I believe he is the longest-tenured Bear and made $1.75M last year. The Bears just signed Ryan Winslow who was a UDFA with the Bears in 2018. Could this be the end of Mega Punt? The Bears also signed long snapper Beau Brinkley, which could also spell the end for Patrick Scales ($1.13M). Between these guys and the vet min, they could save about $1M in cap space between the 2.

Watching the youngsters improve as the game went along was enjoyable. There is still room to grow but there are quite a few positives coming out of this game and I think the Oline's confidence will be much higher this weekend.

Last year we were the top rushing defense in the league, tied leading the league in interceptions with 22. Other areas we were not very strong. When Sweat got here things started to change. The worst pass rush in the league got better. We lost Justin Jones ( a good player) and Eddie Jackson who IMO didnt contribute anything to the defense. What's different? I was looking up some numbers, basically to see how rare a situation Myles Garrett is in with his level of individual dominance combined with team failures and right off the bat, he is definitely up in the top 10 all-time. With a career AV of 123, he has only played in 3 playoff games. There are only 7 players with higher AV and 3 or fewer playoff games. 6 played pre-1970, leaving Willie Roaf as the only modern day player to have more AV with 3 or fewer playoff games. He has a 145 AV with only 3 playoff games. So if CLE misses the playoffs again in 2026, Garrett will pass Roaf during the 2027 season with the highest AV with fewest playoff games in NFL history (SB era). …

Despite our issues at WR for some reason I still lean toward fixing the CB/S position in Rd 2. That's not to say I wouldn't draft a WR there if the right talent fell to us. Maybe at this point I simply like the DB options in Rd 2 better than the WR options. Looking at WR who will still be on the board in Rd 2-5 I came across Justyn Ross. Physically he's an easy fit to step into ARob's role but he has some serious injury history having had surgery to repair a congenital fusion condition with his neck and spine. I know it's only two preseason games but for many years we were in the mode of saying that the offense is behind the defense and by game 1 of the regular season things will be better. Keep in mind this is without Jordan Howard and a good QB leading the #1 offense. Plus we've played against the two of the better defenses in the NFL in Denver and Arizona. Cohen gets much of the credit but he's getting some help up front too. We're still getting new players up to speed as well in Sims and Shaheen, plus Long in at LG. Injury is a bit of a concern though.

People forget how bad last year's Week 1 was because the Bears won, but I doubt people remember that the offense didn't score a TD (Stevenson had a Pick-6 and Owens had a Blocked Punt Return). The offense had 11 first downs, 5 passing, and had 148 total yards. This year they had 20 first downs, 10 passing, and had 317 total yards against a better defense. Williams' performance has also improved: 2024: 14-29, 93 yards, 48.3%, 0 TD, 0 INT, 3.2 Y/A, 2 sacks, 55.7 QB Rating, 22.5 QBR, 5-15 rushing. 2025: 21-35, 210 yards, 60.0%, 1 TD, 0 INT, 6.0 Y/A, 2 sacks, 86.6 QB Rating, 63.8 QBR, 6-58 rushing, 1 TD.
