At this stage I'm taking this with a grain of salt. But I sure hope they're both awesome!

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/...him-in-round-1/ Don't know what to make of this. PFT is known for sensationalizing everything. Earlier today they had an article dedicated to saying the Bears took Long with Suh in mind. Well duh. They took him with lots of D Linemen in mind, you dolts. I assume Carimi makes the lineup assuming he's healthy. And that's not certain.

Try as I might, I STILL can't bring myself to blame Brian for doing that. I know she's a skank but I'd be all over that myself. That said, I doubt there's any pictures of Red Grange with his era's version of Paris Hilton out there. Just sayin'...

You can take most any quote out of context. I promise you, he wasn't talking about a stone carving of the greatest Bears of all time when he said that. The very nature of this theoretical "Mount Bearmore" is historical or "about the past". In addition, given Urlacher's history of hooking up with trashy gals, it wouldn't surprise me if he did something to embarrass us in the future. I'd hate to have to blow off his head with dynamite at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Understood on Ditka but I'm saying if you only have 4 Ditka ain't on my version of the mountain. Maybe like many wanted to add Reagan to the real one, we could find an extra portion of stone for Iron Mike...
-
Well then you need to put down the joints and talk to a few Bears fans who understand the history of the team. Or better yet, read up on it. I'm sick of this team's fans taking our history lightly. We've got more members of the HOF than any other team and only fall behind the Packers when it comes to the number of championships. Yet many "fans" seem to think Forte is the best RB in team history. Your age is no excuse.

I just feel like the list you're all proposing is too modern. I realize Halas gives it a little depth but Red Grange needs to be on the mountain. Frankly I'd pull Ditka. He had the talent on those late 80's teams to win several Superbowls and managed just one. Don't get me wrong, I love him, but there's no way I put him on Mount Bearmore ahead of Payton, Grange, Butkus and Halas. And the folks on PFT putting Urlacher on the list are chumps.

And he's started more than 30 games more than Long has...

Of all the crap that's come out of your piehole these last few days/weeks, you're dead on here. I know everyone wants to say Lovie or Tice handed this or that to this player or that. Bullshit. They didn't want to get fired and people who don't want to get fired try their best to use the best they have available. Don't get me wrong, I think Webb sucks but he sucked less than other options. We'll see if his change of life improves his game and if it does, more power to him. No matter what, I want the best 5 on the field and I believe any coaching staff feels the same way.

I'm hoping to hear that at least one of the three rook LB's we just drafted "hits like a ton of bricks and has an outstanding nose for the football." It would be great if they said that about all of them... I'm expecting to hear Alshon is "all that" and a slice of cheese. I'm hoping to hear that Hardin is out there. Did he show up in April, I can't recall? I'm also expecting to hear something like "the tremendous depth we have now in the OL is going to make for great competition". I'm hoping to hear someone other than a coach say Long is a ferkin' stud so we can all stop the whining. Will the unsigned guys show up? Anything in the new CBA that precludes that? I'm also interested in hearing if any of the undrafted dudes impress. If you remember, under Smith and Angelo, there was a guy every year who was "really impressive" only to see him get cut at the first round of cuts. In other words, let's watch for how deep the bullshit gets. Thus far I've been most impressed with Trestman/Emery being straight shooters. Now that player evaluation time is here, for their own guys, I hope that continues. And you?

Smoking ANYTHING for an athlete is moronic, if you ask me. Lung capacity and yadda yadda yadda. But he was talking about working to take control of his usage so he must've realized it was getting to be a problem. Not moronic. As for weed, I'm not and have never been into it. But if beer is legal... But until that day, if you get busted with it on you, the "fuzz" is just doing their jobs so show a little respect. Damn youngsters...

I look at it this way... I'm assuming I'd have had the same information the Bears had. This means I was privy to all of the information scouting, etc was giving to Emery. And given that I have no reason to distrust Emery yet (his draft class last year is still unproven and is somewhat tainted by Lovie's involvement) I'm saying I'd have gone the same way the Bears did. If we're all to pretend we're experts on our own and go by all the internet sites and Mayocks and Kipers of the world, of course I'd have gone a different route. But there's no real reason to think those sites have any more knowledge than our own staff does. If they did, they'd have jobs in the NFL. No, what these sites really do is set expectations and converge to a data set that everyone in the news media buys into. And then they broadcast that tripe as gospel. It gives simpletons like Hub Asskiss the right to say Emery blew the pick, which sells newspapers. And if Long develops into a great guard or solid tackle, NOBODY will ever hold Asskiss accountable. It's nice work if you can get it...

Not OK according to the CBA. Lovie can't just start requiring guys he suspects get tested five times a week. Jeez. I swear, Lovie's gone guys, let him rest in peace. And if you're going to attack him for things, let's make it things he had some control over, OK? As to Webb being a moron for the things he said in that article, I couldn't disagree more. As someone who watched a loved one destroy herself with alcohol, I can tell you it would've been a dream come true had she ever taken similar steps along the path to recovery. But beware, just because he realizes there's a problem and he's talking the talk, beating his addictions, whatever they may be, will be tough. I have no idea if this has anything to do with his abilities on the football field. He just doesn't look like much of a player to me. But I wish him well in this and hope for his sake he succeeds. And if we get a better football player on the field at the same time, we'll all be happier fans. Except those who live to tear the team down...
-
I agree. And for those naming Trestman, he hasn't proven anything to me yet. Hard to say he's the best anything until I see his team play a few games. As of right now he's got exactly ZERO wins as a coach.
-
Did anyone else have this magazine? I think I may still have it in the bottom of some drawer somewhere. It's from 1983.
-
Harbaugh wasn't on that team (drafted in 87) but Jeff Fisher was. Still, your point is valid, these are all "Ditka Era" guys.
-
Yeah, there's 52 numbered players in that photo and I think the maximum roster size was smaller than that in 1986.
-
Odd thing is, I think #21 is Leslie Frazier and he wasn't on the roster in 86. It sure looks like him too so unless they had a different #21 on the roster in 86, they must've had him in camp after he tore his knee up in SB XX and then cut him after this photo was taken.
-
Note that Todd Bell (#25) and Al Harris (#90) are in this photo so this isn't the Superbowl Team. The link to BearsHistory.com suggests this is 86 but I thought only one of those two came back after the Superbowl. I'm probably just forgetting. They were both on the 84 team but Butthead and Fridge weren't. I can name almost all of these players! I'm 48.
-
Yep, and he was an extreme ass-kisser when they were paying him. So his character has always been an issue. With that said, he has a good football mind when he's not on the fringes. Funny thing about these "experts" is nobody seems to hold them accountable after the fact. Oh, and I'll take Mayock's opinion/valuation of the pick over Hub, regardless. "He's one of my favorite players in the draft. He's immediately a starting guard that down the road is a starting tackle." -- Mike Mayock
-
It's bullshit he was even flagged for that hit. THIS IS FOOTBALL!
-
Frankly this isn't Bears-related anymore since the team has already said they weren't interested. This should be relegated to a non-bears location on the board. FWIW, I personally think Tebow is a sanctimonious poseur that some will defend tooth and nail because he talks their language politically or religiously or whatever. I'd prefer a good old fashioned self-serving guy like Terrell Owens over this douche any day of the week. And I'd prefer a swift kick in the balls over either!
-
Hey. at least he's checking the right boxes when he sends in the paperwork. So far.
-
Amen, brother. And our nerdly Canadian coach should be able to phone up someone in the great white north who can throw the damn ball! He should be able to find someone there with the talent to outdo either Tebow or McCown.
