  1. I would be shocked if Flacco was available when the Bears picked in the 2nd round, which probably means he won't be a Bear. The only QB the Bears would take at 14 is Matt Ryan and I'd be stunned to see him fall that far. With Andre Woodson and Brennan's stock falling, you could maybe see the Bears hold out and wait till day 2 and get a steal with Woodson or Colt (for all of there flaws, they have some pretty good ability).
  2. I would give up something for Huff because I think it would be a nice pickup, but it definitely wouldn't be a super high pick (ie, not a 1st or 2nd round pick). I don't know how he's played but I know Huff is a tremendous athlete and I think his speed and athletism would fit great on the Bears.
  3. I think the Bears plan on targeting a FA WR (or via trade), plus drafting a WR on day one with Hester and Bradley getting significant time. In terms of the oline, I'm thinking we will see a day one pick on the line (1st round or 2nd) plus a signing (and I don't think it will be a Faneca type, rather just a solid, younger guard that will be above average, maybe not a pro-bowler but with solid guys around it will be good enough to have a pretty damn solid line).
  4. Marion Barber will not be let go. The only way Barber isn't in Dallas is if Dallas moves up and grabs McFadden and I think that is a pure rumor at its finest (ie, Jerry Jones went to Arkansas therefor he'll do anything to get this stud that played there). I am getting more and more excited about Rashard Mendenhall. He had some solid 40 times today, is strong and a great receiver out of the backfield. I think he would be a tremendous asset on the offensive side of the ball. I know it is a deep RB draft though so they could always wait and hope one of Felix Jones/Stewart and whomever else is there in the 2nd (I would be stunned if that happened though) but I really don't think you can go wrong with any of the top 4 backs in this draft. And good god, did anyone see McFadden's 40 time. Between his legit running skills and now the measurables I think he has probably guaranteed himself of going top 10 and is the #1 back in the draft with Rashard/Stewart/Jones all a bit behind.
  5. I wonder if the Bears will get a 4th round pick or something along those lines for Griese or if they will have to release him straight up.
  6. I like this because come December and January (hopefully we will be playing in January) it becomes more and more important to be able to run bigger two te sets in cold weather places and knowing you can have Olsen, whose a great blocker and a receiver as well as Clark (who you can end up splitting out wide as a receiver) could really create matchup problems. I also like this because it is the second time this week that the Bears have rewarded one of there guys for working hard and having the right attitude (Alex Brown's extension was the first, now Clark, Orton will be next and than Urlacher). They are sending out the right message and I hope other players in the organization (including Tommie Harris and maybe even guys like Briggs/Berrian) see this and realize that it may be better to stick around with an organization that actually takes care of its guys.
  7. Considering there is some depth at WR this year, but little top notch WR talent (ie a top 10 pick at the position) I find it unlikely that Hardy would be there in the 2nd round and I doubt the Bears would go WR in RD 1 (unless they trade down). Hardy would be a stellar value pick in the 2nd, but right now I'm thinking the Bears are going to go oline, QB, WR/RB.
  8. This is a very deep RB draft. My only real issue is that the Bears have 3 players on the roster. We know Peterson is not a starter, Wolfe was just selected and therefor is going to be on the roster (but he doesn't have the skill-set of a starter) and Benson is injury prone. So the question is will they carry 4 backs and if they do why not take one in the draft (afterall, this year if you take a back in the early third, your getting a guy that would grade out in a typical draft as a 2nd round back). The tackles and backs in this draft are a very very strong class.
  9. This trade has me excited, real excited.
  10. This move surprises me, but I expect Booker to sign quickly. Booker will replace Moose as the veteran presence (quietly the Bears get a bit younger with Booker and more importantly they get a guy who I think JA likes, character/attitude wise). THey'll also save money. Than I think you'll see them make a fair offer to Berrian and than after that move forward and maybe consider the trade market to replace BB.
  11. This is one guy, out of all the others, I wouldn't mind bringing back at a discount. He was horrid last year but he has a history of being good and I wouldn't mind taking a shot on him if necessary (just to assure depth). Than again I'm not against what the Bears currently have on the roster either, especially if Dusty/Harris were healthy as I think the two of them are above average DT's (well I'm not really going out on a limb with Harris, considering a healthy harris is the best DT in football).
  12. This was a no brainer. Thats not to say the Bears couldn't renegotiate with him but there was no way he was going to get the amount he was due this year. I thank him for a great 06 and hope to hell the Bears can seriously upgrade the position in 07 because he was the worse starter on the squad last year.
  13. I think this is a good sign as it means Brown will likely get a lot more playing time and thats good. A, because Brown is a very good all around end and B, because it means Anderson will be more appropriately used (as a pass rushing specialist who will slowly develop, hopefully, into a more complete end). I really am happy with this move and while I like Moose, if the Bears can pick up BOoker and than do something with Berrian or find a replacment I'll be happy with the WR core (than its just a matter of the oline and possibly the backfield.
  14. I think Booker will be Moose's replacement and that the Bears will go for Berrian if they can get him (maybe even give him some sort of tag), otherwise they'll look the trade or FA market.
  15. He was really the first hybrid safety (ie, super quick and super strong). The guy was already on most people's boards as a potential first rounder (he was great at ASU) and than his combine just shot him up even farther.
  16. Kiper was on saying that without a great combine, Brennan is now a 2nd day pick (he has him pegged as a potential 5th rounder) and that Woodson is also a 2nd day picked (the two of them were rated behind a long list of other QB's). He said Flacco is the one guy that could just jump like crazy as more and more teams see his release (which Kiper said was impressive) and just see how the ball just pops out if his hand with velocity. The more I see it, the more I don't think Flacco is there in the 2nd round and if the Bears really want him they'd probably have to take him at 14 (if he has an awesome combine). Of course if he was there at 2 I'd be all over it as I've fallen in love with Joe Flacco.
  17. Fred Miller was a walking turnstyle and has too big of a bonus. Sure the team could restructure, but I just don't see it making sense, unless of course they feel there are more pressing needs than the oline and if that was the case i honestly don't know what team JA and the staff was watching last year.
  18. I am looking more forward to the draft, simply because I'll be working normal hours at that time and will be able to actually read and stay up to date with what is going on. When it comes to FA, I won't have a clue what is going on based on a hectic work schedule. Either way I'm just hopeful that the Bears make the necessary moves to get the franchise back on the path it was headed in just a year ago. The thing I'm not looking forward to is the long gap between the draft and football.
  19. IF he was patient he wouldn't have gotten Moose. Moose was the most saught after guy that year. IIRC, Desmon Mason was also cut around that same period and the Bears opted to go with Moose (Plax was a FA that year too). I can't say for sure about Jones but Moose would have been signed immediately for lots of money by someone else had it not been the Bears. I anticipate if the Bears are interested in Faneca, that we will know right away. If they aren't, maybe JA jumps out on the guy he wants early (while other teams are busy waiting on Faneca to commit). We shall see, but I expect an olineman via the draft and FA, plus a WR (Berrian or a FA/draft pick), a RB to compete with Benson, a QB via the draft (not 1st round), and a safety.
  20. I think the key with Faneca is that he can come in and be next to Kreutz and Tait to give you a real dominate side of the line while the Bears draft a tackle to start working on the other side (and the other guard spot I think they can fill in house with there current options, whether that means Garza or old man Brown). Faneca and a 1st round tackle could have the Bears line as one of the best in football in no time. However, they could also opt to go with Max Starks or someone else that is younger and than take a non tackle in the first round (go with a skill player on offense or someone like Phillips at safety or even a trade down) and than grab one of the best guards in the draft in rd 2.
  21. If the Bears want him as depth than I don't have a problem with it. He isn't very expensive and is a good guy plus I think he'd be a quality special teams guy (maybe would help semi make up for Abandeyjo going elsewhere, which I think will happen).
  22. I don't think the Bears have a player on the roster that they would be willing to deal that could net them a 2nd round pick. The only potential guy that would even come close would be someone like Mark Anderson and I don't think he would get a 2nd rounder nor do I think the Bears would deal him. I wouldn't be surprised if the Bears do try to shore up the dline, especially given the fact that there are health issues surrounding the two best tackles, however, they have a good amount of money and talent on that line and my guess is you'll see them sign a veteran who is cut (or just stick with that Oregon guy that they signed late last season that impressed) and go with the rest of the guys they have (aside from Walker, who I think is as good as gone).
  23. SO Anderson is the better fit for the 3-4, correct (since he's more athletic). I'd give up our 2nd, a future 1st, and Anderson. Again, I think it is a pipe dream given the financial rammifications that I assume would happen if Quinn was dealt as opposed to Anderson (not a cap expert but I assume financially it is smarter to keep Quinn and trade the RFA than trading Quinn and than resigning the RFA to a fat deal) but if the Browns wanted to go with the more proven QB I'd gladly take Brady.
  24. If Brady Quinn is truly on the trading block I would give up a 2nd rounder and a future 2nd rounder to get him. I don't have a clue if that would be enough. I'd also give up our future 1st (But we have dire needs on the oline that I wouldn't give up this years first) to get him. Heck, I don't know where the Browns stand on the dline, but if I had to give up a 2nd rounder, a future 2nd, and Alex Brown for Quinn I'd do it. He's better than any of the QB prospects in this years draft and you could get him without losing a first rounder. Plus he's a year into the league which makes him all that much more closer. You would have Kyle/Brady/Griese or Grossman (I don't know) and let them battle it out. Obviously Quinn would be the front-runner given his tools and the fact that the team would have just acquired him but I could see far dumber things to do (Plus he's a good fit for our offense as he would be awesome at finding the TE's, has the arm strenght to throw down field, and is very accurate). Good god of any option I've seen all off-season if the Browns are truly willing to shop Quinn the Bears should be all over it.
