  1. If this is posturing, it's to try to get someone to trade with us, someone who wants Watson a little later and is afraid we might take him. Someone who maybe has a pick around say 12 who could overreact in 2 ways to our benefit, either: 1) trading their 12th pick for our 3rd to take him OR 2) Taking him #1 overall to avoid us taking him before they pick again at #12, ensuring that Garrett falls out of the #1 spot. I would say this means we are less likely to take Watson at #3, if it means ANYTHING at all LOL

I agree. In fact I wouldnt be shocked if 3 of the top four picks go to QB, WR and TE.
  3. BearFan PHX replied to AZ54's topic in Bearstalk
I can see it either way, but I agree I wouldnt be surprised at all. If a trade is involved, then so much the more likely, either down from #3 OR up from our second round, especially since a first round pick gets an extra contract year, so it's worth trading up from the 2nd round a few slots to the late 1st, even if your guy was still going to be there in the early second...

I think it just matters what they think of the QB prospects. I think you're probably right that they dont value any of them that highly, and wont take a QB at #3, but if they DO think any of these guys is the man, then having Glennon on the squad shouldnt make any difference to the pick?

I totally agree, and Im not saying that any of the QBs this year are that good. Just that they are free to make whatever choice they want this year, Glennon or no. I agree.

If Pace & Fox think any of the QBs are franchise Hall of Fame types, they'd be nuts not to take him at #3. I dont think any of them are, but the idea that someone needs to play right away to turn the team around doesnt make sense. They need to do whatever they think will be in the long term interest of the team, thats what all this rebuilding has been about.
  10. I dont think this has anything to do with that, if it did, theyd wait until after the draft to cut him. They wouldnt want to signal their intentions like that.
  11. I agree. I think this is exactly it. Pass Rusher, QB, or Adams are all likely.

Emery pick, and didnt fit the 3-4. Part of the cost we paid to do a complete overhaul. This all goes back to Ernie Accorsi. He put this together 2 years ago. It's going to take another year or so to actually take shape. Maybe two. Look at how the Cubs paid the price for about 4 years. Signing players and trading them for picks and younger players. It was a concerted effort to give up on the current season to build a team that can contend for the Championship. This is why Pace didn't go harder in Free Agency. I think Pace is looking at a Best Player Available draft, period. Yes if you think one of the QBs is a HOF QB you take him, and that would be BPA too anyway. But I think he can pretty much take any position regardless of the roster.

Unless we have a gold star rating on one of the QBs, I would love to see us trade down. When your team is openly saying in the newspaper that they are rebuilding, and that it's gonna take more than just this year - theyre saying this out loud so you KNOW it's bad, then we can use all the picks we can get. An extra 2nd or 3rd is what this team really needs, unless a Hall Of Fame QB is sitting there...
  15. HAHAHAHA
  16. The Bears wont ever move because Chicago is a huge media market.
  17. That draft would make me very happy. I don't have the information or skills to know if Watson is a franchise QB or not, but if we took him that high, it would mean that Pace thoguht so, and so then I'd think so too, and be thrilled with that draft! LOL I do think DL / OLB and QB will be 2 of our first 3 picks.
  18. well said. Finally a GM has the balls to take the long view - I'm very happy with Pace so far.
  19. Agree 100% - having made the moves he's made he is not precluded from drafting a QB in any way or in any round. The question remains whether any of the QBs in the draft are franchise players of course, but I agree, the moves he's made so far are consistent with either possibility. In other words, you cant read Pace based on the signings.
  20. BearFan PHX replied to AZ54's topic in Bearstalk
Right, and it means there is a place for a 4-3 type DE player on the roster too. I think we have a lot of options in the draft.
  21. BearFan PHX replied to AZ54's topic in Bearstalk
Pace said it: "Ryan Pace mentioned that the Bears were in “sub” defensive packages 60 percent of the time last season, meaning NOT in their preferred 3-4 scheme. That was happening very early last season when players noted the Green Bay Packers going to nickel personnel on offense, forcing the Bears to react with nickel defensive personnel" http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-bears/nf...ars-plans-no-11 So he didn't mean 4-3, he meant 4 man front, which is true. We don't have 4 LBs on the field even half the time.
  22. BearFan PHX replied to AZ54's topic in Bearstalk
    I don't think he meant 4-3, I think he meant 4 man defensive front i.e. Nickel (4-2)
  23. BearFan PHX replied to AZ54's topic in Bearstalk
No he means when we are in Nickel with 4 DL and 2 LB, which is a lot given all the 3 WR sets in the NFL.

A guy like Brett Favre throws long risky passes, but he wins a lot of them too, so lots of interceptions and lots of TDs. Cutler doesn't really throw more TDs than Glennon, he just takes more risks.
  25. Glennon is reportedly on a team friendly deal. There is nothing about his signing to prevent Pace from taking a QB with the #3 pick if he thinks someone is worth the value. Having a vet at the helm that you can jettison while seeing if a rookie has the goods is a fine plan, especially given how hit or miss rookie QBs are. I cant say that Pace WILL take a QB at #3, but I can say that if he thinks one of them is worth it, there is no cap problem with paying Glennon this year and developing a young QB under a rookie contract. Since picking QBs isnt easy, it makes sense to take a shotgun approach and see what develops. And of course these arguments work equally well for a QB taken in the 2nd or 3rd rounds too. Pace can take the BPA at #3 regardless of position, QB or not.
