Offense needs to figure out a way to run the ball consistently. It will open up so many more things. Right now, we tend to be hit or miss because we drop back too much and thus things become a bit more predictable, especially against a D like the Jets that can generate pressure.
-
Good assessment. Three things stood out. We had a few cases of the drops last night, we made stupid penalties, and well, tied into that last one, our special teams continues to be a bunch of knuckleheads with the penalties.

Not having Conte is a huge loss.
-
He was rejuvenated leaving Chicago. He wouldn't have done that with us. He looked faster and more explosive then he has in years. Clearly him and Cutler didn't click and the fresh start gave him some more motivation. Also, its hard for a QB to like you when you consistently line up in the wrong spot and drop balls. It is unfortunate because at times, Hester looked like he could have been a pretty good wideout. Too bad that when Trestman asked him to play wideout a year ago he said no.
-
He looked like another player. I haven't seen that sort of explosiveness out of Hester in years. Makes sense since he eventually said he wasn't happy.
-
Yeah...I wouldn't quite jump to conclusions like that. Jets have one of the best D's in the league and it is a road game. I expect this to be a very difficult game.
-
He had shown some nice things. Disappointing.

Just a total bummer. Urlacher had the better peak in the recent Bears era but Tillman was my favorite Bear of the last 10+ years and one of my favorite Bears all time. He was both a stud on the football field and a person who did a lot of good off the football field. For his season and potentially career to end this way stinks but I want to thank him for all of the fantastic memories and the fact that he represented our franchise so proudly both on and off the field. Thank you Peanut and Get Better!!!

I agree, I said they were ok and by ok we had like another 4 penalties and one net 20 or so yard punt, etc. My new definition of Joey D okay is being one of the 5 worst units in the league vs. the absolute worst. He is the worst.
-
He's played very well this season.
-
We were consistently in positions to make plays and prevent big plays. We missed a few tackles that you'd like back and they got us on some openings in the zone but by and large we looked FAST. Never thought I'd say that and we also looked disciplined, outside of some foolish early penalties that extended some drives for them (speaking defensively).

It was amazing to see a rookie on our defense with instincts. He was really good. He had a weak PI called against him early in the game (or some form of penalty) but was very very impressive.
-
Briggs was a beast. Made up for last weeks game. You can tell he isn't as quick as he once was, but he was in all the right spots and made some nice plays. Heck of a win...one thing though...how does Joey D have a job. Our ST unit is absolutely deplorable.
-
He played very well yesterday.
-
WTF?
-
I'll tell you one thing...if Briggs really was up out till the wee mornings getting drunk, Bears should cut him or suspend him. Need to send an absolute message. Let him get away with it, others will follow suit and it will be an utter disaster.
-
I'd put a 1/4 chance that both don't play on Sunday and probably a near 50% chance that one of them is out. That worries me and basically makes this an impossible game to win.
-
I'll tell you what the problem is...talent....we have none at LB, other then an old Lance Briggs. Bostic, LOL, the next football instinct he shows will be the first. Shea...LOL...maybe he can do it but he's one of our best and was a bust at DE the past couple of years. Our talent at the LB position might be the worst in the league. All that said, it is still 1 game and at least some of these guys are young and have some athleticism so maybe they can be coached up. PS: DJ Williams is old and slow too. Good instincts though.

This article is atrocious...so Cutler's 3rd and 1 incomplete to Holmes on a bad play call is somehow one of the 5 worse throws / plays by a QB? How the hell is that the case? Yeah, we didn't convert but what the heck do you do when no one is open. How about we freaking run the ball or do something else, but I don't see how this is on Jay. Basically the gist I get from this was we played in a very winnable / close game that went back and forth and thus almost every play was in a close game and magnified so when we didn't convert anything it had a significant impact on the win probability due to it being a close game. Blah blah blah..this was stupid. It more or less just talks about the win probability of certain situations more then anything on QB's. Cutler being the most catastrophic QB of the week is completely laughable. I could name 15 Qb's who were worse then him last week, probably more.

This game scares the crap out of me. Our defense lacks speed and I'm curious how that manifests itself against a mobile QB like Kap. Those type of QB's have given our non-prime Urlacher defense fits. Our LB corps is so freaking slow.
-
I think the fact that elite QB's don't make mistakes is a bit overblown too. However, I do agree as a whole the top QB's throw fewer picks. That said, Brady made plenty of mistakes this past week as did Rodgers. Bottom line, it is a team game and we had an uphill battle given both the turnovers and overall field position battle. It was week 1 though and I expect our unit will get better and to be frank we have to. Defense better find ways to generate turnovers or a pass rush, otherwise we will be in trouble. At least some of the time we were able to stop them on 3rd down, something we couldn't do at all in the preseason.

I think Cutler is getting a lot of blame when he actually played pretty well. I counted 1 real bad throw out of him and a lot of good throws and great command against a good defense. The pick to Bennett was pretty clear to me a situation where Bennett didn't settle where Cutler expected him to. You could see it instantly in the way Bennett reacted. He knew he was in the wrong. Jay kept his composure and everything like that was nice. Play calling needs to be better and execution has to be improve but its week one, you don't expect to fire on all cylinders. Things can be cleaned up but with our receivers on the field, we win that game, imo. That said, no excuse to lose at home to a team like the Bills. We got destroyed in the field position battle and our turnovers put us in a real tough spot. I couldn't get enough of a gauge against that defense and really that offense was an awful match-up for us, given they were #2 in the league in rushing a year ago. Put them in a situation where they have the lead and good field position and we really got put in a tough spot. Our punting unit was utterly disgusting. Compare our special teams with the Bills...wow, what a difference.

As a whole, I felt that the game got away from us because we spent too much time flinging the football and didn't focus enough on the run. Including in that 3rd and one situation. Defense actually surprised me a bit, however, we still gave up a bazillion rushing yards. Offense didn't do the defense any favors. We got absolutely destroyed on field position all day long. Really pathetic.
