New coach, new era
Or maybe they want to start him at OG because he isnt ready to make the protection calls at center yet, even if that is his ultimate destination?

New coach, new era
I think they genuinely want to say the right thing. But I just care that they want to win more than anything else in their lives.

New coach, new era
Im a cynic. I think they mostly say it to ingratiate themselves with the fans. But who cares. I have my memories of the 85 Bears, I don't need Roquan Smith to be a fan of that team. What I DO need is for him to be a fan of himself and THIS team. I think Pace and Nagy are building a culture of winning. We definitely see them choosing leader types. The arrow is pointing up for sure.

you're totally right it's a multidimensional problem. And that's what Jason is saying too in his hedges. And that's all correct! The problem is Jason thinking we are smarter than the GMs, and informed enough to even place these bets on the same level. It's easy to point at things that don't work out, but champion poker players don't always get cards either. They can't win a given hand by force of will. But over time, making enough bets, their skill will show over other players. So let's not be pulling apart every move Pace makes as a giant mistake, and look at his overall body of work. I mean, to go from where we were to this level of talent and coaching staff, and to only be able to moan about Hroniss Grasu and some lost picks in a trade that got a potential franchise QB? That's crazy. Or meatheaded I guess is the better term

"Be Yourself" is a very different message than say, the Belichick message, but it's one the Philadelphia Eagles embraced and they seem to have figured out the formula: be aggressive, don't play not to lose, play to win. When you're up 21 points with 7 minutes to go, don't go into a prevent, etc. That will definitely lose you some games, and win you others. Pace and Nagy seem like it. There are some philosophies about going for it on 4th down, and going for 2 that are mathematically sound, but unpopular. I wonder if we will see some of that from Nagy. Remember - every gambles wins AND loses. The first time Nagy is aggressive and doesnt get it, let's not all whine that we want to go back to running the ball for 3.5 yards a carry and playing cover 2 all the time. That's not for the NFL. This will be fun to watch, but just like Packers fans learned with Brett Favre, you can cheer the heroics, but you'll throw interceptions too. Awesome. I'm ready. I think we will become a dangerous team. Maybe not always consistent, but dangerous for sure.

LOL, imagine a GM saying this. Youd be all over that. Boy are you a meathead.

Your favorite pick of the draft?
Ok, so youre on the record now, saying you'd bet your first round draft pick on Mike McGlinchey. And youre sure he is the guy. And meanwhile he had one of the best guards in years playing right next to him, AND the Bears have his coach, the best OL coach in all of football, on the staff too, and yet they didn't take him.

fixing the edge rush spot
I agree. I read they will move kwit to OLB to compete with Lynch.

Also, while I agree it is a lot of fun, as fans to do these predictions, and everyone is entitled to their opinions... My point isn't that I am better at this than Jason, my point is that none of us is on the level of Pace and Halas Hall. It is totally weird that for 20 years this team didn't have a GM. They were very bad at this then, and MAYBE one of us could have done similarly than NOT HAVING a GM. And yes, GMs win and lose, but to think that any of us is prepared to make those 4th round picks from only the news sources we have is crazy.

exactly. All you did was say how a quarterback would fit into those teams. That was really a read on the teams wasnt it? I'm asking you to do talent evaluation. Anyway the point is rhetorical mostly because you're not an NFL GM. You have neither the skill nor the support of scouts and coaches, nor the amount of time nor the access to the materials they have. Why do I say you dont have the skill? Because if you did, you wouldnt put yourself up as a GM without having those things. You'd know better. Seriously, dude, your ego is out of control.

no, youre all over the place. I've seen you change from one player to another, from one position to another. You are not an NFL GM, you just arent. And you dont have a scouting and coaching staff to fall back on, you just dont. Here's a direct challenge. Accurately predict the outcome of the 5 QBs selected in round one. DO it here, concretely, with stats predictions for the next 3 years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect

Right. Since so many drafted players flame out in the NFL, predicting someone will suck and then having them suck does NOT mean that you know more than GMs. To prove that, you'd need to list players you DO want to draft, only one in every round, who was available at your pick, and then follow to see how they progressed. That would be a fairer test.

Your favorite pick of the draft?
Miller was totally off of my radar. When they picked him that was the first I'd personally heard of him. And you all know I wanted Edmunds, so I guess it took me a moment of inertia to switch my outlook. I'm all in on Roquan Smith, and I'm glad we picked an ILB. But I'm with you guys. I don't know why, but I'm somehow really excited for Miller. I can't figure out exactly why that's happened. I'm not even so blown away by his film. He's just productive as hell, and if he can keep it up, then he and Cohen and Gabriel can show the world something about being players that may not have ideal measurables, but just play the hell out of some football. And I'm excited for Smith too. And Robinson. I don't think there's been anywhere near enough enthusiasm for that signing. We have the firepower to build a really good offense. And one more thing - if we do what it looks like were going to, and play the style we are tooling up for, Trubisky will erase Jay Cutler from the Bears QB record books. Cuz for real, that was brutal.

Id never heard of him, good to hear that he was on your radar before the draft. It's hard to get excited about 7th round picks, but your endorsement helps.

Exactly. It's fun to play this game, but to actually think we know better which defensive player to take than Fangio would be total narcissism.
