I think it's option 3...

Beleive you me, I'm the first to go harsh on ownership and the coaches... But, I'm trying to put some things in perspective. 1. Our owners are who they are. Sorry folks. It ain't going to change. Probably not even after Virgie passes. So, let's hope that George is better than Mikey. 2. Given that, Virgie is infatuated with Smith. To what exact degree, no one is sure. Enough so, that they had to come out and say Smith is staying and the next GM should have a similar philosophy. But, let's look into that further. All Smith wants is to run his D and not have the O make his life on D difficult. Many of us, including myself, hate his D. But thankfully we have some great players that make it work often. So, the next GM can pretty much damn well do what he wants on O. He's got Cutty, Forte, a couple of OL and a fair TE. Add away Mr. GM...it's all on you. And throw Smith a bone on D. Byt making the O better, the D will be better. 3. Seriously...I'm pretty confident in saying we'd all love Ted and Smith fired and real football men put in. But, it looks like that won't happen. But, I'll take getting rid of Angelo and Martz as addition by subtraction. I'm basically in agreement with you. I'm just trying to see some positives among not enough positives...
-
Not quite. one would hope by experience and osmosis alone, that Ted can come up with better than Angelo. There's obviously no guarantee of that, but we can hope. And if not, then yeah...we hope for dumb luck. I've already said that in a different post. Especially regarding Smith. I hope there's something to the Jeff Fisher rumor in Chicago....For now, we can all hope for just about anything as long as the Gm job is open and good candidates are still out there. I just hope the bears don't futz around... But, we know how that'll pan out too don't we?

No. I'm describing a CFO. That's really what Teddy is. Again, don't get me wrong, I wish our set-up were more football oriented. But it's not. So my hope if the Ted just handles the money matters and lucks into hiring a good GM. If I'm jobless and want a crack at a big city job with a huge fanbase...this job is tempting. You win, you are a legend. So, even with the issues, there are still good reasons to take the job. Much may simply depend on how much the salary is... I'm trying to be pragmatic. Believe you me, I could rant for hours how the McCaskey's, Ted and Smith suck beyond belief... But I'm trying to take a realistic optimistic approach and hope byt lucking into a good GM, a lot of ills can be reversed.

This is a tease of epic proportions! Darn you Jensen! This will never happen, but if only! If only! But there is some truth to it...there's nothing that says Smith is safe other than the lying mouths of the Bears management who have lied before...
-
Seriously, do you think Smith will be gone? It's the Fontes curse... We will be in the playoffs next season. Smith will get credit for that, and get signed for another 2 years. We then miss playoffs for 2 years. Then in his lame duck season again, we make the playoffs. Rinse, repeat. Until Virgie can accept that Smith will never take us to the peak, this will be our lot in life.

i honestly don't feel anyone here is remotely giddy that Teddy is running the show. But, it's who we have. We just need to hope that the next GM can fight the power...
-
I meant in terms of if all Teddy does is simply be responsible for profits going to the McCaskeys, then so be it. As long as his GM has appropriate football accumen, it's fine to leave Teddy there. It's the Bears, so stupidity comes with the dinner. Virgie loves her some Lovie. So, she probably wants to keep him. So instead of just ousting the guy, and having nothing, they keep him and want a GM to be able to see that Smith has value. It will turn some GM's off for sure. Like in any job, there are elements you either choose to deal with for your salary or you don't accept the job. It may scare away some good candidates, but it might not. I won't argue nimrod own this team and run it below acceptable. However, it's like complaining that the sun is hot. There's really nothing you can do about it. We can hope that there is a candidate out there that can see through the McCaskeys crapola and run the team the way he thinks it should be run. All he has to do is eat Smith as a HC for one or 2 years. On a completely side note, if they want to go all in on Smith...why not just make him the GM? Sink or swim... All or nothing Smith. If he fails, then boot him and start fresh.

There's a ton of skepticism going on, and I'm also a bit worried. However, there are some positives besides the spin the bears are putting on it... 1. Reporting to Teddy might be a blessing. Any GM worthwhile will see Teddy as a piss ant and do what he wants to do. It'll be like virtually having no boss. So, for a strong and smart GM, it could prove a blessing. 2. Stuck with Smith. Well, assuming it's truly locked...then after one season, he could be ousted potentially. Also, what if, Smith actually excels? What is a barrage of new talent makes all the difference? Smith isn't the worst coach. He's certainly not the best. But he might be good enough. Maybe the new GM helps him. If not, then he could be gone. Also, there is the possibility that if the bears are serious about getting a big boy GM, regardless of the rhetoric they publicly put up...maybe Smith isn't as safe as we fear. 3. Team. The team has a good chunk of talent starting. They need OL help, WR help, DL help, and secondary help. One player for each of those spots that's even just decent will help the team tremendously. Then, star adding depth. This team could be dangerous with just a few key additions. Long term, they need more, but for a 2 year window, minor tweakings could provide some seriously positive results. There are too many negatives to list...but think who we're competing against...The Raiders, The Rams, The Colts and the Dolphins. Are any of those jobs really that much better? Only the Rams has the possibility of a complete overhaul. So, at worst, we're #2...

If the only thing Ted does is simply financial, then I think it might be fine... The next GM would hopefully have all the power to whatever he wants barring giving Smith one year.

Fans hate losing more. If the offensive mind won, we'd be right behind it... It's not that we had offensive minds, it's that those minds didn't work for the talent (or lack thereof) we had in hand. I simply want a coaching staff that know what they have, and makes the most of it. Adaptability is the key.
