Even though it isn't Bears related, its a pretty huge piece of news. Peter King is reporting that those close to the situation indicate that they believe the injury will prevent him from playing this season. Obviously they'll know more once the MRI results are back.

Briggs chimes in on Thomas Jones trade...
DABEARSDABOMB replied to madlithuanian's topic in Bearstalk
I think everyone knows that Benson is an idiot. We didn't need Briggs to go out and talk about this. This defense does nothing but talk and its why they haven't produced on the field in over a year. -
We are having some serious problems with the post table getting corrupted on a consistent basis. It could be a relatively extended outage or thats how it looks as of now.
-
We had a server error and we are reindexing on the background and this process could cause a couple additional outings over the next 24 hours, but after that the site should be back to 100%. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up (server first crashed this morning).

I've complained heavily about his lack of production in the preseason but I'm willing to give him a pass, but if we don't see production in the first couple games I think it is only fair to point out that it shouldn't come as a shock given a lackluster preseason and training camp. When I saw him on the football field, he just looked slow.

Lets even look at a guy like Parcells. He takes over a franchise, whats he do, he gets rid of guys that don't fit his system and does what he needs to to get the personell that does fit. The reality is in the NFL, more so than any other sport, you need to make sure you and the GM/Player Personsell peeps are on the same page so you are getting talent that fits what you do. Coaches in the NFL can make certain adjustments based on unique personell (ie, a good OC will adjust to put in more wrinkles to an offense if there is a player like Bush/Hester (ie, explosive) or say a Kordell (who could throw/receive). However, they won't completely build there offense/defense around that new wrinkle. The reality is a coach in the NFL is much like a pitcher. They will use what they got. In a coaches mind, that would be the particular system (for Lovie its cover two, for some college coaches, your talking spread offense). A pitcher, they got to where they were because of say a 100MPH fastball or a knee buckling curve. You aren't going to all of a sudden ask that pitcher to try to get guys out in a key situation with that changeup. Just like a coach isn't going to magically change to the West Coast, something that he clearly doesn't have the knowledge to operate effectively. If the Bears don't believe in the Cover 2, its there job to fire the coach since he believes in the Cover 2. Lovie shouldn't have to adjust or get rid of the scheme. Now should they add wrinkles to the scheme, absolutely, and thats why Rivera was a good fit (he brought unique ideas to Lovie's staple). Babich is just shit.
-
Well you have to realize the scheme helped get Lovie to this point. If I were him I woudln't go away from it either. Obviously you should make tweaks to your system based upon your personell but you can't just magically turn into a 3-4 coach. I mean, should Phil Jackson just go away from the triangle offense?

Prior to tearing up his knee during the Super Bowl season. Essentially the second Harris got hurt, the Bears defense started going downhill.
-
This was the big reason I was hesitant to give him a fat extension. Over the past two seasons he has done nothing but battle knee problems. We haven't seen Tommie Harris at 100% in a long time and I wonder if we ever will. Sure he's a good tackle when playing banged up, but he's elite when healthy and the Bears paid him like an elite tackle. I love Harris personality and leadership so I hope this really isn't an issue and that he truly will be 100% for most of this season.
-
What happened to him. I loved him coming out of college. In fact, an ACL injury and hamstring injury were basically what kept him out. This guy is a very good athlete and showed signs of being very healthy in his final two preseason games. I'd take him over Booker and most of our WR corps. Plus he proved that he could stay healthy in college and high school, which you can't necessarily say about Bradley.
-
It may have more to do with the Bears believing that they could slide Bowman onto the practice squad while McBride would surely get picked up.
-
Is this guy any good?
-
Jason, you honestly have to be the only person in the world that would call the Bears WR corps talented.
-
Yep. If you want to talk about major busts, you'd have to point at Cedric, Haynes, etc. They were first round picks and when you miss on those they have to be considered busts (heck, even Columbo). However, there was solid rationale behind the picks which makes me less hesitant to truly rip Angelo for such. Of course the other luxury pick I'd have major issues with was Devin Hester as I felt it was completely assinine to take him when we did (given the other needs the club had). But it ended up turning into one hell of a pick.
-
Shove it. This isn't a place for two people to continue to make personal attack at each other after personal attack. Put each other on ignore lists because your treatment of each other won't be tolerated on this site.
-
Bazuin is easily Angelo's worse pick since becoming GM. He took a reach of a DE in the 2nd round when the team already had Anderson, Ogunleye, & Brown and had severe needs all across the offense.
-
I've long said that this team has a chance to be absolutely horrendous. If the defense remembers how to play, maybe the team lucks out and goes 7-9 or 8-8. But if it just repeats what it did last year, we are talking about a 2-4 win team.
-
The problem lies with the players and staff. They all think they are freakin great and rely on that so called greatness. I got news for you, great defenses dont' finish 28th in the league in the past year (injuries or not). And yes I realize injuries were a big problem but all I ever hear out of the players and coaches mouths are excuses for why they didn't do this and that...how about they go freakin out there and realize they haven't played right and actually fix things (instead of the stupid, oh were rusty bullshit).
-
Again, I still think when it comes to QB's a lot of there success rides upon the system they enter. In fact, I'd probably go as far as saying that 65% of there success is based upon them and about 35% depends on the situation they enter (it could even be higher than 35%). By situation, I mean offensive system, offensive weapons, coaching staff, etc.
-
Nice to note the franchise has enough money to trade for Boldin and give him some money.
-
No way do you trade Jones. The whole point in bringing him in was to have a veteran who can share the workload with Forte. Rookie rb's hit a wall and the best way to handle them is to have someone else split carries with them so you can get positive production from that rookie RB throughout the season (ideally in a method that the Colts used in Addai's rookie season).

Moose raved about Rex for two years and than as soon as he got cut after having a piss poor year the story changed. The guy was just downright selfish.
-
Dusty was once again a beast. He moves interior lineman like a madman. I really hope he stays healthy because he's got one hell of a motor. Needs to stay in his gaps better, but damn he's got a motor.
-
I'm starting to think that Kyle does a better job calling pass protection than Rex. I don't know how involved a QB is in pass protection but I'm certain there is some involvement. The only possible contradiction to that is Rex never got much pressure during the Super Bowl season (because last year and this preseason the line has been far better for Kyle than Rex).
-
Did you have the national feed or some other feed? I'm a big Aikman fan and he was raving about Rex the teammate. I don't think he'd be saying that nor do I think we'd have had so many Bears player stick up for Rex over the past few years (despite the few comments from people like Tank Johnson and Ron Rivera) if they didn't genuinely like the guy.
