  1. According to Lovie, trainers & doctors made the decision. It wasn't Cutler's decision. When Cedric refused took himself out of the Super Bowl, the doctors said he was fine and he had no lasting injuries. If that's the case with Cutler, I'll be happy to curse him. If reports are accurate, he had a serious injury. What makes me furious is that Todd Collins was our #2 . . . are you freaking kidding me? Terrible.
  2. We're in a weird situation that we have an old dominating defense and a young & mostly bad offense. Considering we made it to the NFC championship, we're likely to hope our offense develops and our defense doesn't go to hell. Top priorities: 1. WR--Johnnie Knox was our top WR & he's terrible. He causes way to many interceptions. He's a slot receiver and no more. 2. DT--We have to get a better push up the middle 3. O-line--What's weird is who do we replace?
  3. Clark's been inactive because Manu's a better blocker, Olsen's a better receiver, and Kellen's a better special teams guy. I was happy that he was active. Ii'm disappointed we didn't see him much today. I was looking for lots of double TE sets and short easy passes to the TE's. Never happened.
  4. But, it sure does not look good that he goes out looking basically OK, with a bit of a limp and standing on the sidelines with no obvious discomfort. It is questionable to say the least. True, but it's being reported they were burning his jersey in the parking lot. A caller on the SCORE compared him to Cedric Benson. Seriously. I don't mind anyone questioning the injury, I sure as hell did. But the anti-Cutler remarks seem idiodic. AND, BTW, no one here has been calling for Hanie....it is reasonable to ask questions about why your QB goes out in a Championship game without an obvious injury I promise you there will be a push by stupid fans for more Hanie. I'd stake my life on it. Hell, some fans STILL want Orton . . . can we forget what was given to get him to Chicago? Agreed. There was a report in Denver about how McDaniels ruined the franchise by dumping Cutler.
  5. Watched the game at home with the family like normal with one helluva an appetizer spread. I agree it's good not to change things. Love watching while listening to Joniak & Thayer (although I couldn't get them today.) Can't stand trying to watch the game in public where most people don't give a damn.
  6. Yep. The NFL did this to ensure that games would not get too ugly. Hanie was inactive. Once he entered the game, #1 & #2 cannot reenter. You rarely see this because typically teams have more sense then to have a #2 who is a freakin terrible joke.
  7. Why the hell was Todd Collins the #2? Entering the game, he completed 15 passes and 5 of them were to the opponent. Terrible.
  8. Doug & OB on the SCORE are saying he likely had a ligament tear and the Doctor's told him "no." IMO Cutler's earned the benefit of the doubt. He takes a beating and gets back up . . . why would he quit in the biggest game he might ever play in? During last year's season opener, I called Urlacher a pussy for going out with a broken finger. Turns out that was pretty damn serious. Urlacher don't miss much. Unless I here differently, I'm giving Cutler the benefit of the doubt. Please don't start with the "We want Caleb!" bullshit.
  9. I'd have been pissed at the hats for a normal game, but here there's a bit of self-preservation involved. The temp's projected to be in single digits with the lake-front wind and snow. It wouldn't have been a big deal to take the damn balaclava's off, but I'll give them a pass when it's that damn cold. Watching it on TV, I teared up with patriotism when Jim Cornelison belted out, "and our flag was still there . . . " followed by a long shot of the flag. As a middle-school administrator, I supervise athletic events where the anthem is played nightly and it's easy to forget the significance. I'd compare Jim Cornelison's version to the 4th of July. It's not a quiet respectful tribute to the country but a loud boistrous celebration of the USA. I loved it.
  10. I can't argue with what a waste Manu has been. However, Matt Forte has been pretty damn good this year. Is he able to block and run as effectively without Taylor looking over his shoulder? With Taylor's experience and blocking ability, combined with how Forte responded, I can't complain about signing him. What everyone is missing is how much money we have to spend this year. We have all our major guys under contract and with resonable numbers since we always seem to front load contracts. We can be major players in free agency again this year.
  11. For better or for worse, the two things you always hope for in the playoffs is: 1) Play the worst team--Seattle won a playoff game and they STILL have a losing record. I can't see them winning a 2nd playoff game. 2) Homefield Advantage--It's debatable whether Soldier Field is an advantage. What's not debatable is that it'd be great to receive the Halas trophy at home. Based on these two factors, I'm rooting for the Packers to win today and next week vs. Atlanta.
  12. Has anyone else used this site? No offense Fudge, but it looks suspicious.
  13. That's why I listen to the Bear's radio broadcast. You can't go wrong with Joniak & Thayer. The only downside is the radio comes through 17 seconds before it happens on TV (Damn you Janet Jackson!!!) The delay is great when the Bears make a big play. When it's awful I just sit there for 17 seconds hoping that Joniak & Thayer lied or were wrong . . . so far they've been accurate.
  14. A few things: 1. Has anybody noticed a big difference between Omiyale & Chris Williams at LT? They've both looked awful at times. 2. Was anyone thinking Chris Williams could be a stud LT this season after what we've seen during pre-season and part of this year? I sure as hell wasn't. 3. Can Chris Williams be a top-shelf LG? If he can, just think how this would help Omiyale. Omiyale might actually go from mediocre to average. Hub Arkush mentioned on the SCORE Tuesday before this broke that he thought Williams was better suited to play the guard spot right now. I know Omiyale is better suited for tackle because his arms are so long which makes him good for pass protection. It's much easier to be a stud guard then a stud tackle. This might work. Kudos to the staff for actually trying to correct a weakness (the fact I'm applauding them for this says a lot about Ron Turner.) On a side note, J'Marcus Webb scares the hell out of me. His mobility appears to be a cross between Frankenstein and the current version of Orlando Pace. I can't see him sustaining a pass block. This has Q-Mitchell written all over it. Fortunately for Webb, the line is full of Q-Mitchells.
  15. Agreed. Before that play I was thinking we should just take a knee and kick the field goal. Either way, it's frustrating that we still have these goal-line issues.
  16. But isn't that a contradiction? We developed Orton to the point where Denver closed the Cutler deal with us over Washington because of him. Compare Orton his rookie year to his final with the Bears. There was a huge difference. Denver's record is 2 & 3 and they have no run game. As for Lloyd, when he was with the Bears, he couldn't catch the damn ball if he was wide open and you threw it right at him. Now if he had to turn around, make a diving catch as he's falling down, he could do that. Orton was so impressive, Denver traded up in the first round to draft a rookie QB. We'll see how the season plays out.
  17. That doesn't make a difference. We're paying Mark Anderson 1.75 million on top of what he's already making for the Texans. Anderson wasn't very good, but he at least look like he belongs in the NFL. I wouldn't want Collins on my softball team. He's done. He can't play. Cut him.
  18. this I disagree with, Pace was huge on the rams and pretty much the entire OL of the rams was good size, I think you maybe thinking of Shanahan, Not Matrz. Yeah, but Pace is a first ballot hall-of-famer and is the exception. I'm not sure about size, but Martz wants two LT's. Guys who can move quickly in pass-protection. That's why we started Q-Mitchell for a season . . . Webb looks like he can be a mauling RT, but there's nothing quick about him. I have no reason to believe he can sustain a pass block.
  19. We benched Shaffer for Webb going with the jumbo package. In run protection we looked pretty damn good. Pass protection, very suspect. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Martz likes smaller quicker o-lineman. Tice likes the beef. At least we proved we could run the ball. Although I'm still having nightmares about the Giants game . . .
  20. As per Zack Zaidman . . . not medically related.
  21. Agreed. Chemistry is such a big factor at the WR position. In the past two seasons, we've seen two other high profile WR's traded mid-season. Roy Williams to the Cowboys and Braylon Edwards to the Jets. Both have been incredible disappointments. Not to mention it was a disaster last season when we traded our #2 for Gaines Adams. Despite that, if it was just money, I'd say do it. If it was just the pick, do it. But the combination of the two equates to a real bad idea.
  22. Hell yes Bowling. As long as we beat Dallas next week, this bad game will be quickly forgotten. Enjoy it while we can.
  23. I remember a game in 2004 against Detroit. Bernard Berrian caught the ball in the end-zone. Had full possession. When he hit the ground the ball moved a little bit. This would have won the game. It was ruled "no-touchdown" saying the ball moved. I thought it was a bullshit call. I thought the Johnson catch should have been a TD . . . I guess we're even.
  24. It's a stupid argument. Lets flip it to the defense line. You could throw out that in the past 10 years we've drafted like 37 d-lineman. By this logic, we have a good defensive line because we draft so many d-lineman. When you look at our starters: 1. Peppers--drafted by Carolina and paid 90+ million to come here. We dumped a 4th round pick, Alex Brown, because we signed him. 2. Anthony Adams--drafted by San Fran and beat out all the guys we drafted to replace him. He continues to beat out the Dvoraceks, Harrisons, and whoever else. 3. Mark Anderson--5th round pick . . . questionable starter 4. Tommie Harris--#1 Current players: Idonije--Picked up off the scrap heap, Toneia--Scrap heap, Henry Melton--4th round, Marcus Harrison--4th round, Corey Whooton--4th round Guys we've dumped: Dvoracek--3rd round, Bazuin--2nd round, Tank--2nd round, the guy we took in the 1st the year we drafted Rex who's name I forget . . . After all those picks, the only guy on the roster we've drafted who's real good is Tommie. Hell, that's even questionable. Our defensive line is average at best. We draft guys, we trade and pay for guys (Wale) and we're still mediocre. We've had better luck signing d-lineman then drafting them. Logic might dictate that if we had drafted a bunch of o-lineman, the line would be as bad or even worse.
  25. Damn good point. I agree 100% with everything you say when you talk about the positions. You didn't even mention that Martz is a huge upgrade over Turner. Here's the big difference: 1. Green Bay is much better. Minny is probably just as good. Do we have enough to leap-frog them? Detroit's bad, but not the pushover they once were. 2. Last year we faced the cup-cake NFC West. We still only finished 2 & 2 with bad losses to San Fran and Arizona. It's how we got to 7 wins that concerns me. The teams we beat: Detroit twice--Awful team Cleveland--Really bad Seattle--Terrible St. Louis--Worst team in the NFL That's 5 wins against dogs. We beat only two teams with winning records. Pittsburgh: Great win. Jeff Reed missed an easy field goal that would have tied it. Hey, a win's a win. Pittsburgh finished 9 & 7 and missed the playoffs. Minny: Helluva a win. I won't mention that Favre might have sandbagged the first half to prove a point to his coach. We beat 'em.
