You hit on what will make Caleb great or another Trevor Lawrence i first player picked bust which doesnt mean bad but bad for the first pick. Its about improving and not repeating the same mistakes over and over. If he gradually gets down to below 2.5 seconds in releasing the ball at least he hits average NFL time. I think as of right now its 2.53 seconds release time. Accuracy either gets better or not, same pace as last year. No one is giving up on his talent but if he doesnt progress with the mental part of the game by the end of the year there will be doubts. Trubisky didnt get better, Fields didnt get better. The tape will show if Caleb gets better. The two things that bothered me the most about the last game was the time wasted between plays, down to the wire to much, and seemed rushed. Plus the decision to not run out of bounds at the end of the game when you were under 1 minute.

This is about as honest of a conversation that you can have with Caleb. He has the potential to be great but he isnt close to that yet. Trevor Lawrence was a #1 pick and he never even got to top 10 status. Tape never lies, I dont trust Caleb to be great but I do trust Ben to get him where he needs to go. This year will go along way on the growth of our franchise QB for the good or bad. Im an optimism so I think it all works out but worry is a good word to use at this time in his career.
  3. He has a history of an attitude but he played well last year while starting for the Eagles. It definitely cant hurt our depth. Maybe our D captains can keep in line.

I agree they are similar but the full season will tell the story. Remember Mitch didnt succeed here so we can only hope Caleb improves. Definitely has more talent than Mitch but that doesnt guarantee anything.

Every QB we had lately we looked at the good side and the bad side and hope for improvement. Both our previous QBs had flashes as you say but just didnt consistently do it. We are seeing the same inconsistencies in Caleb. The difference to me is now we have trust in a coach that can make Caleb better where we didnt with our last two coaches. I remember that game that Trubisky threw 6 TDs in and thought we had a special QB. He finished the year going 66%, 32 TDs and 12 INTs 3223 yds. Ran for 431 yds and 3 TDs. That was his second yr just like what we have for Caleb. Justin Fields first year was a total waste. He was suppose to sit and learn and Nagy threw him in the fire with a bad line and not a lot of weapons. His second yr was when he run for 1143 yds and 8 TDs. Threw for 60.4% 2242 yds 17-11. His stats would have been better but he missed two games. Looking back he had terrible coaches since they were fired last yr. Had he had BJ as a coach I am sure he would have helped him to be more consistent. None of that matters now, you can go back on a players development. He hasnt gotten much more consistant in his career. Caleb has some of the same traits we condemned Justin for . Holds the ball to long, leads the league at 3.07 seconds. Hasnt been accurate since he has come into the league. 62.3%; over two years. He seems to rather throw into double coverage to Rome than look for dump offs to TE or RB. I think BJ can correct his bad traits but for now we see his potential . I think he wants to be Mahomes type (hero ball) where all he needs to do is be Goff for now. . His special talents will show up once he becomes Goff then he can play like Mahomes and do the hero ball stuff. .
  6. I listened to a podcast where they discussed Caleb being the wrong QB for the BJ system. They talk about Caleb being a creator and not fitting a system type QB. They used McVay going after Stafford, and trading Goff to Detroit. Goff is highly successful in the system. Is that the situation here? I think Caleb is a talented QB that can play in any system but I dont see him getting better at this point of the season. During the game the announcers showed a stat where Caleb holds the ball the longest of any starting QBs in the league 3.07 seconds. How long will it take him to do the little things like being accurate, making the right decisions when under pressure. A simple thing like running out of bounds late in the game, instead he tried to gain more yds. Throwing in to double coverage to his favorite WR (Rome) instead of a different player open over the middle. I think his problems are mental and am waiting for the moment he becomes the #1 pick QB I expect him to be.
  7. This is not the same old Bear organization. The McCaskey's turned the future over to Warren, Poles and now BJ. Now if they are the wrong group its on them not George. We are 4-3 with the arrow pointing up. We have a A+ coach and a potential top 5 QB, not sure why 7 games into the season, its the same old doom and gloom. IMO I think we have enough talent to have a winning record this year. Is it perfect, nope but before I jump in the hole of disparity, Im going to let this season play out. When the Bears win, Im in a happy mood for days, when they lose, I have the 3 day flu. This is the only sports team I am emotionally invested in. With its history, not sure why I choose this team but to late to change it now. I have several friends that when KC won Mahomes first SB, they became Chief fans. I wish I could do that.
  8. We are not going to be a good team until we clean up the penalties. We have no control over bad ref calls and they are real. Every time we had some consistency, a penalty killed a drive, took us out of the red zone and threw off any continuity we had obtained. Gave them life and allowed them to move down the field. We had two DL go down early in the game so that affected how our defense performed later in the game. We were fairly effective in the run game but let Caleb do to much. With all the potential he has, he makes to many mistakes. Saying all this, we were in the game at the end. We have to play to perfect to win these type of games. Caleb is suppose to be the unicorn that raises the players around him and he keeps coming up short.
  9. Has Caleb gotten worse? Am I looking at the mistakes to much? Did you see any progress today?
  10. When they looked at the replay how did they not call targeting?
  11. If we lose this game , Caleb will still be the starter but he is going to have to show improvement because a couple more of these typeof games will get him put on the bench.
  12. We still have time to get this game but Caleb is going to have to pick his game up.
  13. Even thou a bad defense they are creating because they are playing physical. We have to match that.
  14. He had Rome beyond the first down and throws it underneath and did not look like he was under pressure. I dont get it.
  15. That was IG, but he could have rolled to the right and made something happen.
  16. Caleb should have run out of bounds instead going down. Pretty stupid decision.
  17. Penalties by the young guys keep killing us. The Ravens DL is out playing us at the line of scrimmage. We need to make adjustments.,
  18. Its nice we're moving the ball, but yet again FGs. We need to change that to be a true playoff contender. I seen them show a stat that Caleb holds the ball the longest in the NFL. I wish that improve. Also, accuracy is off, again.
  19. I just noticed their defense only have 8 sacks on the year and we have 12. They only have 3 TOs and we have 16. I dont think this game will be as close as everyone expects. Ravens defense is awful.
  20. So who gets game balls this week? I think Loveland has a breakout game and Brisker for his contributions to stopping the run. Caleb for going over 300 yds and 3 TDs, no TOs.
  21. This game is really hard to call. Baltimore has more urgency and is at home. No Lamar is huge but the effort and physically will be there. So can we out physical the Ravens? If we run the ball and can limit Henry we will win the game. As we have seen most games this year seem to go down to the wire and I think this will to. 28-23 Bears.
  22. Statement was made before he got put on IR. Do you think this is Braxton giving the finger to the Bears for benching him? I dont remember any injuries mentioned when Theo got put at LT. The one thing I think this coaching is doing that wasnt here before is developing players. Theo, Dom Robinson, Sewell, DuShon Wright all seem to be contributing.
  23. Benedet handles the bull rush better than Jones did what I expect is because he is stronger. He got walked back several times but if Caleb got rid of the ball quicker it never matters. He went from a UDFA to starter so I think he is growing into the position as he gains more experience. There was only one sack in that game so the general pressure is getting better. Someone has to play LT and of our choices they think Theo has the most potential. OLs always look better once their QBs make quicker decisions, throw to their dump down targets, and show more accuracy in the short throwing game. Our growth in the passing game is focused on Caleb getting better. Does anyone else notice Caleb gets a lot of passes knocked down at the line? Is that a vision problem, or timing problem? That is the only think about his growth that bothers me. The rest are all fixable.
