Bears at Rams Week 11 - Bad QB Bowl Official Game Thread (Sun, Nov 17, 7:20 PM CT/NBC/Bears +6.5, O/U 41.5)
we could have won this game. so many wasted running plays that made no sense. Mitch actually had an ok game. coaching. coaching. coaching.

Kerrith Whyte claimed of PS by Steelers
the other way to look at that is that when you get a deep roster, you lose players more. We didnt get nothing for the pick, we got a good look at him in comparison to others. Remember, last year the running game was invisible, and so Pace did a LOT to be sure to fix it. He used the shotgun approach, getting Davis in Free Agency, and drafting Montgomery and Whyte while picking up other low level free agents too. He never intended all of these players to make the roster. That would be impossible numbers wise. Was he that much of a fool? Or was he hedging his bet to be SURE to repair the running game? And now we see that it might be the playcalling more than the talent at Running Back that's holding the running game back. So this wasnt a failure by Pace, it was an example of having bought insurance and filling the position.

Myles Garrett Whack a Mole
depends on how you think of it. with all that force focused on such a small point of contact, it could have been very bad.

Burton and Shaheen ruled out
I think we all should agree this season is lost. Having up and comers get playing time, and putting some plays on tape for offseason evaluation is a very good thing. If we have any young players on the OL and defensive front 7 we want to look at, that would be great too. The irony is, this has now become the preseason Nagy thought we could live without.

Kaepernick Tryout
I gotta concur with BF2000 and Grizz on this. The entire league wouldn't look away from a possible franchise QB. Watch Antonio Brown come back and play. If you're a Pro Bowl player, they want you. Period.

honestly, even doing it just for a regular season win is childish. THink of your favorite NFL coach in history - or even your top 5, and ask yourself if any of them would have done this. And if not, ask yourself why.

Tribune Article on QBs in 2017 Draft
One assumes they were playing games with perceptions of other teams as to who they were interested in etc. I doubt very highly it was laziness or lack of effort to do due dilligence.

Kaepernick Tryout
even without all the politics etc, I just dont think he was that good.

totally. and I do think there is talent on this roster.

Calling Jackson, Mack, and Floyd
turnovers in the secondary are often a result of pressure from the defensive front. no pressure = EJ turnovers down.

It's not just a matter of opinion. The greatest coaches in NFL history have all treated their alpha competitive men in a less gentle way, and gotten better results from them. Of course he is trying to create momentum and mojo. But every coach is trying to do that, and the rest dont have dance parties. There must be other proven ways.

Whitehair back at Center
exactly. why they didnt switch at the bye is a mystery. Why it took 7 weeks to run the first power run from under center to montgomery with a lead blocker is another. and the disco dance parties are really starting to bug me.

“Despicable”
I agree with him 100%. And he has to be talking about coaching, because he is talking about culture.

that was a poorly coached stumble into a win. Nagy managed the end of the game very poorly.

Kwit is really good at a lot of things, but he is too slow in coverage, so you have to hide him by scheme to get the most out of him.

exactly. Trubisky is rehabilitable potentially. You all know what I think. Fire Nagy now.

Thoughts on Fixing This Team...
I dont just judge on the record in a vacuum. I am judging because he has never shown the ability to get the running game going, in KC, here last year or this year. I am judging because the once dominant defense has lost its fire in a culture of disco dance parties and brotherly love even when people are screwing up. I dont see what Nagy is doing well that is a reason to keep him. More and more I think everyone including Pace is going to be fired at the end of this season. But who will choose the next GM? I hope not the bears ownership. Last time we let Ernie Accorsi do it. That was smart, even if this is how we ended up. I cant see them doing that again though. This is very very bad - we have dug a hole that it will be very hard to get out of for several years. I've tried to be optimistic and say that if you fire Nagy, you have a chance to see if a change of scenery affects the culture and recipe of this team before blowing it all up anyway. But yes, it is not too early to judge Nagy. This is TERRIBLE football. Now I appreciate the loyalty and character youre showing to stay open to him. I appreciate that in Nagy the man too. I wish this had been successful. But this is football, and tough alpha coaches get results from physical competitive players. But this team has rabies and someone needs to take it out behind the barn and put it out of its misery.

Nagy was coach of the year last year, but he didnt have a running game then either. He has a fatal flaw, and he is not gonna take us to the promised land. You can be positive and watch the team flounder for a few more years and lose the defense, or you can see it now and give us a chance to salvage something.

Mike Davis Released
a 4th rounder + a 5th rounder = decent Offensive Lineman

Whitehair back at Center
yup. If Pace does it Ill be surprised and impressed, but if George does it, hes gonna fire Pace too, and that means we lose Mack and the D.
-
Whitehair back at Center
but will Nagy run the ball in man on man blocking schemes? or will it all still be traps and pulls the few times he does hand it off? Im telling you, I know Im ahead of the curve, but this is on Nagy, and time will prove me right. And when its too late to utilize this defense and Mack, youll realize I was right about firing Nagy now.
