  1. On the hold's too long - I think he was top 7 through 3 games in NFL in terms of average time to throw...so he has not been holding it long. Not sure where he falls after week 4.
  2. I actually think he wasn't as good getting the reads out on time in this game vs. the week before. But with that said - there was a sequence early in 1H where he was sacked on like back to back plays, I think both might have been holding penalties on the defense. On those plays - I wondered if he held long because of the "holding" but those were some times where it looked like he was double clutching vs. get to the back of his drop and let it fire. At same time - the TD pass and the pass to Kmet over the middle of the field were both beautiful reads as well as throws. And he used his check down's well. I think in the Colts game, 2nd half when they got rolling with tempo, I liked that there were a lot of throws where he was back of his drop and firing. Either way - I do think he is the type of QB who can handle the "Peyton Manning" treatment they are putting him throw. It is clear they are giving him the key(s) and the rope and letting him learn the complex system out of the gate vs. babying this thing along. I also think Daniels could be great or even better - none of that matters anymore as a Bears fan and Daniel(s) success or struggle(s) have no bearing on what Caleb accomplishes (or doesn't accomplish). Thus far though through 4 weeks he's looked different than any rookie QB I have seen the Bears have (and I say that in a good way - clearly a LOT to still go - but for where he is - he's definitely better than the past...and hopefully he keeps building week after week and ends up being the greatest QB of all time for the Bears (and more broadly).

  4. Shoot…not that it says a lot…this was 11th most passing yards in a single game in franchise history.
  5. This was huge progress. Mistakes sure but 363 yards…most by a Bears qb in 16 years. Oh and until Dak surpassed him it was the most yards in the NFL in any one start. Caleb has work and he will make mistakes but he is learning and I’m excited. I said in this first quarter of the season I wanted a 300 yard game…box checked…next up a 3TD game.
  6. Caleb had another game with continued progress. 360+ yards in his 3rd game. Did he make mistakes…yep, but he also had a number of really good throws and with anticipation. I’ll take this loss over the week 1 win any day of the week at this point in Caleb’s career. Swift and Waldron and oline better get stuff together. At least they are using Roschon and Kmet more and ROME had some solid plays.
  7. Lets have a fun game. I don't wish injuries to Homer but I like the idea of Homer not being in the backfield at all (he's a good ST'er but he shouldn't sniff the offensive unit unless the other 3 backs are hurt. Davis wasn't bad last season once he got going (probably was he waits for the season to get into shape which means you have to deal with 4 weeks of issues before he gets decent and even than its just decent). Was really a reminder of the pitfalls of free agency.
  8. Inside the building they got to use this as a test, but use it internally to get better. Don’t let the 2 games define you and start finger pointing - let it galvanize you as the collective team continues to grind and fix the communication breakdowns, continue to learn and deepens knowledge of new system, coaches continue to dial in the system for what works for the personnel, etc, for Caleb to continue to learn and adjust and to continue to build his rapport with his wide outs and tight ends….for the defense to keep getting sharper. Got to keep the head down and grind…look at KC last year…they struggled but they kept working and working and were a different team by the end of the year. As you said - Houston did the same.
  9. This is the one do-over I would have. I go back to - ownership is willing to invest huge money in a new stadium. I'm indifferent on Eberflus...good guy, quality coach, I don't think he is a difference maker as a head coach though (I hope I'm wrong). He is steady though and I do think there is some value in that sort of head coach. But Harbaugh was out there for the taking - you had the #1 overall pick - if there was ever a time to go get a total gamechanging head coach like Harbaugh this was the time. Only other time I felt this convicted is when Andy Reid was a free agent coach.
  10. I agree and I think any talk of going 5-1 on the next stretch is just that. Could it happen, sure, they could also go 1-5, given pains with a rookie QB. With that said - my hope is we go .500 in that stretch and see week after week growth and maturity from Caleb and the team. Want to see him better handle the blitzes and make growth there, see him continue to make growth on taking the check down where appropriate, but also need to start seeing him make some of the big plays down the field (seeing him be calmer on the field which will lead to things slowing down and his natural accuracy to take over). I also expect we'll see improvements in the chemistry of his wideouts and improvements with how the oline handles things. A lot of this is on the players - but it is also on the coaches to at this point start simplifying and dialing things in so we can get good at a few things and than slowly branch it back out over 2nd half of the season as our QB matures, etc. I do believe our OC is asking Caleb to do more on the field than a typical rookie and has done less to protect him. I think that is a sign of how highly they think of him, but it still can be a that was still a bit too much to handle so lets dial it back a bit. Its a careful delicacy to make sure you give him the confidence and protect him while also challenging him cause he clearly wants to be challenged and put a ton on himself. I may be wrong - but I thought I saw a lot more at the huddle adjustments from him than I have seen any previous rookie on the Bears. Not saying he is Peyton Manning or Brady at the line - but they seem to have been taking a "no training" wheels approach where as Daniels has had more structured run and roll-out plays designed to simplify the reads and concepts. Haven't watched Nix enough to see what Payton is doing there.
  11. I liked the other 3 recievers more from a pure athleticism standpoint. Rome's character is really good and I expect he'll be a good player but for whatever reason had the worry that he lacks that elite quickness or elite skillset that can be a game wrecker at the NFL level. I was in camp of move up to get one of the tackles but was also fine going wideout (and was definitely good with moving down if their were takers).
  12. One thing to remember about the pressure rate - is it wasn't that he was pressured on 38 of 39 plays, I believe the pressure count is just the # of pressures - so on many plays it was 2 or 3 pressures on the same play (so 3 pressures on 1 drop back). I think for the game he had 23 drop backs where he was pressured...which was still a very alarming rate, but given how much they blitzed not a surprise. If you blitz you expect pressure...now it is up to the offense, oline, QB, backs, etc to pick up the hot read and make the defense pay. No shock the rookie QB didn't do that - and this was his real first test of it (road environment, crazy loud stadium)...so it got magnified. But on the no-pressure, he looked a heck of a lot better than the week before...albeit later in the game after he started getting hit you could see even in the no pressure he wasn't finishing his throws...which led to some misses down the field. But all of these are opportunities...opportunities to grow and develop so hopefully Caleb, Moore and Rome can work this week on some of those issues to clean them up. Hopefully line can work on some of their presnap issues and clean that up - cause a lot of this seemed like communication (not all). From QB to wideouts being off synch...oline being off synch on protections and snap counts...not necessarily crappy players..albeit on the oline that may be playing into it. And on the QB side - learning to beat the blitz is one of the first real challenges I believe any rookie QB is going to go through. But hopefully Caleb takes this as yet another opportunity to develop and grow. If he does - I really think we'll be having a very different, and more positive conversation about Caleb 3 weeks from now as he enters the 2nd quarter of the season.
  13. I won't compare this to the Browns game. Caleb had almost 175 yards and had a clean first half. The Browns game was a disaster from beginning to end. Not saying this was great - it just wasn't to that same level of bad.
  14. The only positive I can say about this is - they are still 1-1, that is where I expected them to be at this point in the season. They also just went up against 2 of the better defensive fronts they will face. They got owned - but now lets see how they can pick themselves up and adjust. Lets see how Caleb can use these first 2 challenges to grow. He was significantly better from Week 1 to Week 2. Good...no...but he got the ball out in a hurry and while he still left big plays on the field...I'm confident he is going to start converting those (and sooner vs. later). They have a lot to clean-up, but he was getting ball out in a hurry in the non-blitz...huge improvement from week before. Now he's got to work on the blitz and the hot reads, but he is changing plays at the line and still making largely pretty good reads and progressing through his reads. Now we do need to keep him upright cause that is WAY too many hits for a QB to take and we are lucky he isn't getting put on IR after the beating he took yesterday. The offense needs to clean things up, especially in the run game...Herbert and Swift have shown they can run the ball - so I tend to think this is either scheme or execution...most likely both. Maybe they have gotten overly complex....but probably need to simplify the block schemes a bit.
  15. For some reason we see Homer and Everett instead of any of our top backs or Kmet on 3rd down. It’s putrid by Waldron.
  16. Morgan did pretty good under Getsy from a run blocking perspective. I think Waldron hasn’t figured his unit out yet. He may just suck - I don’t know but he leaves a lot to be desired thus far. Oline was awful..Caleb wasn’t good but he was better than the previous week and damn did he take some shots. You can see he still needs to build chemistry with his wideouts etc. At least we saw Kmet a bit..every time he was targeted something good happened.
  17. He would be for a 2nd rounder too - it’s not happening. I doubt they would get a 3rd or 4th…but all of this is why they should have kept Justin Fields…cause they might have gotten a 2nd or 3rd at this point for him….but I get the distraction part of it.
  18. It sounds liek Flus is a bit concerned with Odunze's knee. I'm a bit worried here - hopefully it is minor and no longer term issues/concerns.
  19. I was having flashbacks of that game too. We need Ryan Bates healthy quick cause Shelton was abused in week 1. With that said - Caleb finally sees a real defense (preseason doesn’t count)….so this is first step of development now to see how he grows and emerges this first quarter of the season. Taking the season as week 1 is the throwaway and now we have 4 quarters of the season left - looking for growth in each quarter out of Caleb.
  20. I hope you are right. I think our d is overhyped. Dline has serious flaws in my opinion that prevent it from being top 5. They will have room to beef up via next draft and / or free agency (just like the oline)…but I think this is more a 5-10 defense than a top 5 due to in my opinion a mediocre dline.
  21. Welcome aboard - let’s go Bears!!!
  22. Will be curious to see who they pick up tomorrow. Clear there will be a bit more churn still. Not overly surprised though with any of the moves - other than say Stroman and Carter. For those wondering - Hosmer sticks around not because he is a good running back but because he’s a really good special teams player. Carl Jones is a guy I liked at Lb so hope to see him make practice squad.
