  1. Agreed on Johnson and the remaining thought process. However, ...drumroll please... Do you really think our cheap, I mean fiscally responsible management is going to pay top dollar for a coordinator. Remember they begrudgingly paid Lovie.
  2. The team and staff are not going to spend their time and effort arguing with Hampton. I love Hampton, but he tends to be a little over-opinionated, which could lead to mud slinging if a war of words started. Better just to let him talk without poking a stick at a HOFer. Plus, he's probably somewhat right.
  3. Thanks for the updates Jason and Conner(other post). Here's what I got from my front row view from the couch. 1) I love the MNF crew. It looks like they really hit on a good combination. 2) Orton has two things to focus on this off season. First, he needs to be able to go through his progressions without locking onto his recievers. Second, is the deep ball. He's missed Hester I multitude of times. This causes more trouble than just losing the down, because until he starts hitting these the opposing D just sits in the box and dares him. 3) There were plays that we line up 10 yards off the ball. I remember one play where Steltz turned his back to the LOS and was sprinting backwards before the ball snapped. He made it at least 25 yards down the field and a 20 yard pass was completed in the void he left. WTF was that? Also, agree with someone that said our LB's up close to the LOS and our DB's far back are not a good combo, as it creates instant reads and lanes for the QB and WR respectively. 4) I thought our DL played well enough, but would have like to see a couple of sack. 5) Danielle Manning has grown up. He is a f@cking animal returning kicks and coming off the corner. Now we just need him to learn how to give Rodgers whiplash instead of tha weak takedown. (It's a matter of timing and attitude ) 6) Garza is the uncontested weakest link on our OL. If Williams knows the playbook, I'd start him there next week. 7) I know the field conditions were horrible, but Turner needs to call more than inside counters and traps. The Packers not only played 8 in the box most of the night, but is was a compressed box at that. A couple of counter tre's, sweeps and a reverse or two would have gone a long way towards softening up the the cluster f@ck in the middle of the field. I have more, but am still soaking up the fact that we beat the Packers and they have to suck on the fact, that if they had any heart they would have won that game.
  4. Keep in mind, word on the street is that the Colts are going to cut Marvin Harrison for cap reasons. I think he's on the books for 8mil next year. Torri Holt is a maybe, as well.
  5. Now the Giants are down against the Panthers. That will make NYG hungry for the Queens! We better not lose tomorrow.
  6. Get your Prozac ready because this is going to drive you over the edge. There are several reasons moving Tillman to FS would be a great move for the team. (Disclaimer: It all depends on being confident of his replacement) 1) Tillman has good straightline speed = more suited to play FS, as a corner his man often gets open because he does not cut and change direction as well as most. Where he makes up for it by hustling to make the tackle and making the strip. Next point segway. 2) Tackling - He is a great tackler. At FS he will get more attempts to do what he does best. AP might not kill us with Brown in the box and Tillman at FS. 3) Stripping - Again more opportunities to do what he does better than anyone. 4) Scheme - A lot of our scheme is predicated on the CB turning the reciever over to the FS. With Tillmans straightline speed and natural ball skills he would be a dangerous center fielder. 5) Size - He has the natural size to add a few pounds and still maintain his agility. The way Tillman likes to hit, I could imagine him making some highlight reels from this position. 6) Natural fit - When drafted the experts said his natural fit was to play FS. One expert was quoted as saying, "If he doesn't make it at CB, he will be an all-pro safety". Of course he has made it at CB, so he only gets replaced if we find someone servicable at the position. Opinion - From what I see from our defense we have lacked a ball hawk since Brownie lost his speed. With Brown in the box and Tillman on patrol. I think the Bears DB's get better through getting the right peices in place to make the collective unit better. I also want Vasher at nickel, but that's a different topic.
  7. Never said he wouldn't draw interest. I just would be surprised if he gets big money elsewhere. I can only imagine him getting an incintive laden deal anywhere he goes. When healthy, he's worth every penny. When injured, he rips your heart out. Agreed on wanting him to retire a Bear. Just at a contract that doesn't hurt when he goes down. But us owing him because he redid his deal last year was as much for him as it was us, as he was getting ready to be cut - IMO. It gave him a chance to revive his career when other teams may have written him off and/or brought him in on a Kevin Jones type deal. (which is very high risk for the player)
  8. That's all you took from that post? I guess it really doesn't matter. It's not like he's worth big money that would lead to exess bidding for his services. The difference between a team friendly deal and highest bidder should be minimal.
  9. I have an idea. How about we bribe the towel boy into taping some boxing gloves on the fullback inside the red zone and on 3rd and one??
  10. I think DE would be huge for our defense. I think our DB's and LB's have suffered from a true lack of pass rush. We have dedicated more personnel to blitzing and playing in the box than any other team this year, without results. I love Suggs and wanted him out of college. I remember there was speculatution he would be a bust due to his 40 time. But, real football people know a player when they see one, so Baltimore pulled the trigger. I wonder with 20 mil how creative JA can be. If we sign Suggs, we can cut Brown or Wale to make more room. Resign M Brown for a team friendly deal (damn he owes us). Draft a day one corner and move Peanut to FS, the D should be on point. That would leave money to sign an upgrade at WR. Then we draft an OG and OT one day one. With luck we get another day one pick for a WR as compensation for Berrian. I also want the nastiest FB in the draft, whch can happen on day two. Other cuts for cap may be Tait, Garza, Metcalf, Booker, Davis, McKie and Hillenmeyer. Of course all won't be gone, but there is a chance that these will be the ones depending on moves. I have spoken, therefore it shall be done!!
  11. Not true. It's just the way Turner needs it with the talent we have. If they get road graters for a OG and FB, then Turner will have a strength to rely on. It won't be the threat of someone no-one is afraid of. If we have that true strength to rely on, Turner can trick people with play action and screens to players who are real weapons.
  12. All stats for QB's will have these ebs and flows. I would argue that Orton has missed or failed to see 3X that amount. Overall, I think his play has earned him some sort of extension this year or next, as he has proven he can play in this league. It depends on if he still has upside or the staff feels he is tapped will be the determining factor as to whether he is a starter or backup for the remainder of his career.
  13. I see Booker and Davis being cut loose. No use keeping a guy that doesn't have it anymore in Booker. With Davis you have a marginal size/talent guy that finds a way to blow opportunities on a consistent basis. I hope Lloyd sticks around. I have loved some of the catches he has made. My problem with him is the rumored attitude and dedication issues seem to have some teeth. Hester is also a keeper. He will keep defenses honest. Bennett dumbfounds me. Either he sucks or our coaches do. Who's coming clean 1st?? Rideou should stay as well, because he is young and has good hands with size to boot. All told, I think Hester will continue to mold into a dangerous #2. I actually think our QB is the key to this, as I have seen him missed wide open more than a few times this season. You could easily add 4 TD's and 200 yards to Hester's stats if Orton could throw the deep ball better. I'm still hoping for a solid off-season aquisition WR. Hindsight and what we'll have to pay will make us regret the loss of Berrian by thinking we could have had him cheaply. After that, we draft a guy that is big and tough that will play Bear football. IE: A Hines Ward wannabe.
  14. Count me in as a devout Packer hater, as I hate them yet respect the franchise. I equally hate the Vikings and Lions, with no respect of franchise.

    10 Wins

I guess that's one of those things where you have to be there to know. I certainly don't. I think Lovie is a good politician and shepard of players, but as far as coaching/scheming is concerned, not a fan. That being said, I think I predicted 7 wins in pre-season. So, you would think my expectations would be met. I guess I would say yes and no. Yes to the offense, as I thought they would be abysmal this season. Yes to special teams, as they have held their own despitethe loss of Ayanbedejo and the decline of Hester's greatness. Hell no to the defense, as they have fallen way short of being the lifeline of the team as I thought they would need to be. Hell no, to the coaches who I blame for 3 losses that should never have happened.(I am in the minority in thinking that Turner and Toub have done a decent job) But the rest... Hell no to Angelo, who I have been a big supporter over the years, for shelling out millions to the wrong people and leaving us with zero good wideouts.(Vasher, Urlacher, A Brown, Hester, Clark) Briggs was a steal and Tillman a push, but the rest have NOT panned out. JA should have used that money to pay Berrian because his upside is still on the rise and it left us vacant. Leaving us vacant was unexcusable. All told, there are still concerns about the future as I'm not sure if we are on the way up or the way down. Maybe we should open a new thread to discuss.
  16. I think two of those four would be awesome, but at too high of a price. I watched Romo the other night with his high dollar recievers look ordinary because the OL wasn't getting it done. Our OL is much worse than Dallas. If we are going to make Orton and the WR's effective. There must be time for the play to develop or a huge threat of being gouged by the run. Right now, we can do neither. My suggestion would be to pursue one and hope Hester and someone develops, then invest heavily in OL. The upgrade would/should/could happen at a higher rate of probability that way. At least you would provide our known entity in Forte the help he needs to continually succeed.
  17. I think there is something to be said about players performing elsewhere. You can look at it two ways. Sometimes the coaches are poor motivators and the player really never gets it. Sometimes the players light does not come on until they are jobless. We can look at Wade, Gage, Benson, Bradley etc... I have my suspicions on Benson, as he has never been more cut than what he is now. (Dude wants a paycheck) The others, who knows...
  18. I was on the fence regarding Berrian, then I thought it best that he go. Now, he has killed our hopes twice. Once with the 99 yarder and today against Arizona. He's proving to be a huge weapon and probably worth the money he got from the Queens. I'll be drafting him for my fantasy team next year if they sign a servicable QB. That's a consolation prize that takes some of the sting away.
  19. C'mon man, it's T.O. He's just not a team guy. I'd rather invest in players that would not destroy the locker room. Moose saying "this is where receivers go to die" would be a pebble at the base of Everest in comparison to what would occur. You brought this up before and got blasted, so please don't feel insulted.
  20. Ridiculous on all counts. A #1 for a guy who will be 35 next year is bad enough, but T.O.?? Hell no.
  21. 1 - Anthony Adams is much, much better than Dusty. Next yr, he should be starting. Agreed somewhat. I think Dusty has been effective, but worn down. A rotation would be great. Our staff is clueless when it comes to keeping players fresh. 2 - Manning is playing much better at nickle now that he is the kick returner. Maybe he needed some success on the field to give him confidence on defense. I don't think he is really good in coverage, but he is so athletic it allows him to make plays. I really like him blitzing. 3 - We need an actual free safety. Brown and Payne are both SS. I really think Tillman would be an all-pro safety. He's really faster than his timed speed, aggressive, a good nose for the ball and capable of adding more size without risk of losing straightline speed. At some point you'd think the staff would realize his value may be greater elsewhere. Side note: What do we do with Brown? He's "knock on wood" played every game and a FA this off season. Does he have anything left? IMO - he does, but definately at SS where he tends to injure more readily. Thoughts anyone?? 4 - Lloyd made a nice catch but also made a crucial drop. He needs to go. We need 2 to 3 new wrs in the rotation next yr. Lloyd's a Primadona without the Prima. A #1 reciever is an enormous need for us next year. It's also the biggest gamble a team can make. That's why I would put it 2nd behind OL. 5 - Robbie Gould is worth every penny he is paid. He set a Bears record yesterday with 3 consecutive 100 point seasons. Nuf said. 6 - Keep throwing the deep ball to Hester. Alot more goog can happen than bad. Agreed. Hester is proving to be a weapon. Not a very good reciver yet, but he draws a crowd out of necessity. 7 - Alex Brown loves those back up tackles. On the SCORE they were saying he would be the defensive player of the yr every year in the CFL as all the NFL tackle rejects end up there. Props to him on a good game. It seems a lot of defenders run hot and cold like that. Don't we get a new hero or goat on a consistent basis. 9 - Props to Url. That was his best game since last yr. Not a bad game for him.
  22. Agree and disagree. Babich needs to go, but Turner has done the job this year. Hell, I'll throw Lovie out before Turner. Also, agree that our D has as much or more talent than we had 2 years ago... coaching. Agreed on Orton as well. There is NOTHING outstanding about the guy. But the guy manages the game and finds a way to get it done. Oh, and he's stll a young guy. Now that he'll get all the #1 reps next year, he can conentrate on his deep ball. He'll be really good if he can start hitting some of those. Our special teams are still a strength and will be as team philosophy and due to the speed we draft for our D.
  23. Disagree - I think Turner has brainfarts like any other offensive playcaller, but hindsight is always 20/20. I becoming a firm believer that this O lacks talent, but is showing signs of promise. Disagree again - Orton is hurt and it is affecting his play. Would you be saying this before the injury? I think not. Plus, no matter what you think of him, he's a gamer. Totally agree. We need a #1 in the worst way. Hester on the other side will make a #1 a beast if we get one next year. He simply draws attention at all times and he has improved. Agreed again. But, it's headed in the right direction. Williams will assume the LT position next year with the hopefull addition of a young STUD OG. Beekman is coming along nicely and St Clair can replace Tait. From my rebuttal, you know I disagree. The TE's and RB's are a strength, but not the only thing we have. I think we should all reflect on what we thought this offense was going to be in the pre season and be thankful for the winning record. The O is going to get better if JA does his job.
