    The 2009 Bears

Thanks to RockfordBears for the thought... Lovie Smith is Coach Dale The similarities are astounding. Neither has a clue how to adjust to any gametime situation. Both are stuck in "their system" so much that other concepts are an affront to their knowledge. In fact, they run their system to the fault of their team's talent. How else can we explain the fact that Coach Dale wanted to give the ball to someone other than Jimmy, who was shooting 98% throughout the playoffs? Speaking of that, both mismanage their players' talents. Much like Coach Dale, Lovie insists on forcing the square peg into the round hole, or maybe everyone else is wrong () about the cover-2 minimizing the talents of players like Urlacher. Both rely on loyal but incompetent assistant coaches who make inane comments about things like "letting paint dry on the fence." To summarize: 1-Neither makes a decent game time adjustment. 2-Both believe in their system to a fault. 3-Both use their system as a means to stifle creativity 4-Both make poor decisions 5-Both mismanage talent 6-Both choose horrible assistant coaches Turner as Shooter Let's be honest, Turner calls plays like a drunk. There, I said it. Babich as that other coach Babich is the defensive coordinator in name only, because Lovie is running the show (which may or may not be good). Nobody knows the other guy's name, and to be quite honest, Babich is quickly being forgotten. I'm fairly certain that both just collected a paycheck. Urlacher is Jimmy Chitwood When Urlacher is gone, the team just isn't the same. If he were to come back and demand that Lovie stays, I'm quite sure he'd get his way. That's how much he's loved and needed in Chicago. Argue the need all you want, but this defense has NEVER been this bad when Urlacher has been in. Bearstalk as the townsfolk We want a change. We realize we need a change. And like the townsfolk, who were right by the way (see above Coach Dale critique), we're willing to go to drastic measures to get a new coach. Is there anything I'm missing here? Except, of course, the success in Hoosiers and the lack of success on the Bears?
  2. LMFAO. You just compared to Babich to a drunk, and Lovie to one of the worst coaches in coaching history (proof in a thread to come).
  3. Because of the "wink wink nudge nudge" aspect of the hire. It's essentially a promise to Weis that A] Barring a miracle, Lovie is getting fired soon, B] He gets full control of the offense, maybe even co-HC of some kind, and C] He gets a chance to prove himself in a situation with a lot of tools on offense. I don't see it as an unreasonable choice for Weis.
  4. From a different perspective, this doesn't surprise me, and only adds fuel to the idea that all the INTs aren't Cutler's fault. Blatant Defensive PIs not called: 2 or 3 Running into the Umpire: 1 Receivers ran the wrong route: 2 or 3 Receivers fell down: 2 or 3 Receivers tipped balls: 2 or 3 Even a modest approximation puts about half of the INTs on someone else, or at least shares a good majority of the blame. And that's not even giving Turner any blame for constantly setting up Cutler and the offense for failure with his boneheaded calls.
  5. Echoing both posts here, there is no excuse. Turner is not a good OC because he doesn't call a good game AND he doesn't improve players. And he's just one of the coaches on this staff who refuse to instill discipline or a solid gameplan.
  6. It's been rumored, but now it's pretty much a sure bet: Weis is gone This should be an easy one. 1. Fire Turner 1a. Punch him in the gut on the way out of Halas Hall 2. Contact Weis publicly 3. Hire Weis as "OC" (wink wink nudge nudge) 4. At the end of the season, fire Lovie 4a. If it costs too much, keep Lovie around but give the real power to Weis 5. At the end of the next season, fire Lovie 5a. Punch Lovie in the gut on the way out of Halas Hall 6. If the offense is doing well, and living up to expectation, promote Weis Easy.
  7. LOL. This is hilarious because it's so ridiculous that turning over the reigns to someone previously proven incompetent would possibly be an improvement.
  8. Oh, surprise, surprise, yet another person who thinks Urlacher would be better in a system that doesn't suck.

    Urlacher article

Reading the article, it sounds like Brian is having some fun while away. Fun like this:
  10. Regarding the final comment, there is no way in hell Jauron should have won that award. Many on this board, myself included, didn't think he should have won it, and didn't want him to win it. It was all smoke and mirrors, and the Bears won because that defense was NASTY. Jauron, much like Shoop, hindered the team more than helping it. The coach of the year award that year proved to me that the voters don't actually watch the games, and only look at the stats and highlight reels.
  11. Ahhh...why do you torment me? Wanny's emotion was the equivalent of a hyper infant throwing a fit because he can't stop something from happening. The only difference is, the infant would have a bushy molestache.
  12. One more reason why I absolutely hate Farv, and hope he gets injured. Yeah, I said it. He's the only guy in the NFL that deserves to get injured. His deal with the devil has run its course.
  13. Agreed. But we don't know annnnyyyything because we're just fans, and we aren't in the NFL. Yet again, the majority of this message board is proven right, while the Bears staff is proven wrong. But, yeah, we are the ones who don't know anything.
  14. Doesn't EVERYONE love the 3rd and long strategy of "we're blitzing! No we're not"-cover2 drop back that continually gets the Bears success play after play? It's unreal how good it works on third down! Lovie and his system are awesome!! I'm so glad he took over the defensive playcalling duties this year!
  15. If by "gold star" you mean "pink slip for Lovie," then, yes.
  16. Get it right. It's "Zombie Lovie."
  17. How many games in a row are the Bears going to have three offsides penalties on the DL who, for some reason, think they can magically guess the opposing team's snap count? That is a lack of discipline, period. And at a certain point, dumb penalties like that have to reflect in the staff.
  18. All I'm going to say is, I have been right for close to two and a half years., and the Bears front office has been wrong. The Bears have desperately needed an OL, and the bandaid has finally fallen off this season (perfectly punctuated by that last Bears possession). It is just too bad that under the bandaid there was a gushing head wound. EVERYTHING this offseason should be about firing the coaches and getting OL help in both FA and the draft.
  19. Has there ever, EVER, been a HC more ignorantly stubborn, more ridiculously incompetent, more hilariously overmatched and bewildered by the ability to challenge via instant replay?! This guy constantly challenges the wrong plays, and looks baffled with that Zombie Lovie look when the call doesn't go his way. It' almost as if he's saying, "Yeah, I knew it, but I have these challenges so I may as well use them." And don't even get me started on the plays he DOESN'T challenge. It's time to put the pink paper into the printer so Lovie's pink slip is ready as soon as the season ends.
  20. Beat me to.it. Cutler has had horrible luck. I can think of three OBVIOUS pass interferences that weren't called, two or three receivers falling down, one or two bad tips by the receivers, and the infamous "running into the Umpire"-interception.
  21. Also, keep in mind it's yet another INT that will ultimately go to Cutler's stats, but isn't his fault. That's blatant DPI. And if there is no PI, Bennet more than likely catches it since he's had sticky hands since he first stepped on the field at Vandy. That's probably close to ten INTs that he either has no or little blame. But, yeah, it is ALL in Cutler.
  22. and you know this how? Oh, right, you don't. Sadly, we'll never know Wolfe's potential until this staff is gone, because they don't know how to use their own players. I'm sure if the Bears had Dareen Sproles you'd be saying the same thing.
  23. I am glad I don't waste my time with it, because anyone who says the #1 problem is not the OL is someone who hasn't watched the games, is a liar, is willfully ignorant, or is a complete idiot.
  24. yes, because the two have clearly been on the field equal amounts (not saying they should have been) and been given equal, game-time opportunities to show their worth in situations that benefit their talents. If Briggs were managed the same way Wolfe has been, he would have been in in third and long only, and used primarily as a safety.
