This and “Fields hasn’t even played a full season yet” are spot on. You mentioned the quick underneath routes and timing routes need to be mixed in for Justin to succeed more. Perhaps with Getsy having a handful of years with Rodgers he’s expecting Justin to be more like him now. Instead he should do the ‘crawl, walk, run’ method with his game planning. I’m not at all suggesting he keep him in “Football 101” for 2-3 years (like Trubisky) but coach him up a little better and not assume he’s where Rodgers was at last year.

Had to edit my last post…forgot Detroit won a game too. Just goes to show ‘any given Sunday(Monday/Thursday)’. -

After tonight, the Bears are in a four way tie for the division lead. ? -
I think Gordon played mostly nickel last night. I’d prefer we see him more on the outside and Vildor (or someone else) inside.

You’re letting the post-Packer-loss-Monday-blahs get the best of you. There is no way Fields is worse than Trubiksy…in the long run. As far as his passing technique, they mentioned that last night. This year brought on a whole new foot placement compared to what he’s been doing his whole career. Doing that can knock things out of whack enough it may take some time to adjust. His work ethic paired with his talent, he’ll figure it out.

I could see the team at 6-6 (or better) by the time they see the Pack again in week 13. -

The only stat that GB beat the Bears in was Receiving yards and TDs. GB had 203 total rushing yards to the Bears 180. When you consider they have two starting caliber RBs and our team right now has one, that 23 yards difference really isn't that huge. Montgomery had 122 yards (8.1 avg) to Jones 132 yds (8.8 avg). Jones also had one TD to Montgomery's zero. If you compare the "second RBs" it was Herbert's 38 yds (9.5 avg) to Dillon's 61 yds (3.4 avg). To me the fact the Bears didn't run more is what hurt them in the end. This was something we all harped on last year especially when we saw Nagy abandon it way too often and force the pass. As we saw in the SF game, you have to have the run game work in order for the pass game to become a factor. If you don't you become one-dimensional. As far as the difference between TDs and Receiving yards, that's basically comparing Rodgers to Fields. For what its worth, they were both sacked the same amount of times (3) but Aaron has more experience in reading defenses and knowing where his receivers will be and how to exploit coverage weaknesses (aka rookie CBs) versus Fields' relative inexperience. Something to remember, Rodgers was not considered the starting QB for GB until 2008, three years after he was drafted in 2005. (How old was Fields in 2008?) Fields and the "baby Bears" (as Tirico kept referring to them last night - I don't like it by the way) have a lot of growing to do. The next few weeks play to their favor as far as schedules go. And like Stinger said, I'd rather compare the last half the season to the first half to see the growth the team makes. -

Gorton had a tough night. They exploited him. He had a few good plays but a few tough ones too. The run d was nearly non-existent. Gipson backed up his trash talk with 2 sacks and nearly a third, but not the win. Both the Bears and Packers are 1-1. GB plays TB next and the Bears play Houston. -

This I would agree with. If Justin is able to put up similar stats each year I’d agree he’s the better of the two. Justin has more mobility and just the little sample he showed last week, pretty good read of the field. I think Herbsret mentioned the other night that it took a year or two for Herbert to start actually getting his progressions. Seems to be that Justin is doing that pretty well already.
-
I’d rather see how Fields does in year two before I think he’s better than Herbert. Herbert threw in the neighborhood of 4,300 yard his rookie year and just over 5,000 last year. His play last night was really gritty, especially at the end (I have no doubt Justin is too). That pick six he threw last night was a calamity of errors. The play previous TE Everett had made a huge gain then immediately was trying to get off the field when he got up from the tackle. But because they were in hurry up, he went back in and didn’t run a great route. Either the coach or Herbert should’ve realized he wasn’t ready to play, especially if they knew he was going to be the hot receiver. Maybe Herbert should’ve looked him off, maybe Everett should’ve sucked it up. ??♂️

Probably a different “interview”. His trash talk was repeated a few other places. As long as he backs it up on Sunday and keeps the pressure. I’d like for the Bears to be ‘dis-owned’ by Rodgers. -

Saw the posting about Oline analysis and was watching the clip where Jenkins helped knock down Bosa before going out to block another player. In it you can see Equanimous St Brown (ESB) blocking his coverage at the end of the play. I've always been a fan of WRs who are willing to block. But with regards to good coaching and discipline I noticed ESB in another play last week where he provided a seal block while another player ran behind him. I believe it may have been during a punt return but as the returner (or other player) ran by ESB was engaged with his man but instead of face to face he had his back to him with his hands extended so as to what I assume was to avoid a blocking in the back or even holding penalty. Its little heads up plays like this that I think the coach (and maybe the player himself) will make a huge difference on overall success. From reading up on ESB not only is he an ok WR but also has a penchant for blocking too, and he likes working with Getsy. Add in that he's "pissed off" that GB let him go after last season, I'm curious to see how this next weekend goes for him. https://www.sportsmockery.com/chicago-bears/equanimeous-st-brown-is-furious-the-packers-cut-him-and-its-showing/

I felt the same way last year after GB got blown out by NO in their season opener 38-3. -
Curious what thoughts were on Eberflus’ request to change the sod on the field a week before the game? Granted it might’ve not been a big factor yesterday (or would it have been?) seems like it could be wise choice. Considering how crappy the fields been these last number of years.
-
Absolutely. While watching the game yesterday you could absolutely see the ‘night and day’ difference between the two halves of how Chicago played and between how better disciplined and conditioned the Bears were over the 9’ers . I believe SF had somewhere near 100 yards of penalties which, as one of the commentators pointed out, is a loss of 7 points on the field. I was concerned we wouldn’t see the teams full potential until about week 3 or 4 but this was indeed a pleasant surprise.

If they can keep pressure on Rodgers that will also be key. He was sacked 4 times today and they lost starter OG Runyan for concussion protocol. Bakhtiari was out today and maybe could play next week but he looks a shell of his former self. Had a third surgery on his knee this off-season and hasn’t played much since 2020. -
He looked WAY too calm in the second half and made those passes look easy . He was putting touch on the ball and throwing it exactly where he wanted. No panicked scrambling off center passes, just calm drops in the bucket.

Absolutely. This is gonna be key for the season. Bears are definitely in better shape right now. SF making lots of mistakes through penalties. And I take back what I said about Jackson! -

Maybe a bit early but I think I’m seeing where this extra tough practices are paying off, especially on D. They’re definitely not “loafing” after the offense scores. SF looked a little gassed on that last series.
