  1. Allen's arthritis is something I am sure that the bears will do their due diligence on. If the arthritis was uncovered on an an Xray then the report will mark location and severity. Location is important because repeated wear and tear on an arthritic joint will affect strength and endurance. So putting up only 21 reps at the combine is a little concerning. Putting up 21 reps when his collegiate offensive counter parts are routinely in the high 20's and low 30's in reps. So, against his equals his punch is weaker. Aaron Donald came into the combine at the same weight and knocked out 35 reps. The next level aren't his equals. The draft is about potential. Allen says that doctors tell him it is mild other reports say it's moderate. Moderate arthritis in your twenties is a killer of potential. Healthy players will not have to worry about flare ups like Johnathan will.
  2. http://sportsmockery.com/2016/10/alshon-je...s-to-this-club/ It's early, but worth talking about. The likelihood of Jeffrey being tagged again isn't high. Pace likes building through the draft. As it stands we are the third pick. Philly has two first rounders. Jefferey is healthy now. Are the bears willing to pay 14+ million/year for a receiver that has history of injuries. These are all decent reasons to consider it.
  3. With Ryan not taking a reduction and the Broncos signing Okung. Clady is on the block. Is he worth it?
  4. TD, I can't tell if you are being serious or funny. Marshall is on his 4th team. And all of the previous three, there was rumored problems. I'll concede two were pre-diagnosis. He is being a good boy this year. Let's remember he is in the city where his show is taped. Tell me another active player that is on a weekly show in another state. It doesn't matter if trestman allowed it. Be a good teammate.
  5. There is so much we don't know about his injury. It could be in one of 3 hamstring (biceps femoris, semitendinosis, semimembranosis). It matters where it is. The strain could be between a grade I-III. Grade IV would be a full tear and he wouldn't walk the sideline. It could be in the belly of the muscle or closer to the attachment. Personally, with every win his value goes down in other's estimation of his value. 10 games in less than 2 seasons is not a person you want to throw a lot of guaranteed money at.
  6. It's a civil suit. The rape case was dropped for lack of evidence. Regardless of merit the civil suit would most likely only result in awarded damages at best for the girl. Most likely it will be a suit that will be settled out of court. My point is that I am sure there are civil suits filed against players on a regular basis. If the Bucs were deterred by civil suits then they would be just as stupid as the raiders organization.
  7. I actually did a dance when I saw this. This is clearly addition by subtraction. This is removal of the funky looking mole so it doesn't develop skin cancer, it is removing the turd from the punch bowl, the Baby Ruth from the swimming pool..... I like what Brandon Marshall did on the field for the most part. All you had to do is watch his documentary and focus on what he was like when he knew he was "micd up", and that says it all. And after Brandon said those words about buyers remorse in regards to Jay, I can't imagine that Jay is that sad to see him go. Jays contract is not his fault. He hasn't been good at all but the contract is not his fault. Everyone gets pissy with Cutler because they believe should play better. I wish he would but I don't expect it because he was so richly rewarded for being at best, average. Bottom line is Brandon's focus is not on football. So this trade works because it elevates Alshon and creates more team unity in the locker room.
  8. I get why Phillips made the Emery hire and why Emery made the Trestman hire. Philly hired an innovator(not looking so innovative now) and the bears thought they might get ahead of that curve. Then this season hit teams in the mouth with a running game. The bears got cute and the people that were responsible for that decision paradigm should go. But how far up should we go?
  9. Here is how it's gonna play out. Cutler is going to have a monster game to shove it in trestman's face and seal his fate out of town. The bears will win and get the 11-13th pick.
  10. That is why I used the word potentially. Also what can't be measured is the loss in associated revenue in jersey sales, hotel occupancy... My point is that, sure the bears have a roughly 98% ticket renewal rate, but will that continue. My concern is that having 11k empty seats is a terrible trend to start. I live in the west so my drop in the bucket is small. My whole family is bears fans and because the "product" is not entertaining I won't buy the nfl sunday ticket. Again, my drop is nothing. But am I a drop in a potential flood?
  11. Football is an entertainment business. Judging by the empty seats it is not entertaining and not a very good business. I heard estimates of 11k empty seats. Soldier field is the 5th most expensive stadium that has a fan index rate of $557.18 (4 tickets ((avg price)) two small beers, four hot dogs, program, and two adult caps). That means that there is roughly 2750 units that can be associated with that index. So with that loss last night the bears potentially lost over 1 million in ticket sales and revenue from vendors. Now I know a lot of those empty seats are from ticket holders. But this is a trend you don't want starting. Vendors feel it, restaurants and bars feel it, the economy feels it. So who is to blame? Well to reference Bill Parcells. It's the chef and the people buying the groceries. The Chef (trestman and coordinators) looks as though he has lost the team. He can't control his coordinators. I wonder if the team was coached by Parcells, bellichek, Harbaugh or any of that ilk. Would Kromer have dared to talk to reporters like that. Can we keep trestman as the coach and fire all his coordinators as their merits obviously deserve? The Grocery buyers: This is the front office. They bought the groceries, they approved the contracts. This is on them. And this "system" that Emery eludes to as dealing with the Kromer situation is faulty at best. Did they really think that by letting Kromar put on those headphones for that game last night that Cutler was going to have a great night. By letting him coach, what does that tell Cutler. And worse, what does that tell Kromer. Don't get me wrong, Cutler is very guilty of sucking. Trestman has shown with McCown that his system works and I can't fully damn Trestman for struggling with a quarterback that he inherited. As a guy that owns my own business and does the hiring and the firing. I know that you can't keep a person that costs you money and slows your business (Cutler) just because you are worried about paying unemployment (cutlers guaranteed contract). To grow you have to make tough decisions and to make those tough decisions the bears ownership needs to reflect and ask the question, "how did we make this be what it is?"
  12. the difference is the resistance and the biomechanics of the knee, center of gravity and load. At the time of his injury he and tuloch they had gone from resistance against a forward center of gravity (pass rush) to a non resisted almost neutral center of gravity with his cleat stuck in the grass/turf. by throwing his body and keeping his foot in one place then creating a rapid hyperextension of his body and knee the acl is pushed past its limit. Muscle fatigue and overall dumbassery also play a role in these type of injuries. I doubt you cared that much bet you would think they would know this as "professional" athletes.
  13. I think that teams need to coach their guys on some basic physics and anatomy in regards to celebrating. Celebrations that involve torquing any part of your anatomy should be banned. That is why the Brandon Marshall celebration is the best. Get on the knees and slowly stretch the arms to the heavens. No ballistic movements. By kneeling down he has removed his ankles and knees from injury. please accept the inferred sarcasm.
  14. Also looking forward the schedule will very interesting Carolina: No greg hardy (wife beater) and just lost another defender to 10 game ban. No real WR and a QB who still has a bum ankle. And a team that has lost two in a row. Winable Atlanta: a lot like the bears. Heavy offense and a defense that can't stop anything. Again winable. Miami: This is the one that at the start of the season, we would win. But given we are 0-2 at home I will say it's a loss, ironically. New England: They look beatable but so did Buffalo. Green Bay: loss. No evidence to believe the contrary. Minnesota 2x: Optimism. 2-0 Detroit 2X: 1-1 Tamps Bay: If we lose this one I am setting fire to my obviously unlucky bears socks Dallas: The only win I care about New Orleans: I hope they continue to suck. So by my wyoming math we CAN go 10-2. If I split the "winable" games 8-4. But if we don't get healthy we can be much worse.
  15. Stingers vary depending on the level of compression and location. I've seen a lot of these. The worst one took 9 days.
  16. I question why now? Why come out now? He already came out to his teammates. So he decides to come out before any pro days or the combine. I can see it coming up in the interview. But to come out now just brings too much pressure on himself and the crazy media circus that will follow him to Indy. Then when he gets drafted lower than he thinks he should we will be introduced to the "gay card." I am sure there are quite a few gay men in the nfl. Their team mates know it and life continues.
  17. As the director of scouting for the chiefs between 2008 and 2011. The chiefs took Flowers, Carr, Berry, J. Houston and K. Lewis. Again he was just the head of scouting but to be the head of a group that were the information suppliers for 5 defensive starters in three years is better than what we have done in the past.
  18. The only one that didn't ask for a jersey and chicago bears gear is 2 so he has one more year to get in line. I still have to teach them that it's Butkus not "BUTKISS".
  19. After the loss on Sunday I did my customary exhale that bear's fans know too well. That exhale that means, "I'm done, the bears are done/what happened to all the optimism from the offseason/why do I do this to myself every year." I know that is a lot to fit into an exhale but it's there. Then I saw a series of Christmas list's that my kids made and I had a change of heart. I found a seedling of faith and I drank the kool aid and began the speculation. There are 4 winable games on the schedule and the lions can lose two. They just lost two winable games in a row. I can feel the momentum building.
  20. Your right it has nothing to do with McCown. My point was that a backup/high school football coach came in and did a serviceable job. The organization would know they have great coaches that can prepare a guy. Let's project forward to the possibility that Jay sat out another week and the backup/McCown won. Let's imagine that he threw 250yds/2td/0int. That would mean 3 games 200+ yds/game with 0int and more importantly 2 quality wins. I am not saying that McCown is the future. I am saying that as a business, why would the bears throw a ton of money at a guy when the backup can win and isn't as expensive. McCown the person is NOT a threat to Cutler. The backup idea IS a threat to a big money long term contract for him. And let's be honest. What if Cutler threw 3ints this weekend. Most on this board would and in soldier field would be chanting McCown's name.
  21. I can see why Cutler would want to return as soon as possible. McCown has done great and most importantly no picks. Every game/win McCown notches is leverage/cash lost for Cutler. I like Cutler's arm better, but winning is winning.
  22. From the media stand point, the packers lost the game. They kept on about packers playing with a backup. So did he bears. They repeatedly talked about Clay Matthews being out. The bears had 2 starting def. tackles and 2 starting linebackers out, one being the defensive captain.
  23. The one play that showed the bears are changing is on 4th and inches Trestman calls a pitch play with crack back blocks and a pulling center. A CENTER!!!! For that to work there can be no penetration over guard or tackle. Very impressed with the call and execution.
  24. During the post game the usual crowd was commenting on the game and Steve Young made, I think, a very profound comment. I'm paraphrasing, but he said that what should concern the Lions and the Packers is that Trestman and staff have a plan. He mentioned that McCown said that he has never been as prepared as he was by Trestman and Kromer. For the first time in my memory, the bears have a "system." How else can you plug in a backup that was coaching high school football not too long ago, and he does well. I can see why Cutler wants to come back. You could see it on his face. With each victory that McCown earns is dollars and leverage lost.
  25. Stay defense in round one. With so many quarterbacks coming out there will be quality in later rounds.
