I was wondering why I kept getting these error messages for ‘time Zones’. I know I’m in Alaska but geez. Lol Thank you guys for keeping this thing going. I second what Adam says and if there are donations needed for anything, let me know. Do you guys have a way to get ahold of members if for some reason the site disappeared altogether?

For the sake of arguement, I would think if I payed a player $5 million / year he’d do better than what both McPhee and Demps have done in Chicago the last year or two. The average salary in the NFL is roughly $1.9 million. *Forbes. And for context, until last year stud Akiem Hicks was averaging ~$3.9 million / year. So ‘yes’, I’d say if a player is getting about $5 million per, he should be producing. And the GM should be properly identifying the players that are capable of earning it. You remember this is the same guy that let AJ go to a Super Bowl Team last year in exchange for players like Wheaton, White and Bellamy.

So slowly but surely the team is ridding itself of poor FA choices made by Pace?

I’m with you. I can’t help but think of the word ‘fools gold’ when I think of Fuller doing either a multi-year deal or getting Franchised. Of the time he’s been here he’s been equally bad as he’s been good. And the ‘good’ was mediocre at best. Of the years he’s been here; he’s been ‘good’ for one or two, missed most of the other seasons and had a shitty attitude about playing on the team a few years back. I get why he did better last year and that had to do with his contract year. I’m just concerned if we commit he’ll be good only when it suits him. Is Franchising him the best option? Maybe. But I still don’t like it.

Because I was curious what Fabuluje was up to these days, turns out he was released after only one year with the team, and being suspended for four games for PEDs. He’s currently listed on the roster of the AFLs Baltimore Brigade. *wikipedia.

Of the OL options, I like this the best. With Pace’s record of drafting Olinemen so far don’t know that I’d be keen on him using a 1st or even 2nd rounder on another. What are the plans for Grasu and Fabuluje (sp?)

Ultimately I could see Chicago drafting an ILB early on. But couldn’t help notice both Navarro Bowman and Ahmad Brooks are current UFAs (both familiar to Fangio). And just over $1 million more than Freeman for both. Another former 49er available is Brandon Coyle although I’m not sure he and Fangio were at the same place at the same time. Other names of interest; Brian Cushing and Derrick Johnson. Edit: upon further reading, Cushing is too costly and pretty much a duplicate of Freeman (injury and PEDs). Saw that the Rams Mark Barron could be a cap casualty there due to the Rams wanting to keep Alec Olgetree. Barron (an alum of Alabama - always a plus) came out as Safety to begin with. Hmmm...that’s worked well for others.

I would agree that the OL is important but probably not as much as dedicating the first round pick for it. But that’s just me. This thread was focused more on WRs which I hold in higher regard when it comes to draft picks.

Well if you’re familiar with Jason and my discussion on OL, you’ll know I don’t place as high a value on them as he does. I’m more a skill player = higher value guy. Many this year said the Eagles had the best oline in the NFL. Of those that ended the season only one was drafted in the first round; Lane Johnson. The rest are made up of 2nd, 3rd, 6th round draftees and even an UDFA in Jason Peters. Who not only is/was arguably their best Olineman, he started out as a TE in the league. Comparatively the Dallas Cowboys were chock full of first round picks and potential and where are they? Two seasons ago Tony Romo got injured behind that line and this year with Zeke sitting on the sidelines no one else seemed to be able pick up the slack. One would assume if the oline was so good, couldn’t they just as soon have anyone put up yards from the backfield? I dunno myself, I’m just asking. Looking at our own oline; yes we’ve had a history of issues drafting first round talent (Carimi and Williams) but more recently we’ve seen our current 1st rounder (Long) struggle just to stay on the field as of late. So I guess a case could be made we’ve made a miss at oline just like we did with White. Continuing the thought of our oline, I think it depends on what style offense does Nagy plan on employing? Will be lean more towards the zone blocking scheme? That makes more sense with the way Howard runs and Trubisky is mobile. If that’s the case then Sitton and Long or even Whitehead may not be the answer. To do zone blocking effectively you need movile interior linemen and I’m not sure all these guys are up to the task. Whitehead maybe but where; Center or guard? That being said I could see them valuing an olineman in the earlier rounds or just as possible in later rounds. Or maybe in FA? Hell maybe there’s some UDFA TE out there looking for a job as OT.

No mention of Inman. Where does he figure in? And why would we not be considering Ridley at #8? Given if one of the big targets FAs you mentioned are signed I could potentially see less need to draft an WR at #1 but I’m still curious. My guess is Nagy will use a variation of WCO (hopefully with some zone style mixed in) which normally calls for smaller framed WRs. But realistically you almost always have to have at least one big body WR in the lineup (see former Bear and SB champ A. Jeffrey). Yes I know White is big but I’m still not convinced he’ll manage to play a full year. Same for Meredith. He’s so far only had one decent year and will trying to come back from a pretty severe injury. Wright has just about as good shot, of not more, than the rest to make it. He proved he was a good add IMHO.

In this highlight I noticed he played outside corner for the CFL. One thing in his favor is that the CFL is a pass happy league, so he was tested often. He looks to have to a pretty decent vertical. Makes me think a lot of Tim Jennings who wasnt all that horrible and not all that tall himself at 5’8”.

Yes I know it was awhile ago. Haven’t been here in awhile and saw the talk of prospective CBs. But I thought it interesting that it was shortly after Nagy was hired and shortly before Fangio re-upped. Indicating at some level both (or at least one) coaches endorsed it. And for what it’s worth, although I can’t attest to the likeliness of Amerson being signed I agree mostly with what else you wrote below. Makes sense.

Gotta love your optimism... Pace a “beast” you say? Might be a bit early to call him that but if you do..you do. As Bowling says about karma I’d hope that whomever Indy hires (hear they are looking at Philly’s Reich) ends up with a better overall HC record than does McDaniels. And should McCaniels become the Pats HC, the Colts totally walk away (see humiliates) from them in their games.

Preach brother. One factor I like about Nagy is he’s not McDaniels. Had the Bears hired that a-hole i would’ve had a hard time staying interested in the Bears for awhile.

With regards to WRs and maybe TEs, I’d suggest the Bears will be looking for cast offs or potential FAs from Philadelphia or KC. Maybe even any other ‘Reid coaching tree’ teams (Panthers, Bills, Jets or Ravens as ‘for examples’). But then again with Shurmer going back to being a HC there’ll be some competition for those type players. One name to think about might even be Deonte Thompson (last of the Bills). He’s a potential FA at less than $1 million and if some remember had a pretty good start with Trubisky. Was sort of surprised the team gave up on him.

Please don’t tell me you’re one of those ‘the Qb can do no wrong’ types. Trubisky’s completion rate was just 59.6% and in watching many of his games, he was clearly off a fair share of times. Sure the receivers he had were not the best but I’d disagree they were the worst we’ve ever seen. Yep, can only wait and see.

Trubisky was the 3rd QB? You mean to convince me they actually planned on playing Sanchez? The point about Meredith / Trubisky was more the continuity aspect. I’m as sure as you are that neither one interacted at any time last year. They held practices where I’m sure or at least certain they crossed paths at least once. Remember Trubisky was drafted to be the ‘future of the franchise’.

It seems a bit pretentious of you to guarantee anything. Return maybe, but play? Let alone a full season. Of the 4-5 receivers discussed in the last few paragraphs who has performed the most in the last two years? Meredith would have an edge (only slightly over Inman) for his 2016 performance, but he will be returning from a pretty significant knee injury. And White? Well....you said it.

Couple of thoughts. First thing, continuity. Yes there will be a new offensive scheme but Trubisky has been working with the current batch of WRs for most or part of last year. And of those, at least three (Meredith, Inman and Wright) have proven to be worthy receivers. IMHO Second thought is we had a soradic passing game last year. Partly due to our QB not having a heck of a lot of experience. Saying ALL our receivers are garbage probably isn’t completely true. I wouldn’t think a complete overhaul is needed. Draft one maybe two and pay one or two more through FA then let camp sort them out.

I’m still curious why our team wouldn’t/shouldn’t consider keeping Inman(?) Not knowing his contract obligations his numbers are comparable (some say better) to Meredith ... minus the recent knee injury.

Out of curiosity; why not keep Inman? In addition to or instead of Meredith?
