Briggs: Excited, but how about a safety Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs is following his team's free agent pursuits on Friday via the Internet, and while he liked what he saw early, he has a suggestion. The Bears set up interviews with top free agent Julius Peppers, as well as running back Chester Taylor. And the Bears have locked up tight end Brandon Manumaleuna for five years. "I'd be excited [to get Peppers]," Briggs said on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "Obviously, when you get a premier defensive end like Julius Peppers, he's going to help bolster any defense." Briggs was asked how he would like his defensive huddle in…

Taylor says he didn't demand to be the starter in Chicago Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2010 5:36 PM ET Running back Chester Taylor, who jumped Friday from the Vikings to the Bears, told Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times that the veteran didn't condition his decision on being the starter. "I didn't come here like that," Taylor said. "[Matt Forte's] a great player. I'll come in with the mindset that we're teammates, but we'll compete." Right, but Taylor contract suggests that he's the top man on the totem pole, and that Forte is now the secondary player. Regardless of who's No. 1 or No. 2, Taylor realizes the importance of spreading the load. "…

Lito Sheppard lines up suitors Posted by Mike Florio on March 8, 2010 2:40 PM ET Cut last week by the Jets, veteran cornerback Lito Sheppard is looking for a new home. We're told that two teams are in the mix for his services. Per a league source, the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears have expressed interest. To date, no visits have been scheduled. Sheppard was traded last year from the Eagles to the Jets. The eight-year veteran appeared in 11 regular-season games with nine starts in 2009. He started eight in a row before being removed from the starting lineup for the AFC title game.

Bears can pull the plug on Peppers after one year Posted by Mike Florio on March 8, 2010 11:07 PM ET We mentioned earlier tonight some of the details relating to the Julius Peppers deal. We've picked up some more information about the contract, and it's now clear that if the Bears clean house after the 2010 season, it'll be easier for the new regime to bid Peppers adieu. As Peter King of SI.com pointed out this afternoon, Peppers gets $20 million in 2010 (all but a $100,000 workout bonus is guaranteed). But the $22 million in guaranteed money that he's due to receive in 2011 and 2012 is guaranteed for injury only. This means that the Bears can decide after…

Jerry rolled the dice on Melton and lost out, IMO. I think Melton would've been available in the 5th round. Damn it.

Bears | Pace tried to get Holt to sign Comment (0) Sat, 09 May 2009 06:30:32 -0700 Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears OT Orlando Pace said he tried until the last minute to get Jacksonville Jaguars WR Torry Holt to sign with the team while he was a free agent. "We were working on that for a while," Pace said of Holt. "But I think it's a good fit for him in Jacksonville. He wanted to be in warm weather." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bears | Interested in Toomer? NFL Still Plans To Try To Suspend The Williams Wall Posted by Mike Florio on June 2, 2009, 1:24 p.m. There’s an erroneous Associated Press report regarding Tuesday’s hearing in the case brought by Vikings defensive tackles Kevin and Pat Williams due to the StarCaps suspensions. The AP report initially said that the league’s lawyer told Hennepin County Judge Gary Larson that the NFL “won’t try to enforce its four-game suspension” of the two players. Not true, we’re told. The league instead told the Court that Kevin and Pat Williams will not be suspended until the first game of the regular season, and that in the interim they are free to participate in a…

http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=5887 I am really excited about a healthy Kevin Jones and a fully developed Olsen. He looked great on the video clips. Forte and Jones have the opportunity to form a really solid duo out of the backfield.
