  1. Yeah and we all know how well Danielle Manning uses his speed especially when he takes the wrong pursuit angle. Controlled speed is dangerous and Devin has that ability like none other or very few. You could also argue Barry Sanders was not the fatest RB but it was his amazing ability to start full speeed, stop, cut and be back at full speed that made him a special player.
  2. which is it then........... NE lines Welker up all over and is constantly moving him around to expoit the middle but will also take a few shots with him down field much like how CAR uses Smith. What is wrong with developing a rythmn with a WR and using it to your advatage. If Hester was as fragile as you think than he would not be returning Kick Offs or Punts which have a higher risk of injury. I am all for developing Hester as an all around WR and think his development as a reciever is critical to the furture success of this team. I think Welker excels and running routes and protecting himself from taking big hits. Hester is bigger, stronger and psossibly faster than both Welker and Smith. He just is raw and needs more opportunities to develop and more than just the quick bubble pass or fake endround. Hester really has some good games towards the end of the season as he wasmore involved into the passing game. Alot of team like NE throw the short passes becasue they can be as effective as a running the ball. I never said that Hester should only run short 3 yd routes but use these routes early to help estalish an offensive rythmn and to set up other plays which will help the O sustain drives. Sorry your argument of not wanting our most exposive playmaker to get the ball more is weak and Ron Turner-esque(lacking imagination) which everyone seems to jump all over Turner for.
  3. Eli deserves the credit becasue he did lead his team back for the win. He also overcame several drops by his WR throughout the game. However, Eli easily could have been the goat like Rex was in last year SB. We are talking inches from throwing a game ending pick to Samuel late in the 4th. Also note the amazing grab by David Tyree to keep the drive going after Eli threw it up for grabs as he desperatly escaped a sack (without that super human effort the game would have ended there as well). As a pure passer I think Rex has a better release and deep ball. We know the problems with Rex is his lack of consistency but when he came into the league before all the injuries Rex showed very good decision making, pocket awareness and some decent mobility. Say what you want about Rex but I personally believe he has more upside than Eli if he can ever over come the mental mistakes that has defied him over the past season and a half. I admit that I get as mad as anyone when Rex drops back 15 yards and takes a dumb sack when he could have stepped up and avoided the pressure and at least thrown it away. Simply unexcuseable especialy when he did not start out his career doing things like that. Maybe he needs a sport psychologist to get him back on track. I would like to see him suceed in a Bears uniform. I also hope we Draft no sooner than the 2nd a QB of the future.
  4. My point is that Welker's routes are not complicated and that NE gets him invloved early and often. If the Bears did that with Hester he will have exponential growth at the WR postion by the increased number of reps in game situations as well as the positive impact it will have on the offense!
  5. What is even more frustrating is that if the BEARs where able to avoid all the injuries this year they could have had as good as a chance to go back to the dance as any NFC tream!
  6. Hopefully Turner was watching how to use a receiver to exploit a DEF and how to take pressure off a QB. Credit the Giants D for not giving up because how frustrating must it have been to get pressure on TB only to see him dump it off to Faulk and Welker converting 3rd & long all day. I also hope Hester was watching how Welker at his size runs tight precision routes and was able to protect himself from taking big hits by getting down when there is nothing left to a play. Just imagine if Hester with all his talent was able to be utilized like Welker?
  7. I don't care what the '72 Chicken of the Sea say about their era but we all know the 1985 Bears are the Greatest and most Dominating Team of all time!
  8. Congrats to NY. What this Superbowl has shown us is that Defense still wins championships. NE deserved to lose from the monement that they decided to go for it on 4th down early in the game and ended up giving it back on downs. I would also like to point out that if the BEARS do the right things this off season we have a realistic chance of making it back to the SB next year. The Giants are not much differently constructed from a fundamental standpoint than the Bears. Obviously the strength of the Giants is there DEF and their OL gave Eli a chance to make some plays while not making any critical mistakes. I still think REX is the better QB than ELI with all things being equal. I hope we are able to resign him becasue he sure is much better than those other FA QB's listed by Bradjock. Note to JA - fix the OL, add a running back with HR potential and bring in another playmaker at WR and with a little health this team could go along way sooner than most expect. GO BEARS!
  9. Check out this site. http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2008_4.php I am not a fan of Drafting a QB with the 14th pick. This mock draft site is pretty good and atleast has some selections that makes sense. #14 Chicago Bears: Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville Rex Grossman's audition is over. He suffered a season-ending injury in Week 14, which was a shame because he was having the best stretch of his career since the beginning of the 2006 campaign. With Grossman out of commission, I don't think the Bears can afford to keep their quarterbacking situation static. There is a chance the Bears go after Derek Anderson or Donovan McNabb. If that happens, I could see them drafting Jeff Otah, Jonathan Stewart or Malcolm Kelly. # 44Chicago Bears: Anthony Collins, OT, Kansas The Bears need to look into drafting an offensive tackle, given that the rapidly aging John Tait and Fred Miller will be 33 and 35, respectively, come April. #75 Chicago Bears: Dre Moore, DT, Maryland The defensive tackle position is in a state of flux for the Bears, given that Alfonso Boone and Ian Scott signed with other teams, while Tank Johnson was cut so he could pursue his life-long aspirations to hunt with Dick Cheney. It's gotten so bad Chicago has started signing guys off the street. Dre Moore fits perfectly into Lovie Smith's scheme #90 Chicago Bears: Paul Hubbard, WR, Wisconsin Given his contract and age, Muhsin Muhammad won't be around much longer. I'd like to see the Bears find a massive receiver to take his spot #106 Chicago Bears: Jamaal Charles, RB, Texas Prior to the 2005 NFL Draft, Cedric Benson made it a point to prove he was nothing like Ricky Williams. Well, he's not. Williams is forced out by the league, while Benson just looks like he wants to leave the NFL on his own.
  10. Clady woube be great -- Chad Henne no thanks.
  11. I like the mocks on Walterfootball.com he has a 3 rnd deep mock that will be updated to 4 rds once the Jr's declare. His Bears Mock is among the better I have seen; althoug he has us taking Brohm in the 1st round.
  12. I personally like how Mayock breaks down players and prospects on the NFL Network. Here is what he has to say on some of the Top OL prospects. Posted: 01/10/2008 Michigan's Long leads a strong senior class of OTs By Mike Mayock | NFL Network http://www.nfl.com/draft/story?id=09000d5d...mp;confirm=true The senior offensive line class is a study in contrasts. The interior offensive linemen are unusually weak, while the tackle position offers quality and depth along with some interesting wild cards. Ben Liebenberg / NFL.com USC's Sam Baker must demonstrate more consistency and toughness if he hopes to become an elite prospect. 1. Jake Long, Michigan (6-foot-7, 305 pounds): Has worked hard to improve his footwork and had a great senior year. Worst case scenario, long a perennial Pro Bowler on the right side. However, he dropped weight and improved his technique to become an elite tackle. He minimized his tendency to be top-heavy in pass protection and shows an ability to bend his knees and punch with power and balance. Long is a lock in the top 10. 2. Jeffrey Otah, Pittsburgh (6-7, 305): Huge frame, long arms and a very powerful lower body. I watched him battle Chris Long in his first start at Pitt and knew he had a chance to be special. When he bends his knees and plays with leverage he is a tremendous drive blocker. Otah is raw and ideally suited to play right tackle but is athletic enough to handle the left side. He'll be the second senior OT drafted and should go in the top 20. 3. Sam Baker, USC (6-5, 314): Baker is a versatile lineman with an ability to play every position but center along the front. He understands angles and is more of a finesse player than a powerful mauler. Despite a senior year marred by nagging injuries, Baker's versatility should make him a solid second round pick. However, I don't see the toughness and play-by-play consistency to make him an elite NFL player. 4. Chris Williams, Vanderbilt (6-5, 314): Intelligent team captain had a great senior year. Williams is a natural knee bender with good feet and athleticism and is beginning to learn the nuances of the LT position. He may be raw but I like his upside. One concern may be arm length which must be verified at the combine. Also has experience at LG. Mayock's full rankings Find out who Mike Mayock's top five NFL draft prospects are at every position. Some of his choices might surprise all of you rabid draft followers out there: Get the complete rankings ... 5. Gosder Cherilus, Boston College (6-7, 313): Had a better junior year at RT than he did at LT as a senior. Has more physical ability than former second-rounders from BC, James Marten and Jeremy Trueblood, but is not as consistent or nasty. He has long arms and is powerful, but struggled with speed on the left side. He has a great work ethic and should develop into an excellent RT in the NFL. Wild cards 1. Carol Nicks, Nebraska (6-5, 345): Attended three colleges but stunned me with his impressive play against the USC front seven. Nicks has a huge body with great upside but must be evaluated thoroughly in the intangibles. 2. Oneil Cousins, UTEP (6-4, 300): Former DT who will test exceptionally well and had a very good senior season. Ultimately, his best position may be inside.
  13. Don't forget that DEnver picked up Selvin Young as an undrafted rookie.
  14. The Bears need a home run threat but someone who will is able to go up the middle as well.
  15. I like Chris Brown but he is too injury prone; Too tall and lean and besides we already have one CB!
  16. Sounds like our best option financially would to be draft a back and bring in as many FA RB into camp who can hopefuly make an impact and atleast provide competition
  17. Right now there is nothing special about the Bears Running Back as a group while each have some strongs suits what makes an opponent's Def Coord loose sleep at night schemeing to stop the Bears running attack. Right now I love AP as a #2 / ST, Wolfe does a great job in space when there is any! What I am mostly disspaointed in: - Benson's attitude and lack of vision, cutback ability & assertiveness at times (it is very frustrating to see a RB just run into the back of his on OL and basically tackle himself and falldown series after series - The OL poor protection & lack of push up front, the Center / QB Exchange, oh and the consecutive false starts at Home is just stupid and unexcusable! - Wr's drops, missed blocks and poor routes at times - QB's; the dumb turnovers (Mental Mistakes) like running backwards 15 yards for a sack instead of stepping up in the pocket, throwning the ball away or just taking a sack without a fumble or costing excess feild position. - Play calling and overall lack of imagination, execution. Just how much more pitiful would this group's production have been without the points put on the board by Hester? - Coaching: lack of adjustments both DEF & OFF, lack of finding ways to get our playmakers invovled (esp. Olsen & Hester, Wolfe and even putting Orton in soon when it was clear Greise was not the answer); using timeouts or motivating this team to have a killer instict and putting teams away when we have a lead! OFF Season Plan: 1. Get Healthy - mainly on DL 2. Revamp Offensive Unit: a. OLine ( FA & Draft) b. Get another RB ( FA- Turner, Draft) to compete for the #1 (Shanahan always brings in competition every yr regardless of who his starter is and it is to bad the Bears did not bring in FA Selmon Young in for T - Camp) c. WR's Help ( FA- BB, another Vet, Draft) 3. QB ( FA- RG, Trade for another Vet, Draft) 4. Saftey Depth 5. Add a Offensive Specialist Coach i.e. B. Bilick or someone else, Get rid of the old play book; the one that John Shoope left here during his failed internship with the Bears a few yrs ago 6. Get rid of some of the dead weight (salary cap / poor production) - Arch, Miller, Greise, Moose? et al Positives: I do like the future and potential of players like: J. Williams, Dusty, McBride, Payne, Toeina, who should all help keep the Deffense unit strong which will hopefully allow the brain trust to add offensive weapons! Orton showed us that he can be counted on to replace Griese as a quality #2 and possible challenge for a number 1 in 'O8
  18. Regardless if Turner stays or goes we need to scrap the WR bubble screen that Crowton brought here and add more slant and crossing patterns to get more yardage instead of having -5 yrd completions.
  19. I can not count the number of times i yelled at the TV this season: " Where is Olsen?" or "Get Olsen on the field!"
  20. Don't like any Mock with a QB in the 1st for the Bears; especially with some of the other players metined i.e. Stewart
  21. WalterFootball.com has a boycot on the BCS Bowls. While I will still watch a few of them; especially the Illini & Hawaii games I can not agree more with how college football needs a playoff. Walter has posted a 2007 Col FB playoff bracket and it is a great idea!

  22. I agree that Rex is to young to give up on. We need to atleast five him an OL and a running game. I would also say we should Draft a QB as well. There are several I would take a flyer on if a aviable in the 3rd or 4th like Colt Brennan. I started watching him this year and he is fearless, has good footwork, mobile, quick release and nice accuracy. I also like his WR - Rivers.
  23. I agree that we need to improve our offense or the super bowl window which is a faint draft will be sealed for years as we will have to rebuild. This team can not compete as good as we are when our DEF is when healthy with the elite teams in this league. Our biggest needs are OL (quick fix through FA), Draft RB, OL, S, QB, WR, LB with the best player available and stop reaching for picks. Wolfe, Bauzin, Okwo....with the second pick last year we could had an opportunity to draft to a good OT or G prospect that could have been developed this year for next. While I like Wolfe as a 3rd Dn Back and Okwo/Bauzin have not played I think we may have reached early on them. Playes that need to be gone next season: RM Jr., Greise, Miller, Metcalf, Arch & possibly Benson depending on the Draft.
