  1. If I'm not mistaken I thought Halas was a war vet. As for a statue and Soldier's Field being a memorial to veterans; What is the field most famous for? Football. I once attend a game as a child that is now known as the Prep Bowl that happens annually between Chicago Public High Schools and Chicago Catholic High Schools. The one game that used to honor veterans was the annual Armed Forces game that was played every preseason between the Bears and the Cardinals who started off in Chicago and ended with the Bears squaring off against either the Packers or Vikings. One of those games marked the end of my boyhood hero Gayle Sayers' career when he couldn't chase down defensive tackle Alan Page who picked up a turnover and returned for a score. Soldier's Field also used to host the College All-Stars versus the world champions which pitted rookie stars versus the champs and the last one involved the Pittsburgh Steelers of the Steel Curtain era. The reason why I remember this game so well is because Bears draft pick Virgil Livers ran back a punt 88 yards for a score against the Steelers. In Bears history Livers was one of the Bears best punt returners of all time. This game also featured Walter Payton who injured his elbow during the game and caused him a setback in his young career. Off the top of my head I also believe tha Jeff Fisher(Another Bear Pick and current Titans HC) was a participant. During these games there was some military presence during the half times and there were soldiers present in the stands and some on the sidelines.

    Hank Baskett

Baskett is what we have already and to add him is going to make one more WR who is not going to be on the same page as the QB.
  3. Isn't that the biggesst load of crap you ever heard? The NFL is a private enterprise and should be able to govern its employees as it sees fit. And there are guidlines and rules that they have set for their league. Why can't they enforce it?
  4. Mad L I have been on the same page with you on most issuea thats why I was trying to find out if I had not made myself clear thats all.
  5. Isn't that what I posted? I said lets make it through Sunday Nite.
  6. Agreed and maybe he should have spent more time focusing on what he meant to his team and not what JC and BU meant to each other.
  7. That is exactly why BJ went to SIU because he thought he wouldn't get enough of a chance to show what he could do. The problem with comparing Melton to BJ is that he was switched to another position. BJ played RB through out. As for Melton's speed it is excellent for a FB.
  8. Peyton Hillis wound up playing RB for Denver and getting injured so why would we need him when it was obvious he was an RB who was moved to FB by Arkansas because of Felix Jones and Darren McFadden. Our running attack was fine with Forte so what would Hillis have done that would have made our running game better than it was.
  9. Regardless of how poorly the Steelers played they have 10 days to get ready for the Bears and what we do. Lets not forget that the Titans almost ran the table last season so they are a tough team defensively and offensively. I like the thought of having Cutler going up against a depleted team but he has to survive this Sunday Nite first.
  10. What impressed me is that during TC when I saw him do it he caught the ball as if he had been fielding kicks all his life.
  11. I stand corrected. My point was about how there are a lot of players who have gotten hurt due to field conditions whether it happened at Soldier's Field or Veterans stadium players have gotten hurt on field surfaces. Grossman got hurt up in Minneapolis at the Roller Dome (Ditka) yet there has been no rules changes holding owners and teams accountable for those surfaces. Why is that? Its because a lot of stadiums are publicly funded and the NFL has no authority over stadiums that are not owned by its teams. So its next step is to over govern its players.
  12. I saw Melton in person as a DL go back and field a kick during TC.I believe with coaching he could be a player. As far as who we have succeeded with by doing this? I think the Bears put the players they really want to develop on the 53 man roster and just keep them inactive
  13. I can remember a time when two players got injured on the old Soldier"s Field turf. Neither one of these involved severe hits. One was a former packer WR named Phillip Epps who broke both his legs on the turf because his cleats got caught in the turf. The other was former Bear WR Wendell Davis who hurt his knee for basically the same reason, the turf.I am saying this to say that I agree with NFO and believe that a lot of these rules are based on finance and coaches personal feelings. Who changes these rules ? The Competition Committee. Who Makes up the committee? Coaches. Jeff Fisher is one of the main voices you hear now and it used to be Mike Holmgren who chaired this committee for quite a while so that may explain why so many rules protecting th QB were put in place because we all know what side of the ball Holmgren favored.
  14. It seems like you believe the hype and feel that our season could be decided in week 1 when that is far from the case. Last season we started off in week 1 well against the Colts but still was waiting on game 16 to decide if we make the playoffs or not. CD you need to relax and let things play out before you jump to conclusions.
  15. I agree with you about how Wolfe is being used by the Bears and I think he should be used in a manner the way they used Pinkie Gentry during the 80's.
  16. I wonder if Palmer would be making the same comments if he hadn't suffered a significant knee injury . This is another example of a professional sports athlete thinking of his profession as a life or death situation I also wonder if he stopped to consider that there are people in everyday professions that are exposed to near death situations daily like Armed Forces,Police, Fire Fighters etc. What a bunch of pampered babies.
  17. I could see Pashos since he knows Turner and Hiestand.
  18. Pix Thats what I think the interest would be. It is obvious that Harris can't play a whole game full of snaps and Kevin Carter is a little bigger than Lovie likes DEs to be.Since the team only has 3 true DEs, I believe the whole Idonije weight loss story means he may be the 4th DE. As for the way Carter plays he reminds me of Phillip Danials with some pass rush moves.
  19. If I had to choose between the Bears solidifying the roster and practice squad or updating the Web site. I'll take the roster and the PS solidified first.
  20. I agree and there is a reason he has been bouncing around the league recently.I believe he maybe similar to his former teammate TO and polarizes lockerrooms.
  21. Every year when the Bears line up to play the "cheese heads", the little kid in me likes to start the rivalry off right by asking all to give us your best packer fan insults or jokes and your fondest memory of a Bear- packer game. I'll start with a couple of games I remember; the first one is of course the game after the Payton public memorial at Soldier's Field I can still feel goose bumps listening to Dan Hampton address the team sitting on the stage with tears in his eyes and then during the game Brian Robinson blocking a kick to preserve the victory. Actually choking up a little while typing this.lol The second one is from the 70's during the Neil Armstrong tenure when the Bears pounded the packers 61-7, I can remember a quote from former Bear punter Bob Parsons saying that they could open up the offense every week but the coaching staff gets a tight arse.
  22. Local reports said he was doing individual drills for the past couple of weeks and the workouts were pretty intense. With Tillman I wouldn't be surprised if he and Lovie targeted the packer( Its Bears vs packer week so no caps for that team name) game for his return.
  23. You can't discount the fact that the new coach and his new DC(Mike Nolan) may dial up a few extra blitzes to try and put Cutler on the ground to appease the home crowd. I also think the Bears may put in a better blitz protection scheme this week after seeing the Giants getting a couple of shots on Cutler off blitzes.
  24. I think Kinder is the perfect IR "Redshirt" coming off a severe knee injury.I also think that Freeman at LB may be a candidate to be "Redshirted" with the addition of McClover today.
  25. Claussen takes snaps under cemter with Weis coaching. They also are expecting big things out of some of the skill position players that went and spent time working out with their qb. They have a favorable schedule this year but must stay healthy. I'm also going to take a close look at how the O-line plays this year.
