Cutting or trading Dexter gets you $1.6M in cap space. But like you say, this is his last year. If you can trade him and get something, great. But unless there is a defensive line coach pounding on the table for another year to unlock Dexter, I think you might even just let him go for the $1.6M, especially if you're restocking that room like I'll bet we are. All in all, I think theres gonna be a lot of changes on the defense. Possibly three new starters on the DL, at least one new LB, and at least one new S. Thats half the Defense, and it could be more. Another CB maybe, another LB, who knows. If you cut Sweat you gain $6.9M of cap space. If you trade him, it's $17M. Doubt anyone wants to pay him $17M, but I'm just putting it out there, even just cutting him, in case we do sign a premiere Edge rusher. I mean, i think we will keep him, but I'm just putting the cap numbers out there.

I like all of this. I wonder about Turner. hes going to be an interesting guy in the mix. I wonder if the coaches can really depend on him enough that it would affect their draft plans. I kind of doubt it. I think youre right they could get a free agent DT, and/or double up on the position in the draft, and then throw Turner and Dexter in there too. Youd find a rotation in there somewhere for sure. I wish we could trade Grady Jarrett too, but like Dayo, it costs $2M more to cut him before June 1st. If you cut him after June 1st, you gain $2M, but too late. But if we could find a trade partner, wed gain $11M of cap space, but who wants to pay that guy $11M this year?
-
I'd cut him on production too, but cap wise there is an issue. If you cut him before June 1st, you actually lose $1.5M of cap space. It's cheaper to keep him and just not dress him. If you cut him after June 1st, you get $16M in cap room, which is awesome, but you cant have that money during free agency and the draft, so it doesn't help with free agent signings. We might have to do this anyway. Maybe we can use that money to get back a void year on someone after June 1st, but I dunno if you can do that twice in the same off season to the same player? If we could TRADE him though, then we'd open up $11.5M in space. But someone would have to want to pay him that $11.5M somewhere else, and I dunno if anyone does. So whatever we do with him, we can't use the cap space it would bring when we need it, unless we find a trade partner. Maybe a player swap where we take on another player that needs a change of scenery and also brings a $12M cap number, so like a player swap? It wouldnt give cap relief, but it would change Dayp into a different toad, maybe one our coaches think they can rehabilitate?

So Swift is definitely replaceable, he is not the best back possible, but replacing him would require some resources, and Swift is doing a pretty good job for us. He surely had a much better season that i thought was possible during the preseason. I feel like Bienemy unlocked him in ways I hadnt seen before. So I expect we will keep him this year. Maybe we will go for a free agent, but with the defensive overhaul looming, I expect Swift is here for at least this coming year.

I saw a cap show on TTNL with "Cars" their cap guy, and he explained how they could pretty easily open up $65M in the cap by only adding a single void year to DJ (and keeping him) - we havent done any of those kind of deals yet, so we have room

I agree with this. I didnt walk away thinking Bad Bunny was a great musician - I always love Raggaeton beats, but he didnt invent that or anything. The producers of the show did an amazing job. Like you say, the staging and all was exceptional. And i am glad they didnt lecture or make it political (much) but its not like Im gonna stream Bad Bunny any time soon either.
-
The halftime show was excellent. It was positive and upbeat, and not political, and the production was probably the most logistically complicated one ever. I mean, for example, Paul McCartney is the greatest, and id rather go to his concert than Bad Bunny's, but Id rather watch the production they made for Bad Bunny, than Paul standing there singing songs i like and have heard a million times. The staging and camerawork was SO impressive. Never seen anything like it in a "filmed live" production.

Duane Brugler is very good at his job. He often disagrees with the common narratives, and he is usually right. Great place to get info.

yeah like an intro to the class. so the names are familiar when you start to really look into them?

Breaking News: Sources say Eberflus will NOT be the new DC for Atlanta lol
-
right, especially at this time of year, it's crap. guesses are fine, but they dress them up like facts.
-
yeah, dead zone is the wrong term, youre right. I mean like you said, an area where you pay more for the same level of talent. Also, when they rate players, they rate them as prospects. So a guy like Monangai, they saw some things, but saw him lacking in others. He was a bigger gamble, so rated lower. But once they get into the NFL, a lot has to do with the coaching and how they grow. If your scouts think a player is coachable and has hidden skills, then you take that gamble and see. And as a 7th rounder, it wasnt much risk. So you can find excellent players in the 3rd and 4th round and beyond, but theyre bigger gambles, (at least in most teams eyes) and thats why they fall. The most fun is when a player is rated lower but a bunch of teams think he's a hidden gem. So hes not really hidden, but his public rank is lower than the teams might have him. I think Banks and Loveland fit that category. The teams had discovered them, but the pundits hadnt. The draft is an unweildy and complicated bitch! lol

Yes, and also no one knows right now anyway. Let's say, for example, that the Bears want to trade for Crosby. They have a price in mind, and so do the Raiders. Maybe they want too much, maybe another team is outbidding what were willing to pay. So its not just that there is bad info out there, it's that even the main people themselves, like poles, dont know what will happen at this point in the year? The best we can do is guess. And my guess is that we are more likely to end up with Hendrickson, since he's a free agent, than Crosby or Garrett who we would have to trade for. But is there a cheaper DE free agent that our scouts think is about to take a major step? I dunno. So at this point in the year there are only logical guesses. In a month we will hear actual rumors that still arent for sure, but we might hear where the activity is. But right now? It's an information wasteland.

Yeah Ive been thinking - 25 is in that dead zone where you pay more, but get the same level of talent as you do in the early part of the 2nd round. I wouldnt be surprised at all if we traded out of that pick. Possibly UP for a difference maker, or more likely, down for extra picks. Maybe to a QB hungry team like you suggest. That makes sense. I think this offseason is going to be very dynamic with cuts, trades, surprises. We've all seen how Poles and Johnson are aggressive in making changes, and the defense surely needs and overhaul. I think it's going to be a fun and bumpy ride.

I do remember last year I wanted LT Kelvin Banks. All the other ranking sites had him going in the 20s, but Draft Buzz had him going before our 9th pick a lot, almost every time. And they nailed it. In general I tend to think DraftBuzz is the most realistic one, but that also makes it less fun I guess At any rate, I feel like DraftBuzz is that cold sobering buzzkill (lol) site that keeps us from thinking we're gonna get a top ten player in the 20s lol
-
DraftBuzz is tough for sure, but they may be more accurate as well. But try adjusting the random number to something other than the default "2" and youll get different outcomes i think?
-
I found a new draft simulator. I dunno if its good or realistic, but Ive enjoyed playing around with it. Of course, without Free Agency it can only mean so much. But I keep drafting 1 DT Kayden McDonald Ohio State 2 Edge Zion Young Missouri 3 ILB Jacob Rodriguez Texas Tech I havent done any homework, so I might love or hate these guys in a couple months LOL Anyway, heres the site: https://sticktothemodel.com/draft/simulator

I havent done any work yet, so I have no idea, but that does sound good.
-
ugh. at that point, and figuring it takes a few games to get back to form, he'd have missed most of the season. Maybe that mid tier Free Agent is looking more possible. I sure hope Poles finds a way to clear a bunch of cap space and rebuild the defense while also making sure the LT position is good. It's just, we're not gonna find a sure fire ready to play on day one long term answer at pick 25, and we need the pick for something else anyway. It's gonna have to be Benedet and/or a free agent I guess.
-
interesting. thats good news then. another offseason with Roushar should help a lot. I wonder when Ozzie will be fully ready. Week 5? Week 8? Any ideas?
-
if there were no other concerns, Id LOVE to take a LT high. But we're probably talking about a 3rd rounder at best in the draft, and they probably arent going to be better than Benedet. I can see us signing a mid tier free agent maybe, but that costs cap space too. And if we do add another LT by any of these means, I think that means Amagadje is gone. I'll bet the plan is Benedet until Ozzie is ready, with Amagadje, a mid tier free agent, and/or a 3rd round or lower pick competing with him in camp. And Benedet probably wins that, depending on who the free agent is. I thin Benedet did OK this year, and if he can put on some muscle in his base, he should be even better?
-
hopefully he can put on some lower body strength in the offseason and handle the bull rushes next year. he had a good season for coming in out of nowhere.
-
And it's not just DJ, the whole WR group has to make more catches.
