i think Andy Reid is a pretty demanding coach. Im not saying a guy has to yell. sometimes they have that style, but either way they have to be able to motivate guys. To interact with a player in such a way that the payer is better because of it. it cant just be being relaxed. There has to be some intensity to it somewhere in some way. And for a guy who came to town selling HITS philosophy, it seems like a mismatch. As for putting players in position to win, we've seen the situational errors, and the too safe. we saw him literally lose three games he statistically should have won. Thats not just being neutral, it's actually putting your players in a worse position to win. But the decision has been made, and I like the coaches around him. So that shouldnt be the end of the world, if they can correct him when he needs it. But its a lost opportunity in my view to get someone who is a positive. As long as we take a QB that turns out to be excellent, we will be OK. That's really what matters most. I sure hope we get that right. If we do, we are on the precipice of a new unknown era for Bears football, and that will be extremely exciting. And if not, then we go back to where weve been for the past 35+ years. I have hope! If we draft the right guy, I have real hope!

exactly. it's so fighty, and so much more concerned with being right than whats best for the team. and the techniques are so intellectually dishonest, slippoing the definitions of a word to try to fake a win. He knows the difference between those two uses of the word hero. he's just playing some game on here, I got really tired of it.

I think we have guys on the roster with definite talent. I think DJ Moore is a stud. In fact, I can imagine that Moore doesnt need a coach who yells at him, or is insistent on reaching deeper. But most of them do. Very few players have the football IQ that Moore has. Moore sees the entire field and is a master of spacing. He is like an offensive sided Mike Brown. He knows exactly where everyone is going to be, and how to get to the right spot. Sweat is a monster too. Kmet is developing nicely. i think our LBs are extremely talented, but need more coaching. I think Wright is gonna eat the league this year. I like our running back situation. Our corners are all players, and Brisker is great too. if Jenkins stays healthy, hes a stud too. I think Davis has it in him to play well. But theres a player that seems like he needs motivating. So Im not mad at most of the roster. And Im not mad at the position coaches. The offensive coaches look promising too. A lot of what's been built is solid. But I still dont trust Eberflus. Hopefully, all the good coaches around him will keep him from getting too safe or too weird in situations. But could you imagine Andy Reid being described as "laid back" as the first thing that comes to mind? or Belichick, or Shanahan, or any of the coaches in the playoffs this year? It's football, and it shouldnt be this big mystery. We know what winners look and sound like.

Im just saying DJ keeps talking up the least disciplined players on the squad. The ones with raw physical ability who arent playing smart. Its not a secret meaning, it's just an honest take of what he thinks. And I think this is the culture we are building.

You run your team by giving guys lots of extra chances and hugs and being just golly gee guys, lets try better next year. Ya never know, it could work. were not all experts, its just your opinion blah blah blah I'll run mine with accountability and discipline, as a meritocracy, and we'll see who wins. This is football. If the first thing your players think about you - FIRST THING - is "laid back" then you suck as a coach. He could have said "strategist" or "givers great pointers" or anything. laid back. sheesh.

Velus is stupid. He won't ever get too far because he isnt smart. I saw a clip of him this last offseason, and the coach was telling him that a right footed punter, the ball drifts right, and a left footed punter the ball drifts left, and he said out loud "Ok right goes right, left goes left" And it's not like it's his rookie year. But he's still working on memorizing right means right left means left. If DJ says that Velus is the best other receiver on the team, maybe he is talking up his friends, not because of their abilities, but because they are his buddies. And maybe that's why he is talking up Fields too. And he said today the first words that come to mind about Eberflus are "laid back" Im really starting to question this football culture.

Oh I'm not defending them! When we start winning they will overrate us too. They're just a big dumb echo chamber, churning out common wisdom from 2 months ago.

I guess we are #24 right now, without having made our picks, and without seeing if the picks we make work out or bust. I'm sure that if we start winning games our ranking will improve. I used to think that the media didn't like the Bears, but now i think they just follow whoever is winning, and their narratives are about 2 months behind reality.

It depends on what you think of the QBs. If you can get one of those multiple superbowl winning hall of famer types, theyre worth more than 5 first rounders. If you dont think any of them are the guy, or you miss and take a bust, then yes, but then again you can pick busts with all the draft picks you acquire too. But for real, if you dont have one of those "generational" QBs, then youre just playing exhibition football and wont really have any shot at winning superbowls. they are worth pretty much any price. But again, it depends on what you think of the prospects.

we need rotational DEs too. I dont think we will sign a $20Million+ DE and draft one in the first round for sure youre right about that. but we might sign an $8Mil DE and take one at #9? Maybe a Jadeveon Clowney type - in case the draft turns, and you cant get that DE at #9. And this goes for every position of need. You fill holes going into the draft, and then you better a couple positions with high picks, and the mid level free agents fight for playing time with the rookies, one starts, and one is rotational. but yeah, if you sign clear starters to real money, then you probably dont draft that position high too.

This all makes sense. I feel the same way. It all hinges on player evaluations. There will be more pre draft film to see on YouTube soon so we can all get a peek at these guys. It does feel like a particularly deep class, but each player has abilities and questions too, so this is potentially a tough one. Unless our scouts think Williams is a god, with a good head, then it's easy.

I was looking at the super bowl quarterbacks over the last 25 years and it really started to jump out at me. During the last 25 years, the superbowl has been won at least twice in that time by 5 QBs; Tom Brady (7) Patrick Mahomes (3) Peyton Manning (2) Ben Roesthlisberger (2) Eli Manning (2) Together they account for 16 of the 25 superbowl victories. In other words, they own 2/3 of all the Lombardi trophies awarded during that span. Additionally, they appeared as the losing QB in 7 more superbowls, and in 3 of those, they were beaten by one of the other guys on this list. 18 other QBs not on this list got their teams to the superbowl, but couldnt get past one of these five giants and lost. only 4 times during the past 25 years did a quarterback NOT on the list manage to beat a QB on the list in the SB. They are: Aaron Rodgers (beat Roesthlisberger) Drew Brees (beat Peyton Manning) Nick Foles (beat Tom Brady) Russell Wilson (beat Peyton Manning) The other 5 SB winning QBs did not have to face one of the five guys on the list to get their win. They are: Stafford, Flacco, Johnson, Dilfer, Warner I think to have a reliable chance of winning superbowls, you need a top QB. There's a lot of chaos, and they don't make the super bowl every year. And sometimes they even lose. But 2 out of 3 times, the winner of the superbowl ended up being a QB who would win more than once, and get to the superbowl even more often. In fact, of 50 superbowl starting QB slots, these five accounted for 23 of them, which is basically half. It sure looks like most of the league is exhibition football, and only a handful of QBs are playing for the actual trophy. Even more so when you realize that 3 guys on the list only won twice. Mahomes and Brady prove the rule even within the list. Elite of elite. And of the guys who disprove the rule? the seven who won that werent on the list: Aaron Rodgers is a sure fire HOFer Drew Brees is a sure fire HOFer Kurt Warner already is a HOFer, and went to three superbowls. So 1/3 of the non list guys that won are studs too. All that's left is Dilfer, Johnson, Flacco, Stafford, Foles and Wilson as examples of non stud QBs with teams built around them, but only Foles and Wilson beat a guy on the list of five in the superbowl. So 2 out of 25 times (8%) a team built around a non stud QB (not one of the five, or a sure HOFer) manages to win in the superbowl against a stud QB. And this doesnt measure all the teams that had good teams built around lesser QBs that never even made the superbowl. You gotta add that in to the odds of success with that approach. If youve got a stud QB, youre in the superbowl game, if you dont, you're not in the same league.

truth. both of those teams are a lot better than us. Both played really tough defense. But only the one with the generational QB won. We need a lot of things, but without that top QB, none of the rest of it matters.

If the Chiefs had been dow two touchdowns, then that's what Mahomes would have scored at the end of the game. Winners win. Michael Jordans shooting percentage goes UP for clutch shots. He's better when it counts than he is regularly. I remember when Eli Manning beat Tom Brady in the game with the helmet catch. The Giants were leading most of the game, and then Brady engineered a last minute drive to take the lead with an injured leg. He did that because he is a winner. And it turns out Eli is a winner too because he engineered and impossible last minute drive to come back. KC may have been gifted one score, but the fumble near the goal line took another one away from them. In the end, a huge percentage of super bowls are won by a handful of QBs. It's not a statistical accident. If you dont have one of those guys, you dont win. And if you do, youre always in it. The NFL is dominated by a small group of QBs. We need one of those!

The dominant QB captains two long end of game drives to win the super bowl. The team with players built around a lower pick QB, who turns out to be an excellent best possible case QB, and the team with a smothering defense, and excellent playcalling on both sides of the ball is unable to overcome the magic of a true winning QB. Even though the Chiefs were quiet early, and turned the ball over. Even though everything was going the 49ers way. A Brady Mahomes type wins it again. If you dont have one of those kind of guys at QB, youre not going all the way.
