QB: cutler will obviously start, but hoyer is a great backup. He is at least a guy who can come in and win a game or two if cutler goes down (especially with the easy schedule) RB: I really think Howard and Langford will split time. This is such a John Fox backfield with one bigger between the tackles guy (howard) and a speedier,outside the tackles guy (Langford). ie. Anderson and hillman, stewart and Williams. Carey and Rodgers could be in a dogfight, though fox supposedly really likes carey TE: big time need here - weakest part of the roster WR: Alshon, White, Royal, Wilson, Braverman, Mariani, Bellamy/Meredith OL: Tons of competition at all spots, weakest spot is probably LT, and even though Whitehair isn't a pro-level LT, could probably play there in a pinch. Here are the list of rotation guys who could conceivably play these positions - lots of options and fluidity LT: Leno, Long? Whitehair in an emergency LG: Slauson, Ramirez, Whitehair C: Grassu, slauson, Ramirez, whitehair? LG: Long, Slauson, Ramirez RT: Massie, Long in a pinch (though I think this experiment is over) Defense has a great blend of veterans and young guys. CB is probably biggest soft spot still, also depth at DE DE: Bullard, Sutton, Unrein DT: Goldman, Hicks, Ferguson? DE: Hicks, Ferguson, Washington? OLB: McPhee, Houston ILB: Trevathan, Kwiatkowski, Jones, Anderson ILB: Freeman, Timu, Acho OLB: Floyd, Young CB: Fuller, Hall SS: Rolle, Bush, prosinski FS: Amos, Houston-Carson, Jones-quartey CB: Porter, Callahan

whats interesting is that all of the stats seem to love willie young, especially for the price we got him at. Im sure it helped having suh and fairley in the middle, but in passing situations i foresee houston bumping inside with allen on the other side, this guy could get a ton of pressure

the two teams are extremely similar in my opinion on O the QBs may be a bit different style wise, but both are roughly similar in terms of overall talent level. Both have top notch WRs followed by thin WR corps after. Both have big question marks on the OL (I actually think the bears shockingly have the advantage here). Gresham/Eifert gets a small leg up on Bennett at TE, while Forte/Bush has a leg up on Bernard/BJGE On the Dline- both have stud DTs in atkins and melton, bears get the overall edge with peppers. Both have solid all pros veteran OLBs in Briggs and Harrison, and young and upcoming ILBs in Burfict and Bostic. In the secondary the bears have more overall playmakers, but Nelson at S and Hall at CB are definitely above average.

yeah speed was certainly NOT the issue....dude ran 4.4 officially and they unofficially had him a 4.24 ....for a Safety both times are fast (the 4.24 is ridiculous), and for a safety his size, even in the 4.4 area you are talking about elite size and speed (in terms of measurables not too unlike urlacher coming out of college) the knock on him is that he hasn't been good in coverage (so our coaching staff should love him at safety) and he wasn't a big play maker on the ball in college....at least not this past year when didn't have 3 above average NFL linebackers playing front of him

I'll get roasted for saying this, but I'm fine with trading brown....Alex brown is the Joe Crede of the bears....loved by fans, but way overrated on the field....especially now...brown was a much better player 3 or 4 years ago when he was quick off the ball and could beat guys off the edge...his career high in sacks for one season? 7. He has had 6 the last two years, which frankly, for an every down DE is not very good...especially in this system when you need guys the DEs getting upfield and at the QB to force him to get rid of the ball early. I can't find any statistics on this, but to my untrained eye, Brown used to force QBs into throwing early and making mistakes alot more than he does now. To Brown's credit, he is a very nice run defending DE, but thats not exactly the primary role of right end in the 4-3. Also...the bears need to acquire draft picks. Peppers is going play everydown at one end spot, and they have enough options in Anderson, Idonije, Gilbert to make up for the loss of an aging Brown. That said I can't think we get anymore than a third round draft pick for him. His sack numbers were less than those of Gaines Adams the last 2 years, and Adams had age on his side, Brown doesn't

Suppsedly when Martz was with the Lions he gave Cutler the highest predraft grade he had ever given a QB he scouted and really really wanted him. I'm very hopeful for this, but admit there is alot of risk as well

exactly ....i love what the bears did ...its like they actually game-planned for once Our O beat the steelers D the exact way you have to....short quick passes in a more conservative, west coast style offense with short 3 step drops. The steelers EXCEL at putting pressure on the qb. James harrison and Lamar Woodley are the best 3-4 LB combo in the league at getting to the QB, and the more we opened the field up deep, the more likely these guys were to pressure Cutler into either making mistakes (ie INTs), or getting sacks. Another reason I think we didn't go deep was because we had no consistent running game to draw the safeties up with play action. Now if you ask me, the game plan in seattle will be just the opposite. Run the ball against a D that got shredded by Frank Gore Sunday, and use play action and your speedy WRs to hit some big plays down the field. I just love that its extremely possible for this offense to beat a team in many different ways. IMO thats the hallmark of a great team in the NFL

i dont really get why everyone assumes Kampman will be dropping back to cover Olsen on Sunday...yes he's playing LB but that doesn't mean he's going to be dropping back into pass coverage....how often do you see james harrison turning and running for Pittsburgh....almost never...Kampman will be a pure rush line backer..in the mold of the aforementioned Harrison and Merriman...regardless it doesn't change the fact that the other LBs AJ hawk or Nick Barnett can't cover Olsen though

John Clayton says the packers linebackers are really struggling with the switch to the 3-4. If you ask me, this entire matchup screams no huddle offense (something we saw out of orton a bit last year, but not as much this preseason). A no huddle forces the packers 3-4 to remain relatively vanilla in their blitzing schemes (especially with struggling LBs). In addition, with versatility of guys like Olsen and Forte to lineup anywhere on the field, you can really take advantage of personnel mismatches all over the field, as the packers likely won't have time to switch in and out of different looks. I also think Cutler is extremely proficient in this style of play. Another packer weakness we should exploit is the NT Ryan Pickett. The guys a nice player, but you need a stud NT in the 3-4 (wilfork, williams) and Raji doesn't seem to be ready yet in GB. With a bigger guard on the left side now in Omiyale, he and Kruetz could destroy this guy, especially if we run some no huddle, leaving this guy gassed.

Rideau is going to get screwed by the coaching staffs love affair with Rashied Davis (at this point I'd rather take a look at moving Davis back to CB)

Not only was Knox the other guy the bears got with Cutler, but I believe the guy he burned on that play (Alphonso Smith) was the guy Denver traded up to get by giving up our first round pick next year (that we gave them for cutler)

i know QB rating for college QBs goes higher than it does for NFL...maybe thats a college calculator, cuz im positive NFL doesn't go higher than 150something

Orton looks decent....but he's the PERFECT qb to play against us.....dink and dunk...hasn't really tried to go downfield

O-Line is extraordinarily unimpressive against an average defensive front from the broncos at best

not surprised by the beekman comments...the guy was way better than people gave him credit for last year....on counters and sweeps where the guy was pulling behind the center or tackle, he was a beast last year...in fact both of our guards were pretty good maulers run blocking last year and didn't get as much credit for it as tehy should...such is the life of an NFL guard i suppose
