  1. Which phantom GM is starting these rumors? It reeks of fan Madden-esque speculation.
  2. Exactly! We have to take what we can get!
  3. I don't know for sure the reasons, but one common thread is Drake.
  4. No apology needed! That loss was the closest thing to a Bears victory! F the Pack!
  5. I have no problem with that if it's done on the cheap. Roy W should be jetisoned, and TO taking over his roster spot is fine by me. However, but no means does that mea we should be done in FA for a WR. I still want the like of a V-Jack. If we had a WR corps of: V-Jack TO Bennett Rookie WR in rounds 1-3 Hester ...that would I think be just about perfect. But to me, its relaly more about getting the V-Jack type of guy and high round prospect. TO would simply be free dessert with the meal...
  6. Agreed. We simply have far too many holes to give up that much. The assumption should be that whoever we get for GM, will do a decent enough job. I don't mind doing some trading up...but not giving away the farm. Draftees are no guarantee, so to give up the farm for one is just a little too foolish.
  7. Gronk looks like a true talent that would thrive anywhere there was a decent QB. hernandez looks solid, but not as amazing as Gronk.
  8. I hear ya... Largent is seriously one of the most under-rated WR's of all time. The man was amazing.
  9. At least he's in the AFC at minimum. I hope he's brilliant. Therefore damaging the Packers by losing him.
  10. Ross is the guy I'd like to see of that lot as well.
  11. It all depends on the selling price... There's a ton of untapped revenue in the team from what I've read in Forbes and other areas. Despite the smaller stadium...
  12. But wasn't Perry Fewell interviewed and went elsewhere? Maybe that was just a thought... Seriously, maybe the bears are doing just that again...waiting it out, looking like they're doing something when they all know damn well it's Ruskell... Why have we not interviewed a single candidate? If I'm hiring for a position, I move fast and interview who I can, when I can. Unless of course, I already have my guy...
  13. According to Pompei in the Trib, the Bears has not interviewed a single candidate yet...
  14. It is what it is. We're squandered that D for virtually a decade. So, another year of wasting it really isn't all that shocking. I just think that candidates don't really want the job at the moment. They can see what's going on as easily as all of us. For instance, DeCosta can cruise in BAL for a little longer, wait for Teddy and Smith to get their walking papers, then attempt it. I'm sure other candidate are thinking similarly. I'm sure there's a hungry enough guy out there that would take it. But, he may not be the best. It does make sense for Ruskell to get the gig. For the last 4 Bears hires, that's been the team's MO for the most part. Rivera out, Babich promoted from within. Babich demoted, Marinelli promoted from within. Turner fired, Martz hired as a good buddy...this is the only one that doesn't quite follow the pattern. Martz fired, Tice hired from within. Everything points to Ruskell getting the gig. Regarding George and Wertz, they are different people. Talk is cheap. The first think Georgie Boy did in his presser was to distance himself. That spoke volumes. Interesting about if Virgie passes, the McCaskey boys may have to sell. Sadly, that may be the franchise's only hope for truly realizing its full potential. It's sad, because everything I've read about the old lady is that she is a class act.
  15. Interesting analysis. While some of the elements are arguable, most of what you say rings true. Proving Drake isn't bad is like proving a negative. You almost can't do it. But, is he really good? There's no evidence to suggest so. So why not jetison him and find someone that has proven results? Given our history, especially as you say, under Smith, is seems highly improbable that Drake is an amazing WR coach that has simply has little to work with. It's probably more like Drake is a so-so WR coach that has had little to work with.
  16. Bowe will probably tagged at minimum. I still think we play and play hard to get V-Jack or similar... If we can't nab him, then one can consider trading. But, money will be spent no matter what... The bears need to open the coffers like they did for Peppers to some degree. If there were no WR's to obtain in FA, then trading a #1 to get Marshall is fine, but there will be WR's in FA. Unlike this past year. Gotcha...
  17. No. He's great and all, but we can get a top tier WR in FA not named Calvin. We simply have far too many needs to Ricky Williams it... Moving up in the draft makes some sense depending on everything though....
  18. You are 100% correct. Drake needs to go...
  19. I think that seems to be the overwhelming sentiment...
  20. Then I still think you go for V-Jack or Bowe. With any big name WR, we're going to have to pay a lot of money. But if you get a FA, then you don't lose draft picks that we desperately need...
  21. Sorry CrackerDog, but just about any GM could have pulled off Peppers, and a vast majority could have pulled off Cutler. We gave up a lot of loot for one, and a lot of picks for the other. Smith was actually a selling point for peppers, so in theory, any GM that was willing to spend could have gotten him for Smith I think. Also, given that Jay expressed interest in Chicago, any decent GM could have made it work...and in fact, maybe could have done it for cheaper... Let's not forget the high price we paid for the young man that passed away from Tampa. While there's really no way we could have seen the eventual passing, a vast majority of folks believe we gave up WAY to high of a pick for him. The McCaskey's seem to trust anyone they hire. So if it were someone other than Angelo, they probably would have trusted him too. And I bet that it was Smith clammoring for help on the DLine and for a better QB that the McCaskey's really listened to! Yes, in the grand scheme, I'm happy to give JA credit for those pick ups. He made them happen. But to say another GM couldn't have done it I think is stretching it...
  22. I just don't want to on principle. He was had for 2 2nd's. he hasn't gotten better. So, I'd offer slightly lower...maybe just one second. But, if we can get a Bowe or V-Jack, w/o losing a pick, that would be preferable to me.
  23. The opposite of Trump... YOU'RE HIRED!
