I'm not saying we get a 2nd round pick and use it on a blocking TE. I'm saying use it for a place of need. Like you said we can sign blocking dudes.

All in all, I just wonder how much of a long term asset Olsen really is. IMO, he is just marginally better than Dez Clark. Olsen is faster. Dez catches better in traffic and can block. Can K. Davis be better than Olsen? Maybe. IF we are going to get rid of Martz in a year, then sit out a year, Its a wasted two years of Olsen's "potential". Then the next guy we hire might or might not be able to get anything out of him. I would just rather get something for him than to be wasted space. Plus, although I wasn't really on board with the Martz move, I would actually like to see the Bears do well, so he needs to get people in here that fit his offense. With his comments, it looks like big blocking TE's. We shall see.

Good. IMO, when Peppers gets paid this year, he wont play hard again. I dont want the Bears to sign him and he goes to sleep. We already have a guy like that.

I just think he is overrated in general. How many times has he won a jump ball over a corner? And I think you are really exaggerating the amount of times the #1 corner was covering Olsen. The only time Olsen was covered by the #1 corner was if he was the widest guy. This did not happen a majority of the time. I dont think he is good enough to be mentioned with the likes of Gates. Olsen is an above average receiving TE against a LB who he can run away from. His blocking sucks. Dez Clark is a better receiver in traffic. And a better blocker. If you put Olsen out wide as a WR, he doesn't play to his size advantage. So it is a waste. I think Martz was quoted as saying that if the TE can't block then he is just a WR and he would rather have an actual WR there. When Martz was first hired, everyone thought he was going to be this changed guy who was going to use Olsen and run more, but I have seen evidence of him being the same as he ever was. He will fit the players to his system not the system to the players, IMO.

Yeah I dont understand what the big deal is. Let the WR's develop. We are clearly not going to get a MArshall, and to be honest Boldin is on the downside. Upgrade OL and DL first.

Because I think he is overrated as a receiver anyway. He is good for a TE, not great. When we split him out wide, I haven't seen him give us a mismatch against a corner like he should. And against LBers he gets mugged. That guy Roy on sportsfansnet who does the video stuff has broken down film on Olsen and it looks pretty bad. Just my opinion, but I would rather see us try and get a 2nd for him and have actual receivers out there. I think the first time Olsen lets a CB knock a jump ball away from him, Martz will have seen enough. Maybe not though.

Thats what I thought. For me, JA's strength is drafting in the lower rounds. If you want to rip the guy, at least base it on his first rounders.....

I really go back and forth on Olsen. I guess it comes down to if you are going to be a crappy blocker then you need to be an all pro receiving TE. To me, Olsen really doesn't give you an advantage in jump balls or balls thrown to him in close coverage as he should. I think the fact that teams roll their #1 cb to Olsen speaks more to our lack of WR threats then Olsen's skill. It just sucks that we dont have a 1st or 2nd rounder...

Well Martz is quoted as saying he calls plays to win games. So if he knows that the defense is the worst, shouldn't he want to keep the defense off the field and cut down sacks and turnovers to keep the ball in the offenses hands. Giving up 60 sacks and bunches of turnovers with a crappy defense makes me worry about what is to come here. Again, we shall see...

There are rumors on ESPN that the Bears might look to move Olsen for one of the Patriots 2nd rounders..... Interesting.....

The thing I hear a lot from Martz with regards to his playcalling and his run and pass tendencies is that he calls a game, not to be balanced, but to get wins. Everyone seems to love this answer and doesn't ask the logical follow up "Well what happened in Det and SF?" He didn't get the wins. I just hope that he has learned from his experiences in Det and SF. Getting a quarterback sacked 60 times and throwing 25+ picks is not going to translate into wins, IMO. I fear that his ego is going to get in the way, but I hope it will not. I like the fact that he will actually get in Cutler and friends butts if they are not getting the job done and hope that will be the case here. I think I have some of the same fears as you, nfo, but I am hoping that Martz understands that this might be his last shot at an NFL gig so he actually has to get some wins and not just make Cutler into a top notch FF qb. We shall see....
