If Poles first draft is any indication, he turned 6 picks into. 11. In this draft you have 2 of the first 3 are OL , don't see that happening. 1 WR, 1 DL and 1 OL. In what ever order. While he was in KC he brought in a 2 nd rounder and 6 th to now considered one of the better OLs in football. He thinks he can build a line that doesn't need all first rounders. B Jones is an example of that, he thinks he's the future LT. I don't see him drafting a LB in the 4 th either, he found Sanborn as a UDFA. Maybe he was lucky or maybe he's smart.

Since Its Clear The Bears Have A Top 4 Pick , Who You Got?

What GM plans to just be mediocre? He has a plan, he never said after this second year , that he was done rebuilding. 3 things why I think he's the right man. 1) he wants to build a team thru the draft . Nobody thinks if he has two drafts that his job is done. Good GMs attack the draft every year. 2) he takes BPA instead of over drafting a WR last year because our WRS sucked. 3) He never going to reach for a FA with a bloated contract. ( overpay). Lets say he targets a DT like DeRon Payne, he will pay him but he's young and proven. He's only going to do one or two big contracts even thou we have a lot of money. He's going to be patient. -
Coming off historically one of our worst seasons, could be our best off season since I became a bears fan.

So as he is building this roster, you're against winning along the way up? Poles has already stated he's not going to take on bloated contracts to try to get an extra win or two. If you go by what he did this year, it's a template for his regime. He will get one or two big signing and do what he did this year, short term deals with the ability to bail next year. People will complain he's not spending enough money because we have so much. That is why he's not bringing in Hopkins or Adams, those are bloated contracts that will be bad for a team the last couple of years. He will throw money at a young guy like DeRon Payne that will be 26 next year. Or trade for a Higgins or Jeury that are still young. -
I don't know for sure but I don't think there are any QBs to draft this year that has the same tools that Justin has.

Equanimeious St Brown agrees to 1 year extension

If you noticed the first year, there is only a couple contracts that he can't get out of cheaply. -
If you think you're smart, buyer beware, lots of smart people in this league, I'm not one of them. Of course if you like a challenge, you will get it here.

Why not, he's a team player, as a 4 or 5, no problem. -
Didn't know where to put this but the Bears resigned ESB for next year , he was on a one year deal.

Actually you're not alone in that assessment. Olin Kruetz mentioned him on his podcast. That he's to easily injured, in other words, doesn't play with injuries. Some players think they have to be100% to play, Olin said after week 4 every year, that never happens. I think he was saying he was mentally weak without out saying he was mentally weak. Plus his work ethic was questioned by the coaches early in the year, that's why he was shuffled around so much.
-
Not sure of your opinion on Fields but that's not going to happen again while he's here.
-
I understand where you're coming from, but Poles started his rebuild this year. I think he will go longer with B Jones because that is his signature piece. He said he knows OL building and what is a better way than to have a 5th rounder become your long term LT. Anyone he has brought in will get the next preseason to prove themselves, Leatherwood and Claypool, even Harry may be brought back. He can upgrade every position but he's not going to start a rebuild because everything didn't prove itself from day one. I think he brings in a couple vets to play OL because he doesn't have time to wait on all young guys to develop. Jenkins will be in his 3rd year and Jones his second, he's not going to draft 2 high picks to start in the OL. He's needs stability tis year. He may draft one guy to compete at RT but he still has Kramer and Patrick in the mix at OC. I think he brings in a FA OC because Patrick can play any IOL spot for depth. If he gets the chance to replace Whitehair, he may but I think J Carter was what he was thinking when he drafted him.
-
I think Poles sees what we see, so it will get a WR, but odds of being a #1 will be slim. I tink he attacks free agency with 2 OL upgrades, Pocic and Kalib McGary. I don't think he waits for a bunch of young guys to develop. B Jones--Whitehair--Pocic-- Jenkins-- McGary. I think he will upgrade the depth by keeping Patrick and a draftee to replace Borom.

With the college season about done, better to look at tape now because the combine will evaluate players that may not belong at the top of the draft. Of course its best for us for the QB position. -
I always like to pat myself on the back for being smart ( maybe) but you are very good with words and say them better than me. You put all of my opinions into one post. Cudos. He said he was going to build through the draft , hard to do that with only one limited draft ( no first round pick) . The second draft will put more things in better light , if he gets us one blue chip and 4 starters. Plus buys the right free agents. Justin Jones will be back and he paid him decent money, the rest could be gone with small cap hits. Patrick only costs only 1/2 mil to drop. I like what he added after the season started, Waylon Jones, Wesco, Josh Blackwell, Kellen Dertich, Admin Watts , Chase Claypool, and Sterling Weatherford , so has yet to see the field.
-
I think the problem with Bears fans , we aren't use to players being developed and need instant gratification because of being bad for so long. I'm inpatient but try to stay positive because, we have a QB and 124 mil in FA and a high 1st round pick , just was terrible our first year of new regime.
-
I agree, easy to have opinions but 2 yrs from now if Brisket and Gordon are pro bowlers, no one should complain. I think having a new regime and we would have had a player whining being selfish, it wouldn't have ended well here. With our underdeveloped passing game, no one would have stood out this year. Claypool hasn't impressed but anyone notice Kmet and Mooney started to get targets because of the attention they had to play attention to Chase. Next year, all of this will ,be forgotten as we have a balanced offense.

All of those scenarios sound good but I want them to start winning next year, not a few years from now. Take Anderson, or if you trade back and stay in the top 10 ,and take that and draft T Wilson or Bresee. -
Its always different when you look backwards, the GM didn't have that advantage.

That's cool . This year I discovered Swifty on YouTube and Bears on Heavy.com and watch Hoge and Johans CHGO, No name Football podcasts II name a few .

Since we're near the season end, lots of social media talking about the mistakes Poles made this season. Drafting V Jones - 3rd round wasted pick. Paying to much for Claypool. 34th pick. Botched the Ogunjobi grab Failed to get Ryan Bates as a restricted FA. Did I miss anything? Fans have expectations that a GM makes all A+ moves and never makes a mistake. The best in the league screw up a lot, but they do is make enough good moves that makes them winners. First I think he hired good coaches that teach, probably doesn't look good with a season ending 9 game losing streak. The next few years will show it. Secondly he created great cap space for next year. He added some potential core players ( IMO) Gordon, Brisker, B Jones, T Gill, Sanborn, Jury still out on: V Jones, J Carter, Josh Blackwell, Jaylon Jones, T Ebner, , E Hicks, Eric Kramer, D Robinson, Sterling Weatherford, Kellin Diesch. Some vets who may stick, Morrow, Wesco, Claypool, Justin Jones, Armon Watts. This draft and Free Agency will define Poles. As with this year, it will be 2 yrs before we know for sure. I give him a C+ for where he's at right now.

Week 17 Official Game Thread CHI at DET, SUN 1/1, 12PM, FOX, DET -6.5, O/U 50
Stinger226 replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
With one game left he is 64 yards away from a record. That's why he was playing when he shouldn't have and why he will play this week. Coaches will help him get there because HE WANTS IT. -
Every year things are always changing. Rams won the SB and with one of the best coaches in the league, several blue chip players and look how they finished. Injuries killed them just like injuries killed us but only a couple games apart? Every year is different.

We can argue about passing on Pickens or Watson but who was available when he took V Jones is the question? Jahen Dobson -- David Bell--Danny Grey--Romeo Dobbs No one has been impactful, Dobbs has 42-425-3. Lots have been better than Jones but that's why you don't judge draft picks on one year. V Jones will be a gadget player, 30-35 receptions, kick returner having one big play a game. It will turn out okay but not a great pick. Next yr Poles will improve the OL and add 1 or 2 playmakers so we can have a more developed passing game. Mooney, Claypool, Kmet and whoever will be enough to start with.
