  1. Total legend and from what it sounds like just a great individual as well. RIP and nothing but loves and prayers to his family and friends.
  2. Williams is not visiting with the Bears this week - he is visiting with them right after his pro day. Williams did meet with Bears at the combine. I think originally Poles wanted to have his meeting later this week - the presumption now is, Bears heard more than enough to answer their questions and decided to wait and tackle around the pro day which is the more traditional timing. If you read Breer's piece closely you can see it mentions that somewhere. I will notate - part of this is speculation. Basically put - it implied that the Bears have been super aggressive with Caleb and his camp all off-season thus far and so far every box has been checked, so much so that the Bears are comfortable easing off a bit and I presume will refocus on other off-season items.
  3. It isn't true. Breer isn't making it up, Biggs isn't making it up, etc. And if it were true - every talking head on ESPN would be talking all about it.
  4. Where are you reading this? All I saw was reports about him visiting with Bears at combine (he met with them and later there was also a meeting with Caleb's team). All reports are that those conversations went very well.
  5. I would love Rome or Nabers at 9 - but Alt would be my first choice at 9. Highly unlikely but dang is he going to be a monster lt.
  6. I worry about the Steelers off field stuff but I would be fine with Diontae and a pick for Justin
  7. I’m sick of the Caleb is a prick narrative. Instead here are some examples of how he is a good dude:
  8. There was a deep dive done a week or so ago…I got to find the link. It talked about how long Williams held the ball and how the analytics person was very concerned. He than broke it down to how often he holds to pass and how much time he creates. It turns out the most comparable college player to Williams from TTT and effective scramble time was Aaron Rodgers. Both Rodgers and Williams had an ability over multiple seasons to move around in and around the pocket and buy far more time to make down field passing plays. When they took splits further they realized Williams standard deviaition is extreme - he has tons of plays with low TTT but than when he does scramble he buys more time than anyone to throw. It goes back to - he isn’t fields. Who had similar TTT but standard deviaition was extremely high TTT and it was a lot of unforced rushes and created pressures. Williams might bust but I really only see him busting due to injury. I think he is going to be a solid NFL starter with high end upside. Not going to say he is the next Mahomes or Brady cause well that just isn’t fair. And this stupid stuff about his dad. Have you seen his dad in front of the media on all the combine stuff this weekend? I haven’t seen him all over tv or anything just some nasty media people doing what they do…kind of like that nasty report a few years ago that implied Fields was lazy. His dad is involved and engaged but he isn’t this dope a lot on here make him out to be. The Lavar Ball comps are nuts - that guy was everywhere and anywhere overstepping his son. Carl is the opposite - he is engaged but behind the scenes and doing what he thinks is best for his son. Never have I got this view it is all about Carl - with Lavar it was always all about him. That toxicity is from teams trying to do anything to push a narrative to get what they want. Like all this no Bears talk - guarantee that was from other teams in draft pushing a bias to see if they could make it a thing. When you here Caleb talk - you don’t here one drop of it. He just wants to be a top pick and be great. Is he arrogant - yes but so is every all time great qb.
  9. Not that it matters as it is one combine, but from my eye Bo Nix did not look like an NFL starter. McCarthy has tools tools tools and Penix can fling it. Tennessee qb has a hell of an arm. Rome is clearly a top 10 pick and Legette sure looks the part. One of my favorite 2nd tier wideouts. Such a good wide out crop.
  10. I think I am leaning to drafting Turner at 9 , signing Mike Evans, and drafting another wideout in 3rd round. Use pick you get for Fields on oline and another pick on safety. I would be open to signing one of the running backs to a deal to help Caleb. Barkley or Ekler (banged up but so good as a receiver). I presume they can get Evans for big money but without a ton of years and even after taking Turner they should have cap space for a free agent oline or dlinemen plus maybe grab a safety?
  11. I do agree - Bears should drive up leverage now - but bird in the hand by later this week is the right move and right thing across all paths. Especially if we are getting a 2nd - push the price up from there - see if you can get an extra 2nd or a 3rd rounder this year.
  12. Yeah - and I'll be honest, I have no issue with this deal. I also don't have an issue if Bears than opt to move down a few spots from 8 (to a team wanting a QB) and pick up another 2nd round pick. Given the wideout and oline depth in this draft - I would love to have 2 picks in 2nd round to address those spots.
  13. Oh - I misread it the other way and was still good - but yes - I agree with you - getting 8 and a 2nd rounder for Fields is ridiculously good (but I don't see that happening in a million years). Getting 8 for Fields would be incredible in and of itself (and I'll be honest - I see zero scenario that is realistic). Now a scenario where Bears get 2nd rounder this year and than a conditional 1st next year (or no worse than 2nd). Say if he makes the pro bowl it becomes a 1st (or throws X TD's or whatever it is) and if he doesn't, than we get a 2nd...that seems like solid value.
  14. I would be okay with Bears getting #8 overall for Fields and one of our 2nd rounders next year. I would than have the Bears probably move down with one of the #8 or #9 picks to get back a 2nd rounder this year or more. Or I would just be fine with it (next year the Bears would still have all of their picks - they just lose the Panthers 2nd rounder) and in this draft they could take QB at #1, OT/DT/WR at 8 & 9. I would argue go all offense - so take QB at 1, LT at 8, WR at 9...than write a giant check for Hunter (FA) and resign Jaylon Johnson. Draft another wideout or sign Samuel or whomever in FA (or for all I care bring back Mooney on 1yr prove it deal).
  15. Flus just said - his #1 trait in a QB he is looking for - 4th quarter and late in game close score situations. If that isn't telling, I don't know what is. It's pretty clear to me they are moving Fields.
  16. I think on your point that a QB has a 66% chance of being a top 2 QB is something I can't see. There are 32 starting QB's in the NFL - one is Patrick Mahomes. So odds that in a given year I have a 2/3rd's chance that I am going to get someone who is either better than Patrick Mahomes or better than Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and whomever you have on that next tier seems off the mark. Now if you say - odds are 50/50 that he is a top 7 QB - than I can maybe get into that window. I think when it comes to deciding who is a top 2 QB it gets really hard. I mean just look at the last handful of those guys - only Peyton Manning was a #1 overall picks (and this is coming from someone who supports taking a QB early). Otherwise - If I think back to the last 15 years - at different point(s) in their careers - these 5 stand out the most: Tom Brady - We know the story Mahomes - Taken after a few others Rodgers - Fell in the draft Drew Brees - 2nd round pick (or last pick in 1st round - don't recall) Peyton Manning - #1 overall Next Wave: Big Ben - High pick - but not top 5 Josh Allen - High pick - but not #1 overall (and he needs to win a superbowl I think to get into the next list) Lamar Jackson - Late 1st rounder Eli Manning - High pick - I don't know if I want to rate him but I guess i will Matt Ryan - might be stretching, but #1 overall
  17. I think of it more like - if reality is - picking QB's is really a bit of a crapshoot - than just build the better team and have the bullets. I still have zero problem with stick at 1, trade down to 13 with raiders to pick up a 2nd rounder - than draft either a wideout at 13 and a linemen with 2nd rounder (or with the pick(s) we get for Fields or do the opposite and take an olinemen at 13 and wideout(s) later.
  18. And I do agree - in "Da Haul" scenario, where Bears end up with 2 top 10 picks this year, 2 2nd rounders, plus 2 extra FRP next year, and 2 extra 2nd rounders, the Bears financially are getting 6 extra 1st/2nd round picks over course of this year and next year). When you think about cap situations and locking in that many picks for the next 4-5 years, that is the equivalent to a "rookie year" QB contract, thus you really shouldn't have any concern with the impact a Justin Fields (or massive FA signing) would have on you. You also still have every ability to use one of those picks on trying to find the next QB - while knowing they will walk into an organization that should look VERY stable with blue-chip talent all around it (even if some of the picks don't hit). So in reality - "Da Haul" gives you 6 extra 1st and 2nd round picks (2 extra FRP, 4 extra 2RP's) plus positions yourself you to have cap space like a team with a rookie QB (even if you paid a QB) because the value of having so many high round picks allows you to have more FA cap space as you otherwise would. The challenge will be 4-5 years down the road - Poles has to be smart and know how to play his hand and decide who to extent vs. who to trade early so they effectively manage their cap space (and quite frankly - consistently leverage the draft capital they leveraged to continue to multiply). Kind of like a good investor can turn their first million into 100 million way faster cause they have enough starting capital.
  19. More I think of it - the more I would be good with either the double trade down scenario or the stick at 1 or single trade down scenario (if I can get a 2nd and a future first plus the 2 pick that is probably worth it), than move Fields. Basically put - Poles just has to pick the right guys - he does that and any of these scenarios work really well. I do think the lowest risk scenario is the double trade down…you just have so many options to hit blue chippers, with the main risk that you miss the big blue chip but you make up for that with more chances to take a swing.
  20. I'll be clear - I have been on the draft a QB bandwagon - however, I will state very clearly - I would have zero issue if the Bears made that move and I don't believe what King is proposing is unrealistic. Bears at 8 & 9 can take 2 of (top 3 WR, Top 2 LT, Top Dline). They would than have 2 2nd round picks - one could address center and in this draft, I would actually suggest the other addresses (wideout). But you could also, if you wanted to - use one of those 2nd rounders on whatever QB prospect fell (whether Nix or Penix)...but one of them would be there. Cap wise - you actually should be able to make another big signing or two - in particular I would say on the dline where there is more talent in FA than some of the other positions. I say this knowing yeah, if Fields works out you are paying him, but you also have 3 1st round picks and 3 2nd rounders in 25 which puts you in an incredible spot to built a really good team.
  21. It should be back to normal tomorrow. Google made a change in their algorithm but I think I figured out how to turn that off.
  22. I like this trade down from 9 to 13. https://sports.yahoo.com/bears-trade-back-first-round-001109761.html
