After both retired, Tunney asked Butkus about his zest for violence. " I always called him Richard. I asked him, ‘Richard, did you ever intentionally try to hurt somebody?’ “He said, ‘Nah, not unless it was in a game or something.’” From a story https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2019/12/12/21005035/fumble-pile-violence-nfl-stories Why I love watching football. Always viewed it as contact ballet. It's the grace of a WR or a running back. An OF line or DF player on one hand wanting to pile drive the other yet be so graceful as to just make them pound air. Such a violent yet graceful game. And then you add the chess like strategy.

Here is the current list of top 100 FA's for 2020 from The Athletic. I excluded the top 30 due to the expected salaries and/or projected tags. This is the remaining list. If you could pick 4 guys off this list to target, who would they be? After reading some articles about FA TE failures, I am avoiding TE in FA. I selected Fuller's brother at CB, Vonn Bell to play SS, Vaitai to replace Leno, and Glasgow at G. All are young enough to play out a full contract. I also re-signed Kwit (not counting that as a target). Then in the draft, the team can address TE, Edge, speed at WR, and depth. Top 1-30 Excluded: 31. Chris Harris Jr., CB, Broncos (31) 32. D.J. Humphr…

Looking at the Bears’ cap situation, I think we have a lot of options for cuts and trades. At this moment we have an estimated $13 Million in cap room. -------------------------------- LEONARD FLOYD -------------------------------- Floyd is due $13,222,000 this year with no dead cap. If you cut or trade him, you instantly gain $13 Mil in cap room, which can sign two or three quality free agents. There is no way Floyd plays under this contract for us in 2020. You can pretty much consider him cut and add $13Mil to your cap. Then you can think about what you WOULD pay him as a free agent. Aaron Lynch got $1.5 Million to play backup to Floyd. Floyd …

One year, $7M, $5.5M guaranteed. Too rich for us.

Huge signing (according to Pace), this obviously addresses the need at TE. I don't expect another TE to be signed.

This has fueled speculation that the Bears are sniffing around Carr. Thoughts?

A pretty decent breakdown for QB options. I don't think Carr is #1. Dalton and Keenum make sense. If you are going to go with Rosen, then you might as well consider Driskel or McCarron. If you are going to go with a vet option like Rivers, then why not someone like Matt Moore on the cheap? He played well in KC filling in for Mahomes. Knows the system. Brady is silly, and Alex Smith will never play football again.

Among this WR class Claypool is way down the list and is ranked as a 4-6th Rd pick. As a WR he's not really running away from anyone but he's still got good enough speed to get deep. At 6'4" and reportedly around 230lbs is he a good fit for the U-TE position Burton plays?

I found this guy on Twitter who has compiled some data on college and combine numbers compared to NFL success. Very interesting. https://haydenwinks.com/project-tag/draft-research/ The QB data is here: https://www.rotoworld.com/article/numbers/nfl-draft-analytics-qb The top 5 stats that correlated to NFL numbers were College Passing TD's to NFL TD's and Yds/g; College Passing Yards to TD/g and QB Rating, and College Yds/g to NFL TD/g. Now I know there are top college guys that don't do anything in the NFL, but the odds are that the top QB's will be from the top group of players with high passing yards and passing TD's in college. The odds of them having l…

Two things stood out to me when they spoke at the combine. Pace didn't make a total commitment to MT ( put off fifth year option until May)and spoke on the effort of improving the OL and TE spots besides potentially fixing the QB problem. Tells me he will add both draft picks and vets to get that done at TE and OL. Also that he has a plan at QB that if it materialized, he would move on from MT. Nagy said that he needed to adopt the offensive scheme to his personal. So had he did that last year, we may have had 2 or 3 more victories.

I have two Rd 2 WRs I like: Jalen Reagor and now adding Brandon Aiyuk to my list. Both are very similar body types and similar athletes with speed to go the distance any time. More importantly both are good receivers. Either would really help open up our passing game.

Maybe I should setup a poll but I'm just curious if anyone else (besides me) would trade Cohen? He's not a RB and he's good as a slot WR but doesn't really offer the deep threat we need. He is one of the best PR in the league so that has value. It's a deep WR draft so I'm not sure any teams would bite but then again he's a proven commodity which is a big deal as compared to any day 3 draftee. Plus he's relatively cheap at $2mil for the year. That said if we do draft a player like Reagor or Aiyuk who can both do the PR duties when/where does Cohen earn snaps? We're still hanging onto Patterson as the trick play guy and he's better at that than Cohen is. We cou…

https://chicago.suntimes.com/bears/2020/2/27/21156762/bears-free-agent-austin-hooper-tight-end Very interesting. If this is true, and it's a bit surprising since Pace never likes to tip his hand, then my take is that Pace fully expects to have a lot more cap space than the $26mil we have right now before FA rolls around. The two most logical extensions (or cut) AR12 and Floyd. Remember we also have to resolve ILB which won't be that cheap. Why would Pace let this leak out when that's not his usual MO? Or is he just pushing the Packers, who may also be interested in Hooper, to spend more money. Is this a new strategy to let other teams know we're in i…

Never heard of this guy but then again I'm not doing any research on QBs this year. https://www.walterfootball.com/combine2020blog.php Florida International quarterback James Morgan was another quarterback multiple team sources said impressed them. Morgan has a live arm, and he did a very good job of throwing the ball accurately with velocity during the field workout at the combine, building on his strong week at the East-West Shrine. Team sources said that Morgan also interviewed well with teams. A number of teams are showing a lot of interest in Morgan, including the Bears, Packers, Buccaneers, Jets, Panthers and Colts. I see poor mechanics when …

Looking at this revised big board by Matt Miller I would gladly trade back both of our 2nd Rd picks or one to get 4 picks in top 100. I could be very happy with various combinations of players available between 50 and 100. Say Cleveland wants to get another early 2nd Rd pick at 43 (470pts) and gives us both of their 3rd Rd picks (220/140pts) plus their 4th Rd pick (70pts). We then have 50, 74, 90, and 112 plus our own 4th Rd pick at 144. Then HOU trades with us for 50 giving us 58 and 101. It's a bit in our favor but if they don't give 101 they could give 108. Now we have 58, 74, 90, 101, 112, 144 and further down we still have 163, 196, 200, 233. Fr…
