One reason why I don't like these lists is because they are done by people who have not watch the games of the players they have on the list. We all know that Garza has sat out a few games after recovering from surgery. The knock that he had on someone else's lineman was based strictly on a stat(average per rush).Could it be that the running back might not be setting up the blocks right? As far as I am concerned they can keep dissin' the Bears with whatever way they want because it seems to be motivating them. Look at all the talk about them being the worst team with their record. When they beat the Eagles Sunday there will be some other reason to not give this team credit just like some of the fairweather Bear fans that pretend to be die-hard fans and can't enjoy a solid victory on the road as an underdog.

DBDB I watched the pregame show and I thought to a man everyone picked the Bears except Rich Eisen. And I believe he did it to be contrarian.
-
Chile you now I thought about you and a few others on this board who didn't have so much scrutiny about each game as there is now. If we had a place to vent about how bad the Bears were back in the 60's and 70's the complaints on this site would seem like fluff. These posters hate Lovie but how would they feel about Abe Gibron and Gary Huff at QB.
-
I like our chances against the Eagles and Vick and lets just see how he fares against a tough Giants team that had their way against the Bears O-line.With 10 days to prepare it should be very interesting how the Bears do.This veteran staff love them or hate them has done a decent job of self-scouting and making adjustments to what they do.

I agree with that assessment and that was a criticism of Ditka. When I saw them cut Anderson I was very pleased since they had released Alex Brown and let Wale go. Zack Bowman has stayed in the dog house since he left the lineup.

Going into the game against the Dolphins what was the assessment of their team? Lots of people in the national media and Vegas thought the 'Fins would win the game as they were a 1 and 1/2 point favorites going into the game. The skeptics are even more charged up now after the game as they point to Miami playing with their 3rd string QB and incurring more injuries during the game and ending up with a patchwork O-line. Well the Bears defense made that line look exactly like patchwork limiting them to 187 total yards. So the Bears get a win on a short work week with basically one practice and on the road and we can't enjoy it because of are Chicago fan insecurity. Forgive me if I wish to look on the bright side when I see a team that destroyed us beat by a team that we dominated. The only team in the NFC that I think is clearly better than the Bears is the Falcons. The rest of the teams including the Packers( One of our wins) can be beat. I have endured some real bad Bears football through my years of watching since '66 and believe me it is a pleasure to actually be able to watch the team in contention for a playoff spot warts and all after game 10.

The Bears' jerseys no longer have the big intials GSH on the sleeve as a tribute to Papa Bear. If they do maybe I need better glasses. Did I miss something or is it just guys are altering their jerseys? Anyone else notice this besides me.

There is a reason why lists like this are compiled, strictly to create a buzz but IMO the guy that is the best all-time is Sammy Baugh and if you look up his stats from when he played Qb,punter and DB tells me that he was on the field quite a bit and able to affect the games in 3 different ways. In many ways he ended up being a very mean old cuss but looking at archival footage and reading his bio tells me he was a helluva a player and coming from a huge Walter Payton and Jim Brown fan I think he was better. Again players from different eras are always going to be slighted by current fans.

Obviously NBC thinks both are not good since they don't think the game should be shown on their network.

Hey Sam Rosen leave they analysis for the analyst. We have a steady diet of Rosen and Ryan the last few years and it has been atrocious. Sam Rosen takes over for Dick Stocton as the most unprepared NFL announcer.

I was at TC on Aug 3rd and reported on this site that the groups that were working the hardest during drills was the O-line and D-line. The guy that seemed to be working the hardest to me was Lance Lois which might have been one reason why he got a starting nod coming out of camp. The one thing he did that I noticed then that translated into the season with Lois was he was falling down a lot because of poor balance. If I who have no real knowledge of line techniques saw this from some bleachers on the sidelines, just solidifies what you guys are saying about talent on this line. Like I said before the line as constructed now has a size that Tice likes which tells me that he tried it someone else's(Lovie) way but now has some leverage to imprint his choices. The run heavy game plan last week seemed more of Tice's style also. It will be interesting to see what the plan of attack will be this week with Cutler back.I have felt all along that if they would run the ball a little more that Cutler would not be taking as many shots when he goes back to pass because teams will have to honor both aspects of the offense.

TT I hear ya and isn't Mike Williams considered a bust? If you get a chance read the article on the Sun-Times site by David Haugh that called Webb a potential future LT with only one start under his belt.
-
DFG I agree and believe that Garza and Kruetz both have not been criticized for their play and are the last two who have not been replaced but at times the rush is coming right up the middle at the QBs. A lot of veteran players on this team have come under fire so why not these two? Dez Clark dropped a pass at the goaline and has been inactive for a couple of weeks and Martz says its based on his ability to play special teams. Well I remember in the preseason a certain TE volunteered to long snap when Patrick Mannely was injured. I guess that is not being involved on special teams. That was the same BS they said about DA who ironically has been active the last 2 weeks.

You know I can't lie to you. I would never give up a first in season for a OL it smacks desperation. With that being said JA gave up a 2nd for Adams last year.
-
A few scouts during the year he was drafted felt he may be better suited inside and these same guys felt he had durablity issues also and JA didn't listen to that either.
-
MadL lets get it right, if JA spends a first round pick on a OT he will be oft-injured and go somewhere and have a solid career( see Columbo). I think he has his focus on DL only since he has drafted a boat load of guys that are no longer in the league. Most of our best defensive players were drafted by others or acquired by FA of our starting 11 on D Manning and Harris are the only 2 draftees of JA.The drafting philosophy is what has this team struggling from year to year. There have been years when no O-linemen have been drafted at all and just UFAs were brought in. We've discussed this before and if this team is really creating competition at every spot then the O-line should always be on alert.
-
I see there is no mention of Lance Louis and I think speculating about Webb as a future LT is a bit premature after one start since he didn't move to well in the last game in pass protection, he is still a work in progress. If the trend continues for this team to shuffle this line week to week Tice is moving towards the size of line that he prefers large.
-
If we take a look at the history of the NFL draft recently the trend is that the only OG's that get draft ted in the first round have the ability to project to tackle. Most of the recent drafts have guards starting to come of the board late 2nd and early 3rd. When it comes to trades the early round picks are usually used on skill position players unless you are teams that get fleeced by NE. They got a 1st for an interior DL and a 3rd for Moss when he was obtained for a 4th on draft day. Without taking the time to do the research off the top of my head I can't remember an in season trade for an OL for an early round draft pick.
-
That is the real reason why Garcia is out of the question and its just simply he is not a fit for this style of offense. The other thing I noticed is that he seems to be one and done with all the teams he plays with leading me to believe he may be a little difficult for teams to deal with in terms of excepting his role as a BACKUP. He never seems to want to embrace that role.
-
Also Atlanta survived against Carolina so maybe there is no clear cut favorite in the NFC and as long as these experts keep picking against the Bears they will continue to be motivated to prove them wrong.
-
Did you see Pouncey in the game against Alabama? He got man handled by a couple of guys in the interior for the Tide.
-
I agree with you Jason and I reread the thread and I'm still looking for a post from me that says the best defenses don't have to blitz. Since I too was very adult when Buddy Ryan's 46 was running rampant in the late 70's and early 80's there is not enough alcohol in Illinois to make me say that.
-
And Vince Evans too. One of Willie Gaults first TD catches was a 57 yarder from Evans.
-
With Umenyiora questionable for the game the Bears should be able to have alittle more succsess controlling the pass rush but the key is running the football and being committed to it.
-
I agree about your assessment that Lovie fits in the forever coordinator category like Martz,Kevin Gilbride..., but I disagree with you about who is making the go for it on 4th and goal decisions. That is totally Lovie especially when it is 4 runs. Then the this last one was Lovie's decision to go for it with Martz's play that basically was wide open and Des Clark dropped regardless if it was a little behind him because he had his hands on it. The first one was being stubborn the second one was the right call because they had the right play called.
