  1. One other thing - to my point of have Caleb play the 1s. I don’t know if others have seen this or maybe I’m wrong, but I have taken note that Caleb is getting vast majority of his snaps against the 1s. Bears will occasionally work in 2s in with 1s but not as much of first team offense working against b defense. Like it - let iron sharpen iron and not baby this thing up for Caleb. I also think it is a good sign that Bears don’t see need to give him some “easier” reps. Felt like with Fields and Mitch they did it (in fairness they weren’t opening day starters either).
  2. For me part of it is - I don’t want Caleb playing against 2’s and 3’s. No benefit to Caleb and injury risk that some guy trying to make a name clobbers one of our starters just doesn’t add up. This is me presuming Texans wouldn’t see any need to start 1s. If they were playing ones than I would be in. My guess is Caleb just plays in game 2 and 3.
  3. They also get to spread guaranteed over the 6 years I think so that probably helps the cap situation, especially when Rome and Caleb are coming due. Fun to see Bears able to extend some existing talent (albeit I really look forward to getting to point it’s our home grown talent being extended like this :)). Kmet still only one I can think of…hopefully we start seeing an era where lots of our own draft picks are getting taken care of like this!!! But I lile message this sends. Highly productive player who has been great in lockeroom and community and taking care of him. Shows Poles understands pecking order and what is necessary and how to handle.
  4. I was hoping FLlorio somehow was off.
  5. This - I don't think this is an area I would cave if I were the Bears. Having that protection basically ensures Caleb is a Bear for 7 years and if nothing else ensures if Caleb ultimately balled out and liked it here so little, the Bears would at least have the leverage after year 5 to franchise and trade him. Getting rid of that franchise basically puts the Bears in a tougher spot where they would have that pressure applied more deeply in years 3 or 4 (again this is presuming he balls out). Odds are 95% of the time it won't come that way - cause if Caleb crushes it they will offer him a ton of money - but if Caleb got this in - and played excellent - he would have leverage as a UFA like no other player at a prime position would ever had (26 year old all pro QB as a UFA - that is unheard of and I could see a scenario where 3 or 4 years in, Caleb waiting that extra year to secure the BAG would be worth it. I really hope this is a big rumor and not actually the case.
  6. I hope it gets resolved this week and it is more of they are waiting to ink them both at the same time and just have some very small things to wrap up.
  7. Williams is either going to bust or be really good. I say that because the stories seem to imply he has that Kobe-esque work ethic. Like he flat out puts in the work when he's out there and has a desire to be great, not good, not merely okay, not above average, but ELITE. That drive is going to rub some the wrong way and it could blow up in his face if he struggles and rubs people wrong way getting mad or whatever -> but channeled right - it could lead to true greatness.
  8. I had heard some comments about that and I think field(s) might have even implied that. I think it was more a subtle component that sometimes having a vet QB around isn't a good thing. In this case - I'm going to presume some truth to both sides of the equation, I also don't think Field(s) looking at his phone in this scenario is why he didn't end up being good either. For whatever reason he just couldn't make that leap during his time with the Bears -> I don't expet him to with the Steelers but his raw tools are still tantalizing and I do believe even if he can't make a material leap, he can still make modest progress in that area and that is good enough to be a mediocre starting QB in this league.
  9. I think Scott will surprise us in a good way this year.
  10. They will definitely add another pass rusher - won’t be a great player but it will be someone. My guess is a Ngakoue will be back. They clearly need to upgrade next year cause outside of Sweat the line is pretty meh. Rushing attack should be solid with Swift, Herbert Johnson but a huge pass to being #1 rushing attack was having Justin Fields. So no - I don’t think this is the NFL’s top rushing defense - solid, yes, but not top5.
  11. Vegas has him at like 3600 yard's or something as his over under. I also think if you are saying those are the high probability yet those are 6th best all-time that probably says that isn't "High Probability". Do I think he is capable, certainly, I also think there is a large number of really talented #1 overall picks who had their fair share of struggles in their first year, as that adjustment takes time.
  12. Plus I think if you wait until after the draft the signing(s) don't count to the comp pick formula, so I presume there is a wave of free agency we will see take off once the comp impacts are gone. My guess is also the more time you can wait on Connor the better cause you have a better idea of his general health/recovery from the injury.
  13. I agree - I think people are overating a strong finish. The dline has Sweat who came out on fire - but it is still on the mediocre side. DB's look good but are young so can take a step back vs. forward and we literally played so few quality QB's all year. Do I think the D is solid - sure, but this is not a top 5 D, I would argue it might be a Top 10 D. Note: I am very happy with direction of the team - but I think we have a lot of overhyping potentially going on here. Just like with the team won 7 games but its now destined for 11. We had some win's against really really bad teams and yes we had some tough losses but at same time we benefited from playing teams with hurt QB's, etc (as did teams with us).
  14. Wow - I had no idea. I was thinking they were like a d2 school.
  15. He is a legit weapon. And they jumped back in for a defender in 5th.
  16. I’m starting to get real excited about him. His character and work ethic is stellar and when you see a Fitzgerald comp thrown out - man if he can be 80 percent of Fitz they got a total stud.
  17. If they go all offense - I’ll throw out Tennessee running back (Wrigth), his USC teammate (Rice), or Van Pratt as my picks. If they go defense - I’m hoping the Oregon dlinemen is still on the board.
  18. I think they are going to have to live with that this year and than next offseason they can address it - whether via free agency, the draft or both. Back to your point - they are focused on building a culture and continuing to develop roster while also putting Caleb in a great spot to develop. I think if all goes right they can make a run at 10 games - but let’s get it right and than add another wave of talent next year (maybe even a trade acquisition).
  19. Well said and I agree - we have two really good vets and both hopefully will help Rome (and Scott) and heck maybe even Velus (cause Velus physical skills are legitimately good).
  20. Rodgers is a really good comp.
  21. I agree - I see him getting another dline or two on one year deals - whether 2nd wave of free agency or post draft cut.
  22. This is well said - I would be shocked if they like Van Pratt if they move up - maybe Borom and our 4th to move up a few or a next year 5th or 6th to move up 5-10 spots.
