Interesting Tweets from Ty Youngfelt on Twitter
DABEARSDABOMB replied to dawhizz's topic in Bearstalk
Given Emery has pretty tight lips, I wouldn't get too excited or mad about these tweets. -
I don't believe in giving up future firsts. Just a bad idea. I believe in robbing other teams of their future firsts.
-
Conte was a good safety two years ago and as good as our D was 2 years ago, our D was far worse last year and no safety would have excelled in that D.
-
I think at some point Tillman comes / moves to safety or plays in a reduced role. I think he has a spot in Chicago as long as he wants it. I love Tillman but in this league, you need multiple good corners.
-
Not really. You don't draft on year one. He's going to get a lot of snaps if our CB's are healthy and if one goes down, he gets even more snaps and he's a starter a year from now (presuming he performs).
-
We have struggled but the rest of the league hasn't. You can find a lot of safety's who were later round picks that are solid. Daniel Manning was a high pick (so we did invest there). Major Wright was an early pick too. We invested, we just missed.
-
I don't think Brooks / Ward are on the board in the 3rd round.
-
We aren't taking a safety in round 2, not without trading down, imo. Converted corner to safety. Our safety's were in zero position to succeed last year. We had the worst dine in football. No pass rush, bad linebacking play (on top of the bad dline) put our safety's in bad spots from a rushing game perspective and also hung them out to dry from a cover perspective. They played bad too but an elite safety would have struggled given the situation at LB / Dline last year. It was just brutal. I think Emery recognizes that and they know they have a few guys that might play. Plus, I don't care what anyone says, Conte was not a bad player 2 years ago. He was freakin atrocious last year and I wouldn't write him off. Unfortunately that shoulder injury was a big issue for Bears cause that might spell him in. I like our chances at getting a good cover guy who can tackle and moving them to FS. Jimmy Ward would be nice. Love how he finds himself around the football so often.

Definitely sounds like he was his best player available and clearly they graded him out above corner and corner is more important. I think we all wanted safety because our safety play has been so bad but a better dline should help that out and we can still add to our secondary and find a safety.
-
I absolutely think he could play safety. I think there are a ton of top corners who would be elite safety's but very few free safety's who would be above average corners. I'm not saying Fuller can't play safety but I don't think we drafted him to play safety. I think he's here to get a lot of playing time (look at our division and the wideouts we go up against and passing attacks) this year and think we'll draft a guy later who we will convert to safety (although we very well might go safety in the 2nd round too). I just think it is easier to find safety then corner and I think it is a more important position. I also wasn't overly sold on Ha Ha, although I like Pryor a lot, I think CB is more important and therefore presume JA had him as the top corner and saw a lot of value in getting him at 14 (vs. a safety).

I will say, I think, if a team were interested (and there may not have been a team willing), I would have moved down. Broke my heart when Donald was picked but I really excited to have a guy who could be an elite corner and having three good corners is going to be very important giving how this is a passing league and we are in a division with two teams that can throw the football.

I like what Browns have done. I really liked getting the CB. I have quietly been pushing CB over safety (in fact had MLB over safety too) and would have taken CB or Mosely over either safety, especially Ha Ha who I think is very overrated. I think in this deep corner draft we'll see Bears select another corner, who they think they can move to free safety. We got a guy who some thought was the top corner in the draft @ 14. I'll take that all day and let Tillman and company help coach him and prepare him. I hope we get another young guy to join the secondary and think it will be a third or 4th rounder that we convert. You can find good safety's late and that guy doesn't have to be a safety as you can teach a corner to be a safety and succeed (and I love the idea of having a guy that is a good cover guy at safety…clearly they have to be able to tackle too).

DT > Safety. i like pick. would have traded down if i could though.
-
I think that is why I mentioned when you have one guy on the board who you grade out well above everyone else, you don't trade down. When you have multiple guys who grade out similarly, you then trade down.
-
I think he goes DT / MLB / CB in round 1.
-
Given the depth of this draft at some key positions of need, I think the organization should consider the anti Ditka and stockpile picks depending on how the scenario's work in round 1. I keep saying it, but if Donald is off the board, unless all of our other key guys are too, I think we move down and I think we could move down a decent number of picks, stockpile additional picks in rounds 2-3 and still get a DT that grades out in the 1st round (or a CB / Safety).
-
It has worked really well for the Pats over the years. I think it is a great thing and it always worked well for Jimmy Johnson. Reality is you want to accumulate as many good players and the more top 3 round picks you have the better the chances. There are times it doesn't make sense, when you think you have an elite option there, but when you have a handful of guys grading out similarly, the upside of an additional top 3 round pick, often times is worth it, especially when you can get real creative and move a couple times. Looking at the 1st round depth at DT, I think the Bears could move down on two separate occasions and potentially get a tackle that grades out similar to what they would have taken at 14 (again this is assuming Donald is off the board). I don't think either of the safety's available are elite picks. I like the top corners better then the top safety's, however, i won't complain if we take one and will trust what the bears do because it is a position of need.
-
Haha or Pryor aren't that great of value, imo, and I'd be surprised if one of them wasn't on the board at 18. I also think you have a good chance one of the top CB's are on the board too at 18, plus potential for a LB and you are more comfortable taking one of the non Donald DT's (or further moving down and stock piling picks) knowing you still have a few DT's that you like that you can get even later in the 1st round (while acquiring additional 2nd or 3rd round picks in a deep draft). I don't trade if Donald is on the board.
-
I take him over either of the safeties on the board. I'd prefer corner as well. I am not a big fan of Ha Ha, especially not at 14.
-
Lovie is taking Manziel or Donald.
-
Not interested. I want a backup that can throw the football.
-
No 1st year GM is going to lead his head coach, who he inherited, no less, make the 1st round pick on his own.
-
If DT isn't there and they don't want a CB, then trade down and take a safety (or one of the lesser DT's).

I don't get the Briggs / Urlacher comparisons. Briggs has bitched about one thing, by and large in his career, his contract (from time to time). Usually he complains about once during his span of a contract. Sure he got his tizzy in a bit of a bundle after some key-cuts to some good friends...it happens, but by and large he's always went about his business and been a pro. He also did have his lamborghini mistake and learned from that. Urlacher runs his freaking mouth all the time, including after he's left the team. There is a difference. Urlacher was also the better player but Briggs didn't get near the credit he deserved during what was a very long prime of his career. I hope Briggs still has some good football left with the Bears!!! However...neither of them are Peanut Tillman for me. Not only a great player but a great dude, on and off the field.
-
Completely agree; And, last I checked, the Bears were the only team to offer Urlacher a contract. How's that for showing at least some loyalty. It wasn't the amount he wanted but it was still more then the rest of the league was willing to offer.
