  1. Nagy said he is not an idiot. I believe that. I think he is trying too hard to be too tricky and too cute. Not an idiot. The opposite - thinking too much. This team has no offensive identity, and Nagy is already 3 dimensions deep in counters to counters to trick people. But you have no identity yet, why are you working on all that finesse? You cant be two levels of play action deep if no one is afraid of you running the ball. Look at this. Beginning the 3rd quarter - I formation to Montgomery, working fine. Dude. Regular football is thew trickiest thing you can do! Seriously Nagy, you are not the guy.
  2. What if Pace fires Nagy, and makes Pagano the head coach, and lets Helfrich free to do whatever he wants on offense and at the QB position? We have this supposed deep all star staff. Next man up.
  3. A year ago, I saw Smith as the up and coming heir apparent who would make Trevathan and his salary expendable. I figured a young fast but raw ILB would be paired with Smith and that would be our future. Boy have I changed my mind. It would be easy to try to make this case on Smith's failings, but in truth, I think there is every chance Smith will still end up being who I hope he will be. I am concerned about him, but this isn't the argument I'm going to make. On his own merit, Trevathan is awesome. He's playing smart and tough. He's a real team leader. So yes, on paper, judged only by his age and cap number, you might think about replacing him. I think that was part of the idea with drafting Smith in the first round. But Travathan is a winner, and if we can keep him, we should. He's the kind of player and person that you try to keep in the core of your team. I'm a huge fan of the player and the man.
  4. I said before the season started that i thought Gabriel was trade or cut bait. And this is a big part of why.

I think if it was a concussion by league rules they would HAVE to disclose it. Same with any physical injury.
  6. seriously, this makes a ton of sense. Maybe every two years, but yeah.

Of course I agree. If they were killing it on the field, then whatever theyre doing works. But the thing is, they arent. They are dramatically underperforming. They have no fire. They look coddled. I think the club dub culture Nagy has put in place isnt motivating the players to dig down deeper.

I'll tell you what. I'm not sure HOW you'd fix this. But they'd better find a way, or they are all on the hot seat. This isnt just Trubisky - although he's regressed too. This is a systematic failure. To come out that flat against the Saints after the loss to the Raiders and two weeks off to retool is a serious indictment of the soul of this team, and everyone is accountable for that.

    ahahahahaha that's hilarious

It just feels like a children's birthday party, and that may be very nice, but there is no accountability.

I'll say this too. It seems like the the Bears stopped having urgency after the week Roquan held out and nothing bad happened to him. I dont know why he didnt play. But if it was something stupid like the uniform and Nagy let it slide, then this is what happens. Since then Smith has been giving 70% effort each week. Im really sad to see this happening to our team. Now, I said before and Ill repeat - even if I am willing to move on from Trubisky right now (and Im getting there) he still probably has the rest of the year. I will not fight agaisnt them turning it around if they do. I dont need to be right, I just want a team that dictates tempo. But this is atrocious, and I am very disappointed.

I was thinking about this. Can you imagine Bill Belichick having a dance party in the locker room after regular season wins? How do you expect he would deal with players underperforming? Can you even imagine him calling only 7 run plays in a game? I was wondering about Nagy giving his playcalling duties over to the actual OC, and then he could focus on... what exactly... Team culture, birds eye view etc? If anything is true it's that our culture is not pushing these guys to play well. It's WAY too permissive. Pace has done a decent job stocking this roster. He missed on Trubisky. He's made some other bad calls too. But by and large, he has done a pretty good job of filling our roster. Nagy has done an awful job of putting it on the field. They start every game flat. Forget London - EVERY game. They don't have a good offensive mix. They dont establish the run, and they dont get anyone into rhythm. The players feel loved and safe. THey know they can make mistakes, and be forgiven and supported. Im sure it's MUCH nicer to be on a Matt Nagy team than a Bill Belichick team. I LIKE Matt Nagy. I'd much rather have him as my next door neighbor than Bill Belichick. Maybe that's the problem.
  13. Yeah, on this play it was Mitch all the way. UGH.
  14. I think what he meant was that he isn't calling that a silver lining. He obviously agrees with you in that he called those plays. He's saying the offense doesnt deserve credit for them because the Saints were in a big zone and letting the Bears move the ball and chew time off of the clock. This is also why our defense looks bad at the end of games where we are ahead. I mean, before this new era where theyre just gassed because theyre on the field for 40+ minutes a game.
  15. First of all Kaepernick sucks. Forget all the politics and the rest, just as a QB, he sucks and he's been out of the league for a while. I do think Trubisky is on the hot seat. He has the rest of the year to show something, but if he doesnt, and I think he probably wont, then you gotta do something. It'd be tempting to put Nagy on the bubble, but he wasnt here when they took Trubisky. I also think Pace has done a pretty good job too. Dont forget where we were and for how long. Yes we suck. But we suck differently than we used to. Now we are actually angry because there IS talent on the roster. It's a step forward, but it isn't enough. On D we are really missing Hicks. We need another difference maker at DE. On Offense, we need something on the OL. Maybe more than one something. I'm looking at Massie in the run game. Not good enough. The three young interior guys are doing Ok, and will grow. The WRs and RBs are FINE. Montgomery is going to be very good if we can open some holes for him. Trubisky is not getting it done. They should keep working with him, and maybe the light will come on before the end of the season, but I wouldnt bet on it. Unfortunately, we dont have the draft capital to draft another QB early int he first round. We might be able to move up around pick 20 or so. But we sure as hell wont have the #3 or #2 pick. It's easy to say that Pace blew that one, but EVERYONE thought Trubisky was gonna be a top 5 pick, and he was the consensus best QB available. Yes, you pay Pace to see deeper, but all first round QBs are 50/50 shots at best. So I think next year you need a new QB, ROT and DE. That's before dealing with whoever might be leaving, and resigning our own free agents. Then again, if you're not going to extend Trubisky past his rookie deal, then you'll have cap room to do lots of stuff. But boy is this disappointing. And yes, Nagy needs to get better. There is no good reason not to let the OC call the plays too. It's not like Nagy's had any magic at it. We arent even getting RBs 15 carries. But in the end, Mitch is not getting it done, and the OL is not getting it done, and the D line is too porous against the run right now.
  16. I think all three of our running backs are excellent. Montgomery and Cohen are both special. WRs are deep too. TEs are fine. It's all about the OL and Trubisky.

    agree
  18. if they dont come out of the gate tough this week, then we know a lot of bad stuff about this team but if they do come out strong, that will be fun to watch, but it still doesnt mean anything. we need to string together a bunch of games where we dictate on offense and defense. I dont see it on offense, but Id love to be proved wrong. on paper, the roster looks solid. but we need to see it on the field, and we need to see it over a string of games.
  19. well that's just in usual trade language, in this one, you'd be trading his rights. But Trubisky would need to pass one! Anyway, I'm just joking. It's an interesting idea on cold heartless value, but no human beings would ever really consider it.
  20. I assume KC would like to trade Mahomes for Trubisky straight up right now.
  21. if we cant get picks for him in trade, then I agree about releasing him too.
  22. I think that Long has definitely suffered this year. That's one huge difference. I expect some growing pains with the Daniel / Whitehair swap but i dont think that's really the root of the problem we are seeing. I think Long is biggest culprit, and everyone else has just been kind of flat. We can blame Nagy for not playing the preseason, but we've had five liver action games by now, so we oughtta be in rhythm by now if that was the issue. And frankly, if were gonna judge Nagy, he did manage to get to 3-2 without risking any preaseason injuries, so his gamble did kind of pay off. I dunno what to say about the rest of the line. Let's hope they find their identity and move some people off of the ball.
