Be interesting to see his approach, is a trade down guy, stand pat guy, or willing to trade up to grab a gem? We are accustomed to JA in his trading down for more and more picks, rolling the dice on a player with a "history" to be concerned about. Does Emery shy away from any "flags"? Could be a very interesting draft and free agency.

With a nickname of "Satan" he sounds like just the right man for the job

You know, if Tice is as successful as an OC as we hope he will be, and the Bears make some noise next year, Tice will probably be one and out as OC as he will land a HC job somewhere in the following year. Hopefully he teaches the QB/passing game coach we are bringing in really well as he may be the next OC after Tice. Let's hope whoever it is has a good head on his shoulders. The person hired for this position, IMO, is going to be important for the future of the Bears if my intuition is correct.

I saw a lot of returns from the end zone that resulted in us starting inside our own 20, kick offs which we should not have taken out of the EZ. I think, or guess actually, that if we had been smarter as to taking a knee in the EZ when it was evident instead of rolling the dice trying to break one, then our average LOS would be somewhat better.

Posters are concerned because of the final two candidates for our GM spot have no experience as GM, yet Ruskell, who has 5 years experience as GM and a good record to fall back on is considered to be a "no way in hell do I want this guy" option. I am a bit lost here. Do they have to have previous experience as GM to be a good option? Every GM who has run a draft started out with zero experience. As balta mentioned, if a big name GM were available with experience, would he have been fired and why? I see nothing wrong with either of the two remaining candidates.

Please explain, Please, Pretty Please. Are you telling me all of the other WRs we have will be gone? I doubt it.

Sorry, messed up when trying to delete a spammers reply. Can we start over, LOL.

I am not saying for one minute that Ruskell would be my 1st choice for GM, but just because he was brought in by Angelo and many on the forum wanted him "gone" that does not mean this guy is a total waste of consideration. He actually has a pretty damn good track record, much better than Angelo before he was given his maiden chance at a GM position. Ruskell Bio from Chicago Bears Website Not bad at all, and continuity is always good, especially if, as many of you say, Smith will only last 1 more year (I disagree) Let's put it this way, if you are right and Smith will only last one more year, the replacements many of us would love to have come in would want combined HC/GM duties and by hiring Ruskell it would be no problem dumping him and giving someone, a high profile HC/GM, a contract. If, on the other hand, you hired a high profile GM to a big contract and next year we wanted to replace Lovie, many of the best HC candidates with experience would not be hired for "financial" reasons because of big $$ due the GM hired. Hiring Ruskell would allow us the opportunity of hiring a big name HC/GM if warranted.

I am somewhat surprised at the interviews of GM candidates from teams in the playoffs, I thought it was taboo to interview any front office members or coaches of a team in the playoffs until their season finished. I am happy to see I was wrong or otherwise we would need to wait to long to interview some I like.

The last time we were in need of a WR and drafted one in the 1st round I was excited when a player who was suppose to go in the top 10 fell all the way down to us, BUT, it turned out David Terrell was garbage. I want a vet WR with proven abilities, a solid #1, and a second vet WR or high draft pick, BUT to be honest, I would prefer a BLUE CHIP left tackle in the first, if there is a killer option left at #19. Replace Webb with a top prospect LT, you have Williams at LG who was looking pretty good before injured, Lance Lewis at RG who did great there before being forced out of position due to injuries, and Carimi back at RT. Garza is getting a bit long in the tooth and we will need to groom a replacement for him but if we did what I said above, we would have a very young OL with great potential for years. It all starts up front. If we want to protect Cutler and give Forte room to run, we need to get Webb out of the starter position and use him as a backup.

So we not only blame JA for players not performing up to their abilities on the field but we also blame him for their off-field problems? I guess he was to blame for the issues between Urlacher and his wife. He was probably the driver of Briggs' car when he had the accident on the express way. Hell, I bet he was behind the Cedric Benson issues as well. Maybe he supplied fire arms to Tank Johnson. To answer your question, NO! I am sure the Bears run background checks on every player they bring in but you cannot expect them to find out everything a player is involved with. How were the Bears to know that Hurd was spelled with a T and not an H?

We WILL avoid name calling and keep this CIVIL or else we will have no choice but to delete posts &/or ban offending parties. There is no need to resort to that type of behavior. We can discuss differences of opinion and still show respect to each other. We are all frustrated with what has happened, especially the last 3 weeks, but lets remember that everyone has a right to their opinion and that there is no reason to insult someone just because they disagree with your opinion or does not understand your perspective. I have had complaints sent to me via admin notification, please adhere to the rules of the forums. Disagree if you like, argue if you like, but show respect for each other, please.

It looks to me that we have lost Cutler for the entire remainder of the season. Hold out optimism is you like, I am a heavy kool-aid drinker myself, but here is a quote that makes me believe this:

For a player to miss this many games do to a "chest injury" I have to ask, what the he** was the injury? Normally when I hear of a chest injury I think of a bruise or a cracked rib. Neither would keep a guy out this long. So why are we not being given any details on just what this injury is?
-
It will be a chess match, but all games are. It happens every year, players go to a new team and play their old team. There is always speculation that ti will give an advantage to the team with the "insider info" available. How often has that come to be reality? I have never seen it written or said that it became an advantage after the game was played.

Man Charged With Rape At Home Of Bears’ Meriweather
Pixote replied to balta1701-A's topic in Bearstalk
First, did the guy actually rape the woman? Second, did Meriweather know that the assault, if it was rape, was going on, could he have stopped it from happening? Third, was this friend of his known for this type of behavior in the past, should he have known better to even associate with him? It is hard to be judgmental of Meriweather without knowing all of the facts. I know he has had issues in the past but this may be a non-issue. -
Why in the world, unless we are talking salary cap, would we let Harris go when there is some real dead wood behind him on the depth chart?
-
I obviously am not sure about this, just speculation, but if a young 27 year old first round draft pick 2 time pro bowler Offensive Lineman had been cut and available, I am guessing JA would have been sending a limo to pick the guy up with a glimmer in his eye. Unfortunately, that scenerio just does not happen, teams for good do not cut quality OL very often.
-
I wonder how long it will take for him to be a starter? I doubt he has ever played a cover 2 defense, do you think it will take long for him to be a starter beside Harris?
-
27 more to go, that is a lot of players exiting Halas Hall in just a few days.
-
I just read this on the Bears Site: (In addition to Gholston being cut)
-
I think the biggest issue is that the park district is involved, period. It should be a field owned by the Bears and controlled by the Bears and no outside events should be allowed just before the season starts and during the season. Until that happens and the city has their talons in the field operations it will remain a mess.
-
You may be right, he may get cut and put on the PS, but I seriously doubt he will remain there long. Many teams were trying to get him after the lock out. He has nothing but impress in camp. If he cannot make our roster, someone will take him off our hands when he lands on the PS, I do not think he will be there long.
