I get what he's saying and have to agree. Jay has been like that for years. Even did it when they brought in that QB coach he liked from Denver, whatever his name was. The fact that each time you see him on the sideline he looks like he's day dreaming or something is a bit disturbing. He has the opportunity to review the previous series and just sits there staring off into space. Now the fact that we see it on TV doesn't necessarily mean that he's doing it all the time but the fact he is when we do is telling.

AZ, don't think anyone is talking a mutiny just that we're frustrated with how things are shaking out. As has been pointed out the offensive players are 'making bank' and not showing much for it. While on the D, comprised a lot of first year players and one exceptionally old one (and being led by a twit of a coordinator) aren't doing horribly but could improve. My labeling as a 'Cutler hater' early on is starting to ring true. Although I'm really not a hater per se, just an expecter. I expected that with the change of Head Coach, change of offensive philiospophy, change of GM and for all intents and purposes change of D, I'd see something more of an overall change...for the better . So far it's been meh. To put things into perspective, Lovie was .500 in his first two seasons (5-11 in '04 and 11-5 in '05) so there is still hope that Trestman could do at least that well. So far Trestman is just one or two games below .500 so all hope is not lost. I just think a lot needs to be done with the QB position. Whether it be sit him, trade him (someday) or rebuild him, we need better and consistent play from him. *edit: one last negative comment. I couldn't help but notice you believe the team has markedly improved in the time Trestman and Emery have taken over. Lest I remind you that the team was 10-6 ( just barely out of playoffs) when Lovie left.
-
I think Trestman deserves at least one more year. He and Emery need to do a "no shit" honest analysis of Cutler and decide if they can continue with him after this year. Bad thing about losing Cutler probably means a lot of re-building on offense. So goes Cutler so too will Marshall, and maybe even Jeffery etc.

Believe me when I say I really still hope he somehow is able to pull it out. I've heard many times the comparisons to Romo and Cutler (pretty average for lots of money). Romo is starting to show his worth, if only a little . Can Cutler too? I would like to think so. Not a lot of faith but I'll still pull for him while he's the starter. On that note; you think Lovie'd be willing to trade for McCown and a 1st or second round pick?
-
Question now is can he pull out a last minute drive for a TD? Edit: Nope.

Damn, was hoping not to see Jekyll but damn!
-
Well, here's where we see whether the potion goes into effect or not. Please stay with us Jekyll.
-
So far so good. Dr Jekyll is playing today. So far... ... There is that one Int... I know you'll say it's BMs fault. And the D is doing their part

SWEET WILLIE YOUNG!!!! I'm now the founder if the 'Alaskans for WY' fan club! Where do I get a jersey?

Don't insult Grossman like that. He at least has won a playoff game and played in the SB for the Bears. In other news: Ola looks to be struggling out on LT.

Like in an earlier post, I read that Briggs was frustrated by the lack of blitzing calls. He knew what we saw. You're probably right that they (Tucker) didn't want to dedicate someone to blitzing knowing that one person out of position would allow Lacy a field day. Look at what happened to Minny the other night. They rushed Rodgers more than the Bears did and Lacy did much better . There had got to be a balance. I say with all these mobile QBs (yes I consider Rodgers to be one) you need a spy back to watch the QB and the QB only. Unfortunately the only one whose really been effective in doing this, SMC, is out. May not be as much an issue this week as Newton is hobbled but still a concern. Maybe Bostic could cover the spot? We know he can hit. I'm just not sure he's able to dissect plays very well .
-
I saw what you did there... You're right, I'd prefer Jay not get hurt. I am curious why Leno isn't being considered but what you say makes sense. Ola having game time experience does sound better than bringing in a raw guy. I'm not so sure the Bushrod injury is as sinister as some are making it . I saw his interview and he didn't look like he was lying about what happened, probably just doesn't want to reveal the extent of the injury. He's walking limp free, boot free so it can't be too bad. *edit: read an article and saw that he is wearing a boot but no surgery . Sounds like he was " rolled up" on by someone. He's relieved it wasn't anything "crazy" (meaning extensive injury) but probably scared him a little when it happened. Again , probably doesn't want to speak on how extensive right now.

Why not Leno I wonder? 'Damn' on Bushrod getting hurt!

That...was well put. Bravo sir.

Greg Cosell is revered in his industry. You can look him up if you don't know, I'm sure you can operate google or Wikipedia. I was wrong earlier about his relation to Howard. He's actually his nephew not his son... Anyhow. So now that Trent "Corndog" Dilfer has changed his tune, suddenly he speaks gospel? Interesting. I'll give you this ; I agree with others when they say Jay probably has one of the best (if not the best) NATURAL talent for a QB in the NFL. I'll even concede that he appears, at times, to be improving in his mechanics . (It's unfortunate that he's taken nine years to do it). But I can't get over the boneheaded game time choices he makes. Time and again he kills the team with the sudden emergence of Mr Hyde and makes desperation throws and tries to do when others hesitate. Is it tunnel vision in the face of adversity? Perhaps . All I know is I won't be content until he proves himself worthy in the money the team paid him. Not just for "getting better" in four games, but rather winning at least a playoff game. Then maybe I'll be an apologist rather than a "hater".

The word you're looking for is mediocre . Similar to Cutler. Similar to the D run by Tucker . The catalyst for O is not BM (Bennett anyone? Having a better year). The catalyst for O is definitely Cutler. For D .. Again it's Tucker.
-
Even if he (Graham) was in the middle he still had safety help on Bennett's side. Nothing on BM and or AJ. Plain and simple. Historically, meaning most of his nine years (not two - actually 1.4 years). And really he only played in 9-10 games last year so the "Bears" stats for red zone conversions were not Cutler's stats. If anyone they're Trestman stats.
-
I think you misunderstood what Cosell was saying. He said Cutler is a "see it throw it" type of QB and that Trestman is working with him on being a better pocket passer. An element of that being able to "trust" the timing of the play. Whether Bennett ran the wrong route or Cutler "trusted" the timing, he should have been able to see the other alternatives (or progressions) on this particular play. Looking at the screen shots and others from that play it's very clear that of the three receivers on that side of the field; Bennett, Marshall and Jeffery, Bennett was the last one he should have thrown to. Looking at the photo, Graham was pretty committed to coverage on Bennett from the outset. And he had safety help on the back end...on that same area of coverage. Even if Bennett had hooked in, at best he would have gotten a minimal gain because of that coverage. Of course assuming that Bennett would have even caught it. Look at Marshall and his positioning. No one to the high and right. Perfect position for a fade or jet type of throw or outside shoulder along the sidelines. If thrown poorly ( not including under thrown) the worst that would happen is that it would go out of bounds. Perhaps the third progression (or check down) would have been AJ standing all alone in the flat. If thrown to him he probably could have easily gotten as far as Bennett would have IF he had done the hook. The first time I saw this play I thought it was initially called to be a WR bubble screen with AJ catching it and BM and Bennett blocking. But what appears to have happened is Cutler saw something that made him call an audible that involved one or both of the double receivers to run a fly pattern. Maybe Bennett was supposed to hook but again the coverage favored his route so progression 2 and 3 should have been looked at. What Cossell said about Cutler being a "see it throw it" type QB is actually pretty accurate. He reverted to his old habits late in the GB game and it turned out to be a pretty shoddy showing. His history as a bad red zone QB proves that since a lot of his INTs have come from there. Because he believes, as a "gunslinger", he can force it into tight coverage. If he learned anything, he would know that if there is tight coverage ( or double or triple) that means someone, somewhere else is open. If not, out of bounds is always an option.
-
Really? You think Jay had NOTHING to do with the one Int you claim BM was at fault for? I haven't heard Trestman talk about it but don't imagine he'd sacrifice Jay if he'd made the mistake. The point again that I made was that of the two Int that Jay threw, not missed on the receiving end, ended up translating to scores for GB. That was two more opportunities they might not have had to score and were definitely two less opportunities our team had. He won't make 40 TDs. Don't kid yourself.
-
And without some of the mistakes he made against Buffalo, they should have one that too. That's the point I've been making. And in regards to 'home field', it's the place you play half your 16 games and have access to pretty much whenever you need. I don't care if the fans are bone heads (or whatever you called them) shouldn't be a factor.
-
I'll agree in the leadership role. I think he has improved in that category. From what I've heard, what Dilfer says is pretty accurate in that regard. But his mechanics? Improved? Really? Greg Cosselle, son of Howard, observed this. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/shutdown-cor...-211010180.html

How do you explain Rodgers winning it for GB when obviously Lacy was not a factor? And their D, for the most part, was almost as inept as ours? If not for Jay they wouldn't have had two additional scoring opportunities.
