It's also interesting that the Bears were the only team that had two TE's mentioned...
  2. It could easily have been as simple as them handing him the playbooks and telling him to learn both because you never know where you'll be needed. I think he was considered a FS out of college with questions about his speed. But, it was genarally thought that his instincts and playmaking ability would still place him in the FS skill-set. Amen to the 1st. On the 2nd, I think they were looking for a place DM didn't suck.
  3. Personally, my black friends would be offended if called them by anything more than friend. That being said, the scenario of her saying "black friend", implies a mutual understanding between father and daughter that there are known and agreed upon racist activities in the area. In other words, the picture of that lone word told the entire story. I live in the Indianapolis area and it is well percieved in the "black" community that a higher than usual amount of black people are pulled over after dark for suspicious reasons. They simply say, I got another DWB "driving while black". On the other hand, it could be an ingeniously crafted scenario to proactively cloud an offense that had yet to occur. I am really interested to see if there some provable timelines to all of this.
  4. Screw Kiper and the rest of the media. I still contend that unless a GM, coach or former GM comes out and flatly calls it a reach, it is not one. Forte in no way shape or form is or was considered a reach by the majority of this board and the talking heads that provide us entertainment. I'm sure if GM's were polled on the subject, hardly any if any at all would call him a reach.
  5. I have a feeling charges will be dropped in this case.
  6. They have even spoken of cough cough Metcalf being in the mix, saying he played with a broken hand. I tend to think they confused his hand with his hymen. Seriously, Metcalf is considered a power guard and hand punch is crucial at times. He still doesn't cut it with me. No way Steltz does anything at FS. My secret thought is that they drafted and will be grooming Bowman to play FS. Good size, great speed and leaping ability with the added of bonus as being a player with natural instincts.
  7. You are lucky you prefaced with this! LOL Don't make me school you on the Freeney argument again...
  8. Forte was not considered a reach.
  9. Agreed. I think Arch they had sitting there waiting for a Payne to show health or a new guy to be drafted. As far as him finding a job elsewhere... I think he's toast. Our D was supposed to tailored to his skill set and he flat out stunk.
  10. Sounds like you used to play the game. I believe most of this board spent their days mixing Gatorade.
  11. Oooh, that's cold. Just think Theisman and Montana. The odds are in our favor. To answer my own question, I'd maybe wait to make a play for Quinn that at the last minute if needed. If Anderson comes out firing, Quinns hold to the Brown's goes away. Cleveland would then cherish the extra picks. Money in the bank is usually better than speculated money.
  12. He didn't draft all of the, but he was responsible for their presence. Don't forget Gould and Ogun were damn good pickups.
  13. I caught draft recap with Dan Pompeii and he was saying the same thing regarding intelligence. He also went to say he had Williams as the #2 OT in the draft. He said, Williams won't be the physical specimen you go crazy over, but his technique and ability to play are superior.
  14. I like your comparison to Cromartie and honestly he compares physically to him. Bowman also finished up the year with a strong Bowl game, giving teams a snippet of his ability. One last thing, scouts are saying the same thing about Bowman as they did Peanut. He can become a very good FS if he doesn't make it as a corner. Isn't that the position we are desparate to upgrade? D Manning has no instincts and M Brown is all instincts and no consistent health. Bowman, only if healthy, has good instincts and superior athleticism to both. I'm all in for this pick in the 5th.
  15. All right, this is just for fun… Here are the scenario’s: 1) Trade future picks for Brady Quinn. What would it take? Maybe a 1st and a 4th. 2) Grab a veteran FA. I’ve heard Simms potentially mentioned, but Culpepper looks to be finally healthy. Here’s the ceiling and floor of it all. Quinn is an unknown by NFL standards, yet has the ability to become the franchise QB we have been dreaming of for decades. Pepp and Simms are damaged goods, but have the ability to become serviceable stop gaps with arguable skills possibly not adding up to Orton and Rex. You are the GM and the clock is ticking…
  16. Totally agree! There are hanful of QB's out there that are great on their own. Outside of that, they need help. It usually starts with a good to great OL, running game and a good defense. The QB's, TE's and WR's will become better as the sum of all parts are better.
  17. A video is out on ESPN.com with Mel Kiper and Todd McShay discussing the draft. Surprisingly, Kiper picked the Bears as the team that helped itself the most for this year. He also said we had the best UDFA signing in Caleb Hanie, saying he has an NFL arm and could be a quality starter in the future. You know me, I could give a crap what Kiper says, but it was nice to see the good pub.
  18. So drafting starters is short sighted??? That's what GM's get paid to do. You are killing me here. All GM's draft as if their life depended upon it. Only when you are on-lineHe said he thought the Safety could be a starter. He called the QB backup material. He went on to say the QB's were mediocre this year. Stop looking for the magic bullet.
  19. That was my whole pretense for calling BS on King. He said we were one of 3 teams he didn't like in the draft. No way were even bottom half.
  20. One - He has a steel plate in his lower ankle. Two - His carreer is on thin ice anyway. Three - the Bears are pathological liars when it comes to injuries. IE: Rueben Brown and others. Four - Lovie and JA have both called out Benson this off season. Why? Is he not re-habbing as well as he should. Is his psyche fragile and he's needing a kick in the ass. Have the doctors said he could have lost a step. FYI - I have heard medical opinion on this type injury. Not Benson's specifically, but very similar instances. Ankle flexion can be lost, as well as stability causing the delicate balance of power and nimbleness to be compromised. You say we have two young, healthy QBs. I say we have two unproven QBs who are not locked up for the long term. Our QBs position has been a question mark (at best) for a long time, and we have yet to see anything from Rex or Orton that should lead us to believe the position is solid. I am not saying we should believe Benson is a stud. My point is w/ the idea that we needed a RB more than a QB. How long have we searched for a QB? Who doesn't want it fixed? I just don't agree there was any future help past the 3rd round. Tad? That's like you claiming you could have turned the Titanic with a squirt gun. Still no. Hell no. Safety is easier to draft and expect to contribute on special teams, especially in the 4th round. Question. Who would you have drafted past the 3rd? Do you really feel Forte will contribute less than a QB would? Or do simply desire us to trade some picks to the 2nd and get Henne / Brohm?
  21. Foolishness huh? How about thinking QB is our greatest need? I haven't ever disagreed more with you or anyone else who thinks QB was our greatest need going into to this draft. No shit. Everyone thought it got addressed with Griese 2 yesrs ago. Remember when we went to the SuperBowl? Let me ask you a question. Was it bad draft because we didn't get a QB? IMO - saying yes is ignorant.
  22. I have no problem with King critcizing us for drafting a QB. I have stated in other posts that was wishing for Henne, somehow. But, in no means should the Bears draft be panned for NOT drafting a QB. Past Henne and Brohm, who could have helped us in the 3rd? IMO - it's bullshit, because the Bears solidly met offensive needs with their 1st 3 picks. Plus, free agency is not done yet.
  23. Pass the kool-aid Wesson!! Seriously, sometimes OL's take years to gell. With 40% changeover and Tait moving back to right may be a stumbling block. My hope is that Miller was so bad and Brown was so hurt it won't matter. The key is Williams. If he is a player, it works. If not, we'll be drafting early next year. I'm on the half full side. Totally agreed on the D, especially if M. Brown can contribute.
  24. Thank you! The title was quite enough. I'm looking for a possible starting OG, backup OT and 3rd QB. Possibly a WR, if they are high enough caliber.
