  1. I know bagging on him became popular, but I thought this was a very good read. I also will caveat it by saying I always was a fan of Lovie so I am inherently biased but I felt that he was the time of guy you could be proud your organization had and there is something to be said about that and how he handled the lockeroom, etc. We sorely miss that sort of leadership qualities from the top. I don't think anyone in our front office, Emery or Trestman, have the types of intangible leadership top of the totum pole skills necessary to excel in their current positions. http://chicagosuntimes.com/sports/revered-...bears-listened/
  2. I completely agree. I think it starts with hiring Bill Polian or a Bill Polian type to be the president. I think they should do it now so that the individual can get his chance to see how everything is going and then be in a good position to make decisions in the offseason.
  3. If Harbaugh is out there, not getting him would be a bad answer. I was the guy who was so pissed we didn't hire Andy Reid. I found it pure lunousy that we weren't interested in a guy who was one of the best coaches in the entire league. Just seemed too easy to have a candidate like that out there. I feel the same way if Harbaugh is truly available. Pay him whatever he wants. IF he isn't, there won't be any proven / established NFL commodities out there. The only guy who legitimately might want to coach who had extended success is Shanny. I will say the more Washington is a disaster the more I give Shanny the benefit of the doubt. I do not think Cowher / Gruden are going to coach. I do no think anyone else is what I'd go after and after Smith gets fired in Atlanta, I won't be interested because his team has had the same problem our team has had from an underachievement perspective.
  4. I agree with you. I think Bowles would fit the bill, the question is who would he be bringing as an OC.
  5. Thought this was a good summary of him. What I liked is how he worked as a UDA to make it. Then worked in personell and got some scouting perspective until moving into the coach ranks. Love the aggressive D and aggressive mind-set and the results have been very encouraging. Big question to me is how does he lead and does he have a big picture vision that is necessary to be a head coach.
  6. You hit on a few things, but who is our leader period? I don't know that we have one in our head coach nor in the rest of the players. Otherwise pretty accurate assessment. I would argue our run D has been pretty solid all year though.
  7. To be honest, outside of the unrealistic guys (Gruden / Saban), I don't like that list at all. Shanny is the only guy I would think about. Those are not names who are remotely top 10 guys to go after at all, imo.
  8. I have no interest in McDaniels. I don't think his personality works as a head coach. I want Bowles or Harbaugh.
  9. I think Tennessee would be interested, presume the Rams might be as well. Maybe even Houston.
  10. I would expect their offense to struggle. They have not been able to keep a QB in the game and even their top QB, Palmer, isn't very good. Bowles is a guy I've been touting and am all over. I want to rebuild this defense and our franchise and I think Bowles would be an outstanding hire.
  11. This would be amazing. I wonder if the titans are one of those teams?
  12. Alright, lets go boys. As much as I hate it, we'd still be better off if all of a sudden we started putting up 40 per game the rest of the season.
  13. All a moot point because he isn't going to leave the Colts for Chicago anyway. He is viewed as one of the top execs in the business though and it would be a major coup to hire him, but again, not happening.
  14. Well you'll see my whole point is I don't want Emery making another decision. He is a steaming pile of turd. I want us to bring in good football people at the top and then make that decision. 5 years ago, I'd have been all over Shanny, now, I don't know how much I like that hire. I think I'd rather go with Bowles to be honest. That said, Redskins are a mess of an organization.
  15. That is the question to me. If the Bears think Shanny is the right man for the job, period, fine, go get him, but do not hire him to cater to Jay. If Shanny wants Jay, great, if he doesn't, great. Personally I would be okay with a defensive coach who could come in and hire the right offensive guy and really get the defense rebuilt. Find an OC who will focus on the line and ground game while still taking advantage of Jay / other weapons and we can draft someone more long-term but reinvent the D. I'm thinking Bowles or whatever his name from the Cardinals would be a very good get (as long as he has the clout to bring in a very good offensive mind). I also am clearly on board with Harbaugh. I think the first step starts with bringing Polian into some sort of adviser role to basically oversee this mess, get a gauge for what is going on and then making recommendations to the McCaskeys about who needs to be let go of, etc. Start that process now and then at the end of the year, I'm okay upgrading Polian into a president role and then bringing on a GM who he sees fit and letting them pick the coach.
  16. If the front office thinks Shanny is the right guy for the job, great, hire him, but I do not want it to be because of Jay.
  17. My issue here is are we hiring the best coach or are we hiring the only guy with a good track record who would be willing to come here? It seems to me if we bring anyone in, it should be who we think is the right guy long-term. We've bet on Jay too long. If whomever we bring in still uses Jay for the next couple years, great, if we win with him, great, if not, I want whomever we brought being the person we think is the right long-term man for the job. I also can't buy into any situation in which Emery relied solely on Trestman to sign Jay to big money. Don't believe it for a second. The same GM who controlled pretty much every coach Trestman hired. And if he did, poor decision. You don't want out those type of contracts without being 100% on board as well (as an organization too). The reality is our organization has made poor decisions. We need to hire whomever is best and let them do what they want with Jay, period. That is from the GM on down and in my opinion should also involve someone stepping into a role above the GM as well (maybe a bill Polian).
  18. I'll at least give Mel credit for how he answered and responded to the media today. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...1112-story.html
  19. I really don't want to continue catering to Jay. I realize we paid him a lot of money but at this point we need to start moving forward as an organization and bring in fresh perspectives and a new regime. If they stick with Jay while building defense and other areas (and drafting a young QB), great, if not, that is fine too.
  20. If you are going to get rid of someone, at this point, it should be the head coach. See if the bigger problem is the tone at the top. I still think the biggest problem is Emery and everything he has done (or pretty much everything). I think him and Trestman are total disasters as are the significant bulk of coordinators that EMERY brought in. Emery brought in a puppet coach so he could try to control everything and Trestman was the only guy willing to do that and that type of personality won't succeed as a HC in the NFL. Players won't respect him, people won't do all the little things necessary, etc.
  21. #Bears coach Marc Trestman says Jay Cutler has to play better & mistakes he's making in games r not happening in practice. Is it as simple as saying that even our defense makes our offense look good?
  22. Thought that quote pretty much summed things up.
  23. I think that makes total sense. Reality is if Trestman is fired now, all of the assistants will likely be gone, but it does give Emery a shot to say, see it was the bad coach and I told you that and yes I made the mistake to hire but I've learned from it and noticed it early and solve it. I don't think that will happen and I think the quickest way to get back to respectability is getting rid of everyone this off-season.
  24. I don't think firing a coach solves much and think if something were to happen, it should have been Trestman. See what new leadership can bring and if they play decent, hello new head coach and Emery stays. Play bad and Emery goes along with everyone else too (they are likely gone anyway under new HC). Sticking with everything the same doesn't make sense but firing one guy below Trestman doesn't change things given the fact that I fully believe our biggest problems first and foremost start with our leaders in the front office, QB, and on the coaching staff (along with players obviously).
  25. While I realize Briggs shouldn't be opening his mouth, I think its more of a player of his legacy who is on his last legs, has been out hurt, looking at things and saying, wow, there is no possible way to fix this and this would not have happened under previous regimes for whatever reason (probably a lot of it has to do with how bad our coaches are along with roster issues as well). It isn't like Briggs tore Lovie apart when Jauron was replaced. Again, not defending Briggs cause he's still a current member of the team and needed to do whatever he could and it would appear he just never bought in and never did. At the same time, organization should have noticed that and made the necessary changes. Fact that Emery wastes time analyzing and fact checking reporters comments is pretty sad in and of itself (all to defend and make a stupid comment as to why Jay is elite).
