  1. Excellent post. I agree with nearly everything. As I've said, I respect(ed) the Jack Kemp Republicans who were more in line with your libertarian philosophy. The problem is, this ain't your daddy's Republican Party. Obviously the Dems have their own issues but I see a sincere interest in competent government from them and that's good enough for me these days. Getting our ducks in a row financially and not shitting on the rest of the world is key. Bringing people who believe in science and who support green initiatives are important to me as well. Remember, you really aren't voting for Obama himself but an administration he'd bring with him. On so many levels, the world is ready for us to become leaders rather than bullies again. Staying out of people's bedrooms and medical decisions is also important to me, even though I'm personally against abortion. I'd also like to have someone in there with the brains to make the right decisons on deploying our troops. A real energy policy not written by the oil companies too! And I'd like to pull the US Constitution out of Cheney's paper shredder.
  2. And a response to those Republicans who now deny voting for Bush... Former Republican John Cole on Sarah Palin: Why do you think they love her so? But Cole really nails it here: Conservatives are trying to rescue the reputation of their battered ideology by claiming that Bush was either incompetent, or not a good enough conservative. It may be laughable, but they've got to somehow explain away why conservatism has failed this country so disastrously. Their ideology is sacrosanct, infallible. Conservatism can't fail, only people can fail conservatism. Yet as Cole notes, the very qualities that made Bush such a failure are perfectly encapsulated in Palin (with a healthy dose of Cheney-style abuse of power for added spice). MY TAKE: Obama was right, it's time for Republicans to own their failure. Stop passing the buck or trying to repackage this dog shit you've been peddling. We're not buying. Go stand in the corner and shut the f*ck up. We'll take it from here.
  3. Yep. Excellent thread Noots. Thanks for the effort.
  4. It's time to fight man! Democrats don't have to be pussies! Take no prisoners! It's time for everyone to get in the ring and do everything they can to bring this country back to where it belongs. I know I'm being "in your face" about this but god damn it, we've lost eight years to a President everyone now admits was a complete fool. Because of chumps like DB who think they got a big tax break when all he got was borrowed money. I said it in 2000 and now even most Repugs are denying they ever voted for Bush. Well, shit... I guess Karl Rove stole even more votes than originally thought. Or maybe I was right then too! I'm not trying to claim I'm holier than thou. I'm not. But I'm damn tired of a party full of religious nuts who believe they are, continuing to run things. They're incompetent and dangerous and their shit, does in fact, stink. Smaller government has become NO GOVERNMENT. They're "pro-life" but they're just fine and dandy with our murdering 100,000 or more Iraqi's in a blundered into war. They're anti-terror but pro-oil, the source of terror money! They're pro-troops except, well, they really aren't. If it weren't for great PR, nobody in their right minds would ever vote for these dogs! They've been great at using mockery and ridicule to their advantage. I concede the Republicans have done a marvelous job with those tools ever since Clinton couldn't keep his cigar lit... TIME FOR THEM TO TAKE A BIT OF THEIR MEDICINE!
  5. No question. And he's being called out in every paper and on every news program (other than Faux News) for the lies he's actively spreading. Ask Doofus Bomber how he feels about that. If he'd rather vote for someone who realizes the only way to win is to lie and cheat. Something McCain has always stood against he's now into feet first. He stands for nothing. He'll do anything, ANYTHING, to get elected. He's got no morals and no real plans. He wants this election fought over Piggy Palin, not issues. He offers nothing to the American people. And as I've said, we're at a tipping point. This economy, our fragile status internationally, our military, our energy policy... None of these things can afford to wait FOUR MORE YEARS. But selfish prick Repugs want to be able to keep their pennies while the rest of the country goes to hell. And if you believe for one minute that DB actually voted for anyone other than W in the last two elections, I've got some swamp land... Republicans lie. He's a liar. And I'm not going to sit back and coddle him because we expect and accept that type of thing from Republicans. This whole "it's what they do" attitude is what got us where we are today. If I see someone bullshit someone I call them on it. This is a micro level response. And Obama is doing so on a macro level. Kerry ran out of money in 2004 because he accepted public financing. Obama was smarter than that. And the gloves are now off. I said weeks ago this was going to be the ugliest campaign we've ever seen. People said "no way man, McCain has too much integrity". LOL! He's put ads on the air that are 100% false and they don't even bother to try to deny it! They don't care! They just hope they can keep up the facade for 50 more days and then they'll just be a "little bit pregnant." McCain didn't care that his running mate is completely and totally unqualified. It made political sense to pick her so he did. These ads may be effective to the dopes who were going to vote for him anyway. But he's given up on appealing to moderates. And that was where this election was going to be won or lost. I'm not worried in the slightest. Obama has this covered. I simply refuse to believe that simple minds will be easily deceived, yet again. Although, I guess we see one simpleton here who contradicts my belief so, I suppose, anything is possible.
  6. I fight fire with fire. Look at his posts and tell me I'm being unfair. Hell, I only checked this thread out again because I saw your post! Damn it! Quit pulling me back in!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. You're arguing with a moron.
  8. Amen brother. It's early, there's a long way to go, but your comments are spot on. I think we have the O Line as a continuing concern and injuries can always play a role, but if you have to go by what we saw in game one, I'd say this thing is "fixed" at least for now.
  9. Yes. The way I understand the CBA, we had to wait until after game one was in the books before signing a vet. Otherwise his entire salary would've been gauranteed. So, basically we got Miller for the minimum and we can cut him and not have any future salary ramifications. If Miller is healthy and really steps in and plays well, it'll make Williams a guy we can red shirt and get healthy for next season.
  10. Doesn't the restraining order I filed require you not to respond to me online? OK, I agree... and your analogy was funnier too. But I'm not sure Miller is completely worthless (an old bald tire) if used appropriately. I guess "getting home" will be when the kid is healthy mid-season, hopefully.
  11. I guess we're going to find out. Two other teams thought he had enough "in the tank" to chase him and he doesn't even know their offenses. Not saying they were right to chase, hell if I know, but this suggests he's at least got good marketing. Maybe if you use him in a rotation he'll be OK. I doubt you'll find anyone on this board who loves Fred Miller. That said, doesn't look like there were many other options out there at this point and we need the help at tackle. If my car had a flat and all I could find was a purple tire... I'd buy the fricken thing and get myself home.
  12. Don't worry, Bush and Cheney will be gone in a few months.
  13. I'll just stick with my original prediction. By the way, I just want to warn some of you internet fans jumping on the bandwagon after one game, be careful... You could get whiplash. I'm sure some of you ladies predicting 12-4 this week will be saying 2-14 on Sunday if we lose. "I'm not a football expert, I just play one on the internet." - half the members of talkbears.com
  14. Correct. I have no clue if he will or won't be with the team later this year, next year or two years from now. He looks like a poised guy with potential. I'm glad we kept him too. Time will tell if he has what it takes to challenge for #1 or #2 on this team. My hope is Orton continues to show he's got what it takes and we're only looking for a #2 at the end of this season (which assumes Grossman will be allowed to look elsewhere.)
  15. I've tried to include links for you wherever possible. Enjoy! This is right in the area: http://www.yelp.com/biz/kitty-o-sheas-chicago I've always had a good time there but yuo'll see a few bad reviews at yelp so consider that before you commit. Within walking distance is Harry Carays. They have great food and a bar were you can catch the game. From O'Hare, use the train. If you're going downtown it makes complete sense and will save you a lot of money. Downtown the food is all going to be a bit pricey. You can get a great Italian Beef at Luke's in the west part of the loop. Try the Combo which adds an Italian Sausage to an Italian beef. Add giardinare for a little spice! For dinner one night, although it runs $50 a head for adults, try Fogo de Chao. One of my favorite restaurants. I also like Italian Village. On a clear day head to the top of the Hancock Building. I like it better than the view from the Sears Tower. You can get anywhere downtown in a cab or by walking. I've not recommended anywhere outside the loop so if you don't head anywhere too distant, renting a car won't be necessary. If you get near Wrigley Field, check out Yak-Zies for a great burger and other "finer" foods. All the best!
  16. Oh, I believe you. You NEEEEEVER voted for shrub...
  17. It was cool. I'm not sure how our defense gets credit for Orton's QB rating, as some suggest. I guess they kept the other QB's lower but regardless, I'll take a steady mid-80's from our QB all day long. Thanks for the info.
  18. We were all concerned. Hell, this is the NFL, we should be worried each and every week. But some here, not you to my knowledge, feel this is the proper forum to dump all of their worst case scenarios. Fine, if some need psychological help, I understand. We're there for you... But damn, get a friggen grip! And then when some of those negative folks are confronted by others who aren't so negative, we're the ones called delusional and kool-aid drinkers. Well, you know what!?!?! Again, not specifically directed at you Chile, I think you're cool, but those folks, IMO, don't have the right to be happy. If you put all your energy into ripping the organization from top to bottom for the last 6 weeks instead of having a little faith, I say screw you. Go root for the Packers.
  19. Again, it's classless for you to not eat crow. You don't bitch and moan all preseason about the team and then get to postpone your just due for a week after the team you BITCHED about just defeated one of the best in the league IN THEIR HOUSE. "I'll reserve judgment..." BWAAAAAAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA..... How great it must be to just be able to blow off all that bullshit said in the past with a simple pen stroke. So are you saying you'll turn back into a pumpkin of the Bears don't win again next week? This is the freakin NFL; girls, not tiddly winks. More often than not, you lose to good teams on the road. PERIOD. And I'm not saying you have to believe they're Superbowl bound at this point. Championships aren't won in week one of the season. But with that said, this was a tremendous win to start the year and you can DAMN WELL bet that if the Bears didn't win, you and a bunch of others, not naming names, would be posting thread after thread about how bad we suck and how we need to kill Lovie and JA. It's friggen pathetic.
  20. What it ought to suggest to both of you is that it's best to taste your food before piling salt on it.
  21. One - Makes you look silly now, doesn't it? Two - All of you chicken littles calling for Lovie's head or Babbich's head before WEEK ONE ought to have the common sense to eat crow and STFU. Three - JA and Lovie are joined at the hip. They'll go down together if necessary because they have a lot more class than a bunch of windsock internet fans who one week think the team is going 2-14 and then jump on the bandwagon with both feet the next. You could get whiplash that way fellas.
