/big game here and there, but I think he will continue to struggle on the ground, due in largest part to our OL. It seems that everyone knows how to exploit it. Everyone understands the gaps and holes. And, most importantly, when the Bears go to it exclusively, they get raped. Is it because it's a passive approach? OR Is it because the Bears don't have the personnel to run it any more? Either way, the Bears almost let a win go yet again. This "playing not to lose" crap has killed the Bears this year, and it appears that Lovie and crew haven't learned their lessons. Thank goodness the offense and ST put up so many points today, because those last ten points to the Vikings were way too easy.
