Aw come on guys after my wife just got me Vasher's jersey for 12 bucks when she knows I don't like wearing a number of a player who is younger than me. So for selfish reasons I want Vasher to stay on the team LOL.
-
DFG a guy I covet for the Bears is Mississippi OG John Jerry who is versatile enough to move back outside to OT but just fine where he is. I also like U Mass' Vladimir Ducasse who projects inside but also played OT. What your opinion of these two?

First of all I forgot the worst of of his 3rd rounders Roe Williams the very first one. I didn't start this thread to bash JA ,I was just merely showing his trends during this round which will help us try and figure out which way he may go this year in the round. BTW why should I care about how well another team does in the draft? I'm a Bear fan and want them to select players that can contribute to this team's success. Any other team can go in the toilet for all I care. If you combine the 1st and 2nd rounds of his drafts with the 3rd round, which until recently was the first day of the draft, the team has gotten minimal return from what represents the bulk of the rookie salary cap each year. That combined with bonus money paid to the 1st rounders( Colombo, Haynes, Grossman and Benson) that didn't pan out is cause for concern. I know better than to get into cap conversation with you but, I don't consider it silly or out of proportion if I see two teams who were in the playoffs when the Bears made their Super Bowl run were there this year and the team that they played in the Super Bowl made it back and has continued to be a contender year after year. That tells me that something doesn't add up.
-
The list starts with Terrence Metcalf, Lance Briggs and Bernard Berrian from 2002 to 2004. At that point not bad hitting on 2 out of 3 with 1 All Pro and a decent play making WR. After no 3rd rounder in 2005 the picks get shaky at best. From 2006 to 2009 JA has picked 7 players in the 3rd round with Earl Bennett and Marcus Harrison being the most productive out of the bunch. Thats not up to par with how he did in the beginning. So when we try to predict what he will do, I wouldn't be surprised if some way the Bears acquired an additional 3rd rounder which has been his trend recently. I'm not quite sure how the compensatory picks are given out but, Wale's impending free agency might net that extra 3rd rounder. Whatever the case may be, this is one of the rounds he has taken chances in. Whether it be character issues or simply reaching for someone ahead of other scouts projections this is the round he does it in. He needs to hit on one this year or it will be "Business as usual". Here is his 3rd round body of work: 2002 Terrence Metcalf 2003 Lance Briggs 2004 Bernard Berrian 2005 No Pick RMJ ? 2006 Dusty Dvoracek 2007 Garrett Wolfe, Michael Okwo 2008 Earl Bennett, Marcus Harrison 2009 Jarron Gilbert, Juaqin Iglesias The one thing that seems to be a recent trend is drafting a DL to play DT 3 out of the last 4 years and the last 2 in a row.

More on Chris Scott according to some reports he went more than 700 snaps without giving up a sack while protecting his Qbs blindside during the season but during Senior Bowl practice it was proven beyond a doubt that he didn't belong on the left side as he struggled one on one with top pass rushers.
-
First of all thanks for your input and comments. As for the two Qbs in question I have followed Claussen since he played in the Army endorsed HS All Star game prior to attending Notre Dame and his freshman year when Weiss put him on the field after a Chicago recruit Demetrius Jones failed in the first half of their season opener, Clausen ran for his life basically the whole year because ND's line was horrible and he eventually was injured and then Weiss inserted a Senior whose name escapes me, to finish the season. In retrospect maybe that Senior should have started over both Jones and Clausen. I just think Clausen should have stayed in school one more year to improve his mechanics because with Golden Tate and Michael Floyd as his WRs, they are good enough to cover up any flaws a college Qb can have. When I made the comment about his coach, I was looking at the lack of success Brady Quinn has had even though he was under the wing of Charlie Weiss' wisdom it has not translated to the next level. It is common that guys in the NFL who are assistant coaches get credit for developing players that are special but the way I see it is players like Farve,Brady and Peyton Manning would be special if you and I were coaching them because they have that inner drive to get better on their own.Clausen may eventually be a good NFL qb but right now I think he should have stayed at ND. Bradford? Shoulder injury and draft don't go together. Right now he is Brodie Coyle with a different injury. Until I see him throw the ball I will stick to my guns. Good college player when healthy maybe he should have come out last year when he may hev been the overall number one pick.
-
1.Colt Mc Coy - His injury in the BCS Championship game has my eyebrow raised and is causing him to slip a little. 2.Jevan Snead- Early in the season he was clearly my number 1 but I question his decision making 3.Tony Pike -He has had an injury filled year and I'm concerned about his durability but when he plays he shows all the skills you like in a QB 4.Tim Tebow- This is more of a ranking for his career but once the workouts start and scouts start to dissect his mechanics his stock as aQB may start to drop and he may be looked at as an athlete. 5Dan LeFevour-I have watched quite a few of his games over the last few seasons and think he is the best MAC qb prospect since Big Ben and thats no disrespect to Charlie Frye,Bruce Gradkowski or Nate Davis. 6.Sam Bradford- Shoulder surgery pretty much has put a big question mark on this guy's chest and then when you factor in what happened to the previous Oklahoma Heismann QB Jason White you start to wonder. 7Billy Cundiff- Who? He is from a small school called Ashland has an impressive TD to INT ratio of 24 to 1 on 199-305 att/comp 65.2% Thats freakin dart throwin' 8.Jimmy Clausen IMO he is overrated has almost a sidearmed throwing motion and is only getting hype because of his school and former HC. One thing he does have is heart and desire to get better. 9.Zac Robinson- Even though he had pro prospects at RB and WR his stock dropped this year because of his poise in big games and his decision making. His arm strength is average at best. 10.Riley Skinner- 9,762 career passing yards and a school record 3160 yds and 26 TDs in a single season. He is a short passing game type QB and woul probably fit a WCO 11. Isiah Williams - He started to decline after Rey Malauga tackled him from every angle in the 2008 Rose Bowl and now maybe better suited for another position and running "Wildcat". 12.Daryll Clark- He reminds me of former Nittany Lion QB Michael Robinson. His lack of mechanics and accuracy may cause some to look at him as an athlete only. 13.Tim Hiller -He leaves Western Michigan as their career passing leader and this is the same school that had Greg Jennings and Tony Schefler at the same time over a 4yr span. 14Todd Reising- Big !2 total offens leader and ranks second in passing yds per game. He has average skillls and his lack of height will hurt his draft status. 15. Matt Grothe- Early in his career he started as a true freshman and proved to be a winner but his lack of size and current recovery from an ACL may force him to chase his dream of becoming a coach early. This list will probably change several times before the draft once everones warts are exposed.(LOL)

flea after reading AZ's post a sentimental favorite of mine is Bowling Green's Freddie Barnes.Since he is from the Chicagoland area and was my son's QB in High School. The fact that he is the single season FBS record holder with 155 receptions is an impressive stat but the knock on Freddie is his timed speed and the fact that he played at Bowling Green doesn't help his cause either as most of the offensive players out of that school are considered "system" players as they play a spread formation with no tight routes being run. He attended Homewood-Flossmoor High School here local and comes from the same neighborhood as former Kansas Jayhawk and current New Orleans Hornet Basketball player Julian Wright. Barnes is also a former basketball player. He along with Central Michigan's Antonio Brown and Toledo's Stephen Williams are some solid MAC WRs following in the mode of Greg Jennings and Tony Schefler as players from the conference that could make an immediate impact on the next level.

Les Frazier is Minny's DC not Ted Cotrell who was one of the DCs of Minny's past.

A quote from JA about TJ when he made the trade with the Jets was that he promised TJ he would try to accomadate him after the season when he demanded a trade after the Bears drafted Benson. When a player demands a trade it doesn't sound like he is happy with his current team. The so called rift between Cutler and Urlacher as first reported by the well-traveled Bobby Wade and then a attributed more recently to a comment heard in an interview by a player who was injured during the first half of the first game of the season( which BTW Cutler agreed with). The local media hear in Chicagoland has said that most of the players get along with each other and the fact that you mention 2 of a 53 man roster is a very low %. How many SB trophies do the Steeler have totally? How many this decade? If you answer these questions truthfully you realize that this is a successful franchise.

I think Garrett Wolfe and Leon Washington are the same players with Washington having more experience as a returner. We need a back that compliments Forte and IMO that would be a big physical type back.
-
A Grizz the problem through the years with this team is that they haven't upset the "apple cart" enough. IMO if I had been JA I would have kept a pissed off TJ and Benson because it seems that animosity served the team well. Now we have a bunch of guys who supposedly like each other and they have missed the playoffs 3 straight years. As for Bell he is what he is an undrafted free agent RB we have gotten more than we expected from him and if he gives us anything more we should be considered fortunate. The Steelers unearthed a gem like Willie Parker and still used a first round pick on Mendenhall. This is how successful teams operate and the Bears should start to do the same.
-
Since we will be picking in the mid 70's in the draft. This is generally the round where you can get some of the top prospects at interior o-line and there are a couple of guys I like that might be available. 1)John Jerry OG Mississippi- I watched this guy in their bowl game and thought he was very good in creating space for RB McCluster. He was moved inside from OT so he has the type of versatility the Bears like. 2) Mike Johnson OG Alabama- This is a leader on one of college footballs top offensive lines and a key contributor to Ingram's Heisman campaign. 3)Mitch Petrus OG Arkansas- Year after year this school puts out studs at OG and this is one of the latest. 4) Vladimir Ducasse OG U Mass- Another OT projected inside or as an RT prospect.

Well everyone after enduring the likes of Halas(at the end),Jim Dooley, who led us to a one win season,Abe Gibron,Jack Pardee,Neil Armstrong,Mike Ditka(Thank God),Dave Wannstedt,Dick Jauron and now Lovie,I have taken a wait and see approach. Of the list of coaches I have watched in my lifetime minus Halas and Ditka, Lovie has coached more playoff games than all the others combined. Yes I know that is like saying your the tallest midget but he is actually third in team history in wins.Six of the eight previous coaches had atleast one or 2 HOF players on their roster with Ditka having a windfall of 3 and possibly 4 or 5(If Dent and Covert get in).Currently there is one maybe two possible HOF players on the roster(Urlacher and Briggs).I don't care who is coaching you need talent and this roster is lacking in that. So in that regard Lovie has done just okay by staying above 500. Now when it comes to Lovie the reason why I wanted him gone is because of these things: 1) Stubborness-His insistence on sticking with his base defense win or lose drives me nuts. Look at Mike Tomlin, the defense he ran as the Vikings DC was the Cover 2 but he has excepted Dick LaBeau and his blitzing 3-4 and won a SB with it. Its also obvious his preference for smaller DL and OL has a big effect on the lack of success running the ball and stopping the run. If you are spewing out a catch phrase"We get off the Bus running" then put some meat on the line and let them pound on the opponents. 2) Game management- Too many times timeouts are used because of plays not getting in on time or Lovie's terrible approach to Play Challenges. He rarely wins any of them. Knowing when to call time outs to conserve time during a 2 minute drill is another big flaw in his coaching. The only guy I saw worst is one of the OC candidates Mike Martz. Imagine those two bufoons trying to manage the clock. 3) Changing Players Positions- This may be one of the biggest flaws of his tenure. 2 Wrs started out as DB/KRs,the starting LG never played the position before, the RT was drafted as a LT,one of your DBs is a SS,FS,CB,Nickel and KR either he is stupid(Thats what I think) or confused. Your GM drafts a DE and you play him at DT. You have a TE that is not the best blocker in the world so lets line him up at H-back and make him a lead blocker on some run plays. You draft a raw DE and what do I see at TC ? This DE standing back on a kick return unit instead of polishing up his pass rush moves. This constant changing of positions and making all backups learn more than one position I believe only creates more confusion when the players actually get on the field. Corey Graham's regression this year is a direct result of his being switched in OTAs. I was not surprised that he was retained because the McCaskeys' don't eat contracts plain and simple and the most sickening thing about that fluff press conference was that the 3 stooges were patting themselves on the back saying they got it all figured out when we all know that the reason that this team is in a shambles is because all 3 of them are out of position. Lovie HC -LB coach, JA GM -Scout and Teddy Pres- Accountant and contract negotiator.

We took Williams with our first pick and Mendenhall was taken later in the first round by the Steelers. Since both he and Williams were injured most of the season last year thats a wash and Forte did pretty well considering evn our own coaches and GM felt it necessary to replace 3 of the five starters on the OL. I believe Ray Rice's line is much better than ours so put him behind this group and he is Forte. Rice split carries last season with MaGahee and LeRon McClain which also tells you the difference of the two teams. Both like to run the ball but one team gives all the carries to one back and the other team gives 3 guys carries.

I agree that Toub is the one true star of this coaching staff and if this organization does what it normally does in coaching searches don't be surprised if Toub would be considered for the HC job. What I like about him is that he takes whatever he is given and coaches them up. Look at how many guys have had TD returns on special teams since he came here. His unit has 2 missed FG returns for over 100 yards. No other team can make that claim. I never would have pictured Earl Bennett as a guy who could take one to the house on a punt return but he put him out there to make the play. He also saw something in our one consistent scoring threat Robbie Gould to keep him on the roster. I like Toub and hope he's here before anyone else.
-
I voted I could do about the same. The reason I go with that is because the staff he has developing his picks are getting rid of guys who are having some success in the league. Examples: 1. The Bears stuck with Grossman and his injuries and errors longer than they stuck with Colombo who is a fixture on the Cowboys powerful line. 2. Justin Gage has flourished in Tennessee and was often inactive on game days while here and seeing him make 2 magnificent TD catches Sunday under scores that point. 3. Chris Harris made less mistakes than both Daniel Manning and Kevin Payne but was deemed expendable. The team hasn't forced as many turnovers since his departure. He and Tillman formed a good tag team when it came to stripping the ball from opponents. 4. Most of us on this board think that Beekman is a much better left guard than Omayale but this staff keeps putting him out there. These are just a few of the reason why I could only do as good as Angelo because of the coaching staff he has. For the past 5 years I have researched and produced a generic draft guide based on what I have seen of the players I have listed in games during the regular season and bowls, allstar games and workouts. I have watched the Combine for the last five years and have taped it to zero in on a few things like QBs throwing mechanics etc. I watch Senior Bowl practice during the week and the game. I usually ignore some of the pro days because the workouts are slanted toward the players who attend that particular university. I usually don't list more than 10 players per position just for conserving ink cartridges purposes. Last year I listed 131 players total and 103 of them were drafted. Now I don't know what a scout does completely but I believe they gather data about certain players, make an assessment and turn it over to a GM. That part I think I could do. I believe the key to any organization is to once you have a system in place to draft players that fit that system. So if my hands were tied as a GM and I was stuck keeping Lovie I would look into programs that run a defense that has players that could transition easy to Lovie's system. Like Tennessee for instance has an old Tampa guy as their DC Monte Kiffin both JA and Lovie should be interested in what he thinks about a player on his team we are interested in.

Mad L if I said John Amos of The Mary Tyler Moore Show fame, would I be dating myself?LOL

BF 2K I got to say 3 playoff appearances in a decade is a whole lot better than 2 playoff between 1963 and 1984(!977 and 1979) which a few of us endured back in the day. That being said you are absolutely right about excpting this crap. When someone referred to this as welcomed to Cubdom it has some merit because this family wants to keep the fans interested enough to keep the cash flow coming. This organization needs to have what happened to the Blackhawks to occur. Not necessarily death but there needs to be an infusion of some youth in management and better way of approaching business. No one saw Rocky Wirtz getting the nod as chairman and I can only hope that Virginia has a similar plan in place if she passes that will not allow Mikey a way back in the mix.

Thank you everyone and keep the comments coming.

Maybe he can compose a tune called "My Former Home Chicago" and dedicate it to Lovie.
