He was cryin' like a sissy. Pathetic.

Unless he's signed with someone in the last day or two, he's still available. I'm with the folks here who blame the OL more than the backs. We're old there and need a lot of help. A LOT of help. I was worried about the OL last season before it started and now I'm just frustrated as all hell. That said, Benson is pretty darn close to being a bust in my book. Has anyone heard how his rehab is going? I know a guy who knows someone on the Bears staff who said something along the lines of "Benson has an injury that takes a lot of dedication to rehab. From what we've seen, he doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to make it happen." I'm paraphrasing but this is from someone I have no reason to doubt. It may be time to look elsewhere.

I like it. A 1 year deal loaded with incentives. What more could you want? If he wins the job and turns out to be Good Rex for vast majority of the season, he'll have proved he's worth a longer higher paying deal. If he can't beat out Orton in camp, having a QB who played us into the SB on our bench isn't too bad. $3 million is peanuts these days. Interested to see what they do in the draft now. Griese is gone, IMO, but a lot depands on where they go in FA or the draft. I guess this means we won't be chasing McNabb.

Don't you always? I agree with you on most of your above thoughts. However, Booker is old and I wouldn't sign him. I'd find a kid in the draft that looks like him (statistically) and sign him cheap. You can find a WR like this in the 4th round or later. I'd absolutely cut Moose for a kid but not for Booker. I have to believe it's a push on the money side and Moose probably has a step on Marty and statistically they've produced about the same for the last 3 seasons (about 50 catches on average.) So, I agree with the concept of a "Booker-like" player, just not that Marty is that guy anymore.

On the defensive side of the ball this is true. On offense our line, RB's, WR's and QB are all lower quality than the same on the Giants. Unless you assume we'd gel like Eli and his team seem to have done. But then again, that has little to do with health.

Has this board been infiltrated by communists?

We can still say that with them having lost in the playoffs too. I'd rather see the Packers lose every game they ever play. I HATE THE PACKERS. That isn't hypothetical.

LOL! Well, there's some bad stuff going on in my personal life which will take a while to sort out. I'm also swamped at work (where I usually post ). I should be back to slapping you around consistently before next season starts.

Somebody needs to breath some life into this board.

Hub is a stupid ass and if the Bears are telling him anything at all, which I seriously doubt, they're feeding him garbage to throw other teams off the scent. Hub hasn't said anything worthwhile in his career and the bitter little man that he became after the Bears showed him the door really told me all I needed to know about his character.

Awesome one NYC! I love a lot of the ones mentioned here so I'll add a more obscure one... Bryan Robinson's kick block against the Packers the week after Sweetness died in 1999. It's become known as the Payton Game and even though the win was totally meaningless in a lost season, I had tears running down. It was a great "moment" and Robinson said something along the lines of "I felt #34 picking me up into the air." These types of moments are what make sports worth following.

If he doesn't fit Marinelli's system he doesn't fit Lovie's system.

I agree. And we got literally destroyed by Dallas earlier in the season (in every way possible) and we weren't the same team afterwards. If we'd have played Dallas toward the end of the season we may have been healthier and picked up a win or two along the way that we didn't otherwise get. Who knows? All I'm sure of is I saw a team in GB this season that won 13 games with marginal talent. That ought to be a cause for optimism here.

The Packers won't be as good next season as they were this year. I see success breeding some discontent on that team, just like it happens elsewhere. Favre will be back but that isn't necessarily a BAD thing. He's had several lousy seasons leading into this good one and then, in the end, he still screwed up. Classic! They are very young but I'm not buying their running game. I think they have some holes on D, particularly in the backfield. I also believe I've heard they may have some potential losses to fix in the O Line if some of their guys go into FA. If the Bears can stay healthy we'll be in it next season and will probably win it. We took the Packers TWICE this year and they didn't make it as far as we did last season. This is a HAPPY HAPPY day to be a Bears fan.

And the way it ended... SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! Favre drops back... HE'S PICKED OFF!!!!! Giants WIN! WOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I couldn't agree more. This season was a bust because we finished a game under 500 only one year from being in the SB. But when you look at it, inconsistent (heck, horrible) QB play to start the season couldn't have been expected by anyone. I think the general consensus was that Rex would probably elevate his game, at least a little. Talk before the season was that they brought in Pep to address his lack of consistency and his fundamentals. It didn't work and Rex was a huge disappointment. The D played like a team with half their starters injured. Know why? Half their starters were injured! If you add a healthy Tommie and Dusty to the interior of that line and a 100% healthy Urlacher, nobody runs over us. Further, if we have two healthy corners for the season, we're significantly better. Anderson had a sophomore slump and then got hurt. Brown was IR'ed and then Archy proved why Washington let him go as he played poorly when forced to cover. There were some positives to come out of this, however. Frankly, I was impressed that with everything that went wrong, we ended up the year at almost 500. Down the stretch we built some momentum for next season and Orton showed he can play QB at a pretty good level. Babich coordinated himself around the talent he had left on D and didn't do a terrible job with diminished talent. A few breaks here or there and we could've just as easily been in position to sneak into the playoffs like Washington did. Another positive... Ced was exposed as the poser he is. He'll never be great because he doesn't care to be great. We now know he's a bust and we need to move on. It's all about picking up some guys for the O line and a RB with heart for next year. If we stay moderately healthy and add just those components, we can compete again. I trust JA and Lovie to get us back there and not need to go through a rebuilding process. And, to be honest, beating the Packers twice in a season in which they won 13 games feels pretty damn good. I'm looking forward to next year.

I wouldn't let him scrub the locker room floors much less let him coach. He might be OK as a high school coach... Maybe. For like a girls school just starting a football program...

I just found out the Shoopster is the OC for NC. Yeah, that would be the NC football team that went 4-8 this year. I know they aren't generally considered a football powerhouse or anything, I just wanted to let all the Shoop haters out there know bad things continue to happen to him.

There really isn't any reason to get emotional about this. The kid appears to be short (I don't believe he's really 6-3) and he throws side arm 90% of the time. He didn't look to have a pocket presence either. His line didn't help and it was clear the entire Hawaii team was outclassed. That said, I'd never spend a first day pick on Brennan. That's my opinion based on what I saw. The kid stepped up in class and like many horses he got beat by the field. He came away from the game saying he'd never seen a defense move that quickly. Just wait Colt! The worst team in the NFL is 100% faster and better than anything in college. Of course, if he drops until a later pick on day 2, it'd be worth it for a team that can pick him and let him develop. He may have what it takes to get used to the speed of the NFL given time.
-
In fact, Hawaii doesn't really belong on the same field as Georgia. Too bad to since I was really looking forward to this game.
-
Particularly since I forgot Tommie. Gotta sign him.

Get the D healthy. Retool the O Line (2 new starters at least) via the draft and FA. Pick a RB in the first round. Tell Turner to call the games like he did today... Agressive! Sign Briggs, Berrian, and Des Clark. Let Grossman go. You may go into the year with Orton as your QB but bring in a solid FA if available. If not available, draft a QB and keep Griese as your backup. Start Orton. Trade Benson for a mid/late round pick. Do it now. I'm hearing the injury he has will require a lot of work to rehab. Who believes he'll have what it takes to rehab it? Start thinking about paying Hester.
-
I agree. Heck, even this season, when Kevin Jones was healthy, they put together a series of games in the middle of the season where they were running the ball fairly well. That said, I'm fairly certain Cedric isn't a Martz type of back. He'd have to go. Oh wait, that would be a GOOD thing too! I'm done with Benson.
-
I don't like the arrogant prick any better than anyone else around here... But he'd coach circles around Turner.

They're proven cheaters.
