I don't disagree with you as to the "similarly rated" idea. However... Jeff Otah - "he might be a liability as a left tackle" Gosder Cherilus - "proved in 2007 that he lacks the lateral agility and kick-slide to handle speed moves on the outside and will be a better fit at right tackle or inside at guard" Sam Baker - "lacks ideal lateral range" and his list of injuries is fairly long Duane Brown - "he struggled out on an island on the left side" "would be better served returning to the right side" Sound like they all come with some sort of risk and none of them were LT caliber. Oh, and notice the last few lines on this page about Chris Williams. I know ProFootballTalk says several teams took him off their boards because of this old injury but since when are they credible? Apparently they knew something NFL.com missed. Obviously the guy had an old injury and obviously the Bears took a chance, but I don't think you can say for sure that they had Williams "similarly rated" with these other OT's who went in round one. And then there's this... Injury Report No injuries reported.

I don't think many here will argue with the main points of the article. But let's not forget that Morrissey is the new Skip Bayless of the paper. His job is to throw shit against the fan, piss people off and sell papers. Much of the critism of Lovie could be applied to 30 other coaches in the NFL. Only they haven't been nearly as successful as Lovie has in a short period of time. I agree, I'd love to see him grab a facemask on the sideline and yell at someone, ONCE. I'd love to see him hold his coordinators more accountable. I think he's a quiet leader and his style has worked for the most part. But the article is right that, it appears, his guys are taking him for granted now, and he needs to use a little more "stick" than "carrot" at this point with this team.

How often would a player appreciate being catagorized that way?

I heard this morning he's got a fumbling problem.

I'm not a doctor. I never claimed to be one. But hearing all the expertise here about how Angelo was a complete idiot regarding a 3 or 4 year old herniated disc was inspirational. It inspired me to do a quickie Google of the terms "herniated disc recovery". Well, I'll be damned if the first full page isn't full of free information on how exercise is the number one cure. Dumb Jerry, he should've known better! This Williams guy hasn't been exercising or playing football or anything for the last three seasons! DOH! You guys know everything about everything! Fire Jerry and hire this board! Go Bearshhhhhh!!!!!!!!

I feel honored. If I weren't swamped right now in the office I'd probably debate a few of your points. Maybe later...

I think the article quoting JA makes this all clear. You really ought to read the papers, son. All of this is readily available out there on the internets... LINK "The good news is Williams had the stitches removed Thursday and has already started working out. Bream told him he's ahead of schedule." "I want to put the pedal to the metal but they won't let me," Williams said. "They're making me take it pretty slow and be pretty consistent. The healing time is something that you can't speed up. But with that being said, I can do a lot of things as far as gaining my strength back, I can do upper body, I can do lower body, I can do just about everything working my core."

Thanks Pix. I'm going to have nightmares tonight...

In a rare show of support for NFO, I offer this... When your D in general is giving up lots of yardage on the ground, teams aren't passing much on 3rd down. Hence, little need for nickle.

Every one of them has taken a risk. And every one of them has busts of their own. (Even though clearly Williams is far from a bust at this point.) All the articles I'm reading about the back situation is he's ahead of schedule. I'm not a doctor. He played on this "chronic" back problem for 4 years and kicked major ass doing so... How good can the guy be with it repaired? Of course, he and the Bears could be lying about his recovery too. I know there are members here who will always take the side that allows them to rip Jerry or the Bears in general. Not saying you're one of them, Mongo. Just don't know what to say to all the negativity around here anymore.

Who is looking like shit in Green Bay right now. I'm not being a smartass, just trying to point out what a crapshoot all of this is.

OOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGGGGZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't read the article as a "Covering his ass" scenario. I see it as someone trying to clear the air.

Sadly, not enough of the country seems to care that we're at war in Iraq.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3551359 Chris Mortensen article: The Arizona Cardinals are expected to name Kurt Warner as the team's starting quarterback, a team source said Sunday. BUT BUT BUT... I THOUGHT FIRST ROUND PICKS WERE A SCIENCE AND JERRY WAS JUST A DOOFUS!!! OMGZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!

Yep. Risk/Reward. Moss slipped to 20th. Happens every year. People take chances on character issues, health concerns, signability, etc.

Someone on the chat that evening referred to him as "Cuttis".

This sounds good when preaching on the internet but ain't how things work in the real world. And, I'll add, if his back is made 100% by this operation and he turns out to be our LT for the next 8 years, how foolish will shortsighted internet fans look? The guy was the last LT on the board. Period. He'd been playing with it at a level that warranted his being a first round pick. I still think Jerry owed everyone the truth from the beginning.

People seem to be missing these key parts of the story: "It wasn't affecting me so if nothing is broke, you don't fix it." He first learned he had a herniated disc "probably three, four years ago." So, he had an injury and played with it, not missing time, for YEARS. I'm sorry, our GM is named Angelo, not God. Like you Connor, my only question on this is why they tried to spin it.

My take is the coaching and the players have been playing heartless football for a while now. They've convinced themselves they're a #1 D when they walk onto the field and if they don't acheive that level of performance, well, there are excuses for it. Frankly, this is when the coaches need to go all "Ditka" on the team and punch of few lockers, if not a few players! Missing tackles on Defense is about the same in my mind as missing a blocking assignment on O. It shouldn't happen at this level. These are professionals and those two aspects of football are the BASICS. Everything else is built on that foundation. So, if the players don't get their damn heads out of their asses and the coaches can't find ways to force them to do so, it's time for some new coaches and/or players. I'm not sure where that self-satisfaction is coming from but I fear it's becoming a cancer. These coaches have this season to prove they can get the job done, as far as I'm concerned, before fans like me start calling for their heads. These highly paid "leaders on the field" better stop playing like bitches with their panties full of poop. We're all tired of the excuses here. Lovie is a defensive guy, he damn well better get his house in order.

Not sure what you mean when you say "typical bears make starts outta jackasses". Are the Bears letting you start?
