I used to hold credence to veteran leadership even if that players skill level wasn't what it once was. Urlacher to me was the epitome of that type player. Most here may not have liked him as a player or person but behind closed doors and on the field something tells me that he led as he should have. The fact that Briggs not only played with the guy and witnessed it first hand but then when thrust into the role to do the same and fell on his face? Disgraceful. You know as I read this one person I'm kinda feeling bad for is Peanut. Peanut and Briggs were drafted at the same time yet due to health issues Tillman hasn't been able to get on the field as much as he had. The guy was in tears when he learned yet again he'd probably be off the field due to injury. Yet there he has been every game since. Not only cheering for the sidelines but coaching his eventual replacement. That Mr Briggs is class and that is how you do it. I hope that if Tillman can do it he can return for one more year and put this year and the example Briggs has shown behind him. He deserves one last shot at a good season.

Well I guess its nice and all that he admitted to it but how do you explain the other 48 pts scored? And the fact that Tucker chimed into Lance's self evaluation the way he did shows his lack of character. Befits his lack of leadership. And how do you explain Eddie Lacy running roughshod for 60-70 yards without hardly anyone touching him? And so on and so on.....

I don't think "catering" to Jay is the point here. The point is that Emery (based on the recommendation of Trestman - presumably) made a big mistake of signing Jay long term (c'mon two more years of Jay is considered long term) and to big money. Instead of taking the financial hit see what someone like Shannahan can do with him. We just discussed last week how we mostly liked the idea of zone blocking and Jay having a moving platform from which to throw. Why not give the coach who had the most success with Jay give it a shot? (by the way, did they actually do any of the moving pocket they said they'd try during the GB game?). And if that doesn't work, sit Cutler and look to trade him later. Either at the end of year two or before. Depending on what you can get. Which at this point might be a 7th round pick and a back up punter . But then we also need a new punter too so there is that. The other option is can Cutler (trade or whatever) and pay a veteran at a lower cost (hello McCown?) while drafting for a newer QB.

So who was it that mocked some for commenting on Cutler's appearance to not look at the surface/iPad thingy between plays? Hmmmm... And one other I'd like to add; McCown. Not only was he obviously bothered by the loss this last week in TB, but he could be seen on the sidelines right after TB had taken the lead screaming at players words of encouragement. That is the character of leadership we are missing. He may not be the best QB in the league ... But damn how I hate he was let go last year.

Although we haven't a lot of opportunities to see Clausen play in this offense with some that he has played, mostly in preseason, I don't feel as convinced as I did seeing McCown play last year. I would be interested in seeing Fales give it a shot. Since he was essentially drafted by and for Trestman. How does he handle this offense? Does he have a noodle arm or is he pretty accurate? What do we need for a QB at this point ? Cannon arm or game manager?

Understood. I'll probably do the same in the spirit of cancer awareness. With my sister and two other friends being diagnosed with breast cancer and a very good friend of mine recently passing from stomach cancer, not enough can be done to try and stop it. I'll contribute $50 every month if I have to.

Perhaps the simplelist thing to do at this point is can both Trestman and Tucker. Promote Kromer to interim HC and Herring or Pasquolini (sp?) to DC. Then if things continue to tank clean house in the off season. Oh and boot DeCamilis no matter what. Maybe some HC ST coach has some better ideas and would be willing to finish out the season.?.??

He'll id be ok if they traded straight up Cutler for McCown. And a 5th round pick.

There are plenty of reasons to dislike Cutler . That just happens to be one. I think for Trestman to have a chance at success he needs to cut ties with Cutler. P

I think that's the issue. Cutler is NOT a pocket passer. He doesn't have the vision (or patience) to 'stand tall' in the pocket and go through his progressions. Hasn't been comfortable doing it and after nine years (some of it trying to be a pocket passer) without lasting effectiveness, he needs to try something that might work better. The one year he had as Pro Bowler was with the zone blocking scheme that Shannahan employed in Denver. I'm fairly confident the younger players on the line; Long, Ola and Mills can adapt. Most of these guys have experience at Guard where a lot times you are asked to pull on trap blocks. Zone blocking is a little easier where you're shuffling right or left (with the rest of line) depending on the call. And since the team is essentially using a variant of WCO then it makes sense to try and do this.

Most of what you said has already been discussed, as has the George-Cutler comparison. However, and with what TD pointed out, one win will not settle this for him. I don't think that was exactly your point but to expand upon this. I agree that if he cuts down on the INT's (specifically the dumb ones) AND he's able to consistently play good games and not do this Jekyll and Hyde thing then we're onto something. Maybe this change of his passing out of the pocket will be what helps him. I really do hope.
