I found this guy on Twitter who has compiled some data on college and combine numbers compared to NFL success. Very interesting. https://haydenwinks.com/project-tag/draft-research/ The QB data is here: https://www.rotoworld.com/article/numbers/nfl-draft-analytics-qb The top 5 stats that correlated to NFL numbers were College Passing TD's to NFL TD's and Yds/g; College Passing Yards to TD/g and QB Rating, and College Yds/g to NFL TD/g. Now I know there are top college guys that don't do anything in the NFL, but the odds are that the top QB's will be from the top group of players with high passing yards and passing TD's in college. The odds of them having l…

A pretty decent breakdown for QB options. I don't think Carr is #1. Dalton and Keenum make sense. If you are going to go with Rosen, then you might as well consider Driskel or McCarron. If you are going to go with a vet option like Rivers, then why not someone like Matt Moore on the cheap? He played well in KC filling in for Mahomes. Knows the system. Brady is silly, and Alex Smith will never play football again.

One year, $7M, $5.5M guaranteed. Too rich for us.

This has fueled speculation that the Bears are sniffing around Carr. Thoughts?

Here is the current list of top 100 FA's for 2020 from The Athletic. I excluded the top 30 due to the expected salaries and/or projected tags. This is the remaining list. If you could pick 4 guys off this list to target, who would they be? After reading some articles about FA TE failures, I am avoiding TE in FA. I selected Fuller's brother at CB, Vonn Bell to play SS, Vaitai to replace Leno, and Glasgow at G. All are young enough to play out a full contract. I also re-signed Kwit (not counting that as a target). Then in the draft, the team can address TE, Edge, speed at WR, and depth. Top 1-30 Excluded: 31. Chris Harris Jr., CB, Broncos (31) 32. D.J. Humphr…

Huge signing (according to Pace), this obviously addresses the need at TE. I don't expect another TE to be signed.

Looking at the Bears’ cap situation, I think we have a lot of options for cuts and trades. At this moment we have an estimated $13 Million in cap room. -------------------------------- LEONARD FLOYD -------------------------------- Floyd is due $13,222,000 this year with no dead cap. If you cut or trade him, you instantly gain $13 Mil in cap room, which can sign two or three quality free agents. There is no way Floyd plays under this contract for us in 2020. You can pretty much consider him cut and add $13Mil to your cap. Then you can think about what you WOULD pay him as a free agent. Aaron Lynch got $1.5 Million to play backup to Floyd. Floyd …

Not that this is something new, but it is interesting to see how the media reacts to two different losses this week. KC and CHI. So we lose to OAK in London with our backup QB and several other injuries to the same team that beat the Colts in Indy the week before. Those same Colts just beat the Chiefs in KC. So you would think, things like Power Rankings would reflect a similar outcome for the Bears and Chiefs. We both lost to middle of the road teams (both now 3-2), yet one did at home and one did at a neutral site. At worst, we should fall fairly even in power rankings, which is an easy way to judge how others see the teams. However, that is not the case, chec…

I've been listening to Kyle all morning. He's going to be in for 2 more days. Interesting things he said: Bobby Massie is a stalwart right tackle when healthy, Daniels is a pro bowl talent at guard, Whitehair is the true center and vocal leader of the OL and that Leno is like a coach on the field. On Hiestand, he and Nagy never clicked and that Juan Castillo is a perfect fit for Nagy, because he has his trust.

Open forum for projecting fixes for whatever we need to fix. TEs: under control Burton Shaheen Braunnecker Horsted Saubert Holtz Raymond. Since the position was a disaster this year but have cap restrictions. I see Pace redoing the room. I think Burton ( if healthy) is listed #1 , Braunnecker gets cut, Shaheen comes back but will get cut before the regular season. Holtz and Horsted showed enough to be 3 and 4. The big Question is can Raymond play. Idk. In the draft there is no clear star but 8 prospects that might be good. In GBND report ( I like evaluation of players) Kmet/ ND is the only one that is e…

I am going to post some info in here to discuss the QB situation. First I was looking back at some past League MVPs, and one season popped out at me. Take a look at this recent league MVP and two similar Pro Bowl QBs from different years: League MVP: 1. 67.0 QBR, 59.8% Comp, 239 Y/G, 7.8 Y/A, 39.8 Rushing Yards/G Pro Bowlers: 2. 65.0 QBR, 62.6% Comp, 252 Y/G, 8.1 Y/A, 56.3 Rushing Yards/G 3. 70.8 QBR, 66.6% Comp, 230 Y/G, 7.3 Y/A, 30.1 Rushing Yards/G #3 was Trubisky in 2018, and he had a better overall QBR than Cam Newton's 2015 MVP season and Michael Vick's 2010 with the Eagles. They were the closest comps in multiple statistical categories and a…

I watched a few games on Game Pass and besides Floyd looking overmatched on every play, Mack didn't seem to have the same explosion like he did last year. He was a Tazmanian Devil in 2018, but in 2019, it looked like he lost a step and wasn't as powerful. I know the defense for his regression was these double and triple teams. However, even when he had one on one matchups, even against a rookie, he didn't really do anything special. My fear with some of these guys is once they get a payday, they cruise. It really looks that way with guys like Leno, Massie, and Mack. Fuller seems like the only one who has consistently played to his contract, except for the fact that h…

After both retired, Tunney asked Butkus about his zest for violence. " I always called him Richard. I asked him, ‘Richard, did you ever intentionally try to hurt somebody?’ “He said, ‘Nah, not unless it was in a game or something.’” From a story https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2019/12/12/21005035/fumble-pile-violence-nfl-stories Why I love watching football. Always viewed it as contact ballet. It's the grace of a WR or a running back. An OF line or DF player on one hand wanting to pile drive the other yet be so graceful as to just make them pound air. Such a violent yet graceful game. And then you add the chess like strategy.

It appears Jordan will be available soon as a FA. The question is should the Bears consider returning him? What type of blocking will Chicago deploy under Castillo? Are they wanting to go more power blocking, zone blocking or concentrate more on pass blocking? I think someone hypothesized that the reason Hiestand lost his job was because he wanted to do more power blocking and Nagy did not. (My guess is Nagy needed a scape goat and Hiestand was one of a few options). Anyhow, if in fact the Bears goal is to focus more on a combination of pass and zone blocking then Howard may still be an option. Even with a couple of fixes along the oline for next year I don’t see t…

Defense is valuable in a big game. Nagy O works if you run the ball. We need a speed WR We need a quality TE We need a solid oline. To keep the defense good we need another pass rusher. Healthy Hicks matters. I think filling the CB and SS spot will be relatively cheap. Pass rusher will not be. We have a lo to do.

So we can finally start looking hard at the offseason. 1. February 24th - March 2nd - NFL Combine: we should have a good idea how the players will be slotted after the combine and some pro days. Mock drafts on fire. 2. March 16th - Legal tampering period: We will see a flurry of activity starting around this date as players start locking in deals with teams, will the Bears sign a QB? Is Mike Glennon available? 3. March 18th - The official first day of the league year and the official Start to Free Agency. All the official announcements start on the first wave of free agent signings; teams have to exercise options by 4pm. 4. March 29th - April 1st - Ann…

I think, as a Bears fan, and feeling slightly petty about things...I want both teams to lose. A - SF, while they have Robbie (and that's about the only reason I don't mind them winning), they are where we want to be. The story of how Lynch fleeced us, how we let Mostert go, etc...will be played over and over again. I kind of don't want to hear it. B - KC, yup...we will forever hear the Bears took Tru over Mahomes. That dead horse will be flogged ad nausea. Then, Tyreek Hill having domestic problems...kind of hard to root for the guy. That said, Reid seems like a likable chap, and I don't mind him finally getting one, thus validating Nagy? And Mahomes p…
