Just for the hell of it...we're compiling a list of the top 50 greatest players to ever play sports in Chicago. I shouldn't really say "we're" as I'm only a submission, but knightni is doing all the rankings and all the work. Everyone submits a top 20. There is no criteria on what makes them the greatest....It's your own preference...be it world renowned, most popular, most athletic, most dominant...or whatever. As long as they're great players. Beasly or Love?

There is no doubt Favre talked to coach Mike McCarthy about coming back two weeks ago, despite Favre's claims to the contrary. It's also clear through Favre's family and this report that Thompson doesn't want Favre back. The Gazette says Favre would have "un-retired" as early as May if Thompson had asked him back, but that didn't happen. Thompson reportedly isn't returning Favre's agents calls. This is all a little childish on both sides, but Favre can force Thompson's hand by being definitive about his plans. It's debatable whether he'll be willing to do so.

Patriots beat writer Mike Reiss wonders if Mike Vrabel's trade could be part of a larger deal including Matt Cassel. Now that would be a doozy. Reiss is one of the most well-respected beat writers in the country, and is usually very cautious to publish anything resembling speculation. He rightly points out that we have no idea what the compensation in the Vrabel trade is.

Is anyone else getting tired of the Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant comparisons? I could put up a ton of stats and anecdotal evidence that shows there is really no comparison, but it sure does seem to be getting more and more buzz as the years go on. Kobe's great, but he's nowhere near MJ.

There has been a lot of talk for years about crooked refs, and fixed games in the NBA. I have believed the hype for quite some time, especially considering I hate some of the teams that have won. I have varied thoughts on this, but basically I see Donaghey like Canseco. Both were called cheats. Both were proven cheats. Both said that others were involved. Both were dismissed as liars. Both were proven true. The only difference I see right now is that Canseco has much more proof than Donaghey, who only has the words of Van Gundy (who is now trying to deny those words) to back him up. Free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh reiterated via text message to the Cincinnati Enquirer that he expects to sign with a team by tonight. Housh, who's still in Minnesota and presumably negotiating a contract, is targeting "Sunday evening" to announce his new home. The Bengals have an offer on the table. Houshmandzadeh made his first visit to Seattle and could still meet with Tampa or Philadelphia early this week if he stays unsigned.

The son of legendary NFL rusher Walter Payton signed with the Toronto Argonauts on Sunday and participated with his new teammates in the first of two scheduled workouts as CFL teams officially opened training camp. Payton, 28, was the Montreal Alouettes' rushing leader in 2007 with 852 yards over 13 games while scoring eight touchdowns. Michael Vick is reportedly washing pots and pans for 12 cents an hour and playing football in prison. "Apparently, there was a prison football team and he played quarterback for both sides," Falcons owner Arthur Blank said. Blank keeps in touch with his former franchise player via the mail. Vick's projected date of release is July 20, 2009.
