  1. given that detroit certainly knows mike martz's distaste for running the ball and tendancy to pass like 70% of the time i doubt they stacked the box against SF, but i could be wrong, didnt watch the tape i think the real forte is probably a balance between what he did against indy and what he did today....week 4 was tough, philly had the best run D in the league heading into this week (though portis lit em up)...i just appreciate that forte is so versatile and can be a great threat throwing out of the backfield
  2. D line played great....i thought those guys (especially the ends) played awful all preseason, but they came to play tonight....good push up the middle ...we look deep at tackle with harrison, dusty, izzy and tommie all looking good... i also thought josh beekman played great....maybe this guy is just a good roadgrader that needed a shot out there, cuz run blocking was there for sure from this guy
  3. this defense is built on pressure from teh front four...specifically we need our DEs to wreck havoc and not let the qb get comftorable....if the qb has time, almost any qb can pick apart the cover 2....unfortunately alex brown and ogunleye are past their primes...bazuin was a huge bust...i hope mark anderson can step up this year...the DEs HAVE to get to the qb
  4. bennett hasn't had many chances catching passes, and the two he has...he dropped em...so yeah id say hes been unimpressive outside the punt return.... however, i went to vandy so i saw bennett play just about every single game in his career.....he'll be fine and he'll stop dropping those balls...i thought it said alot that he was playing with the 1st unit last night (even though probably because davis was gone)
  5. so i think we can end the haine for starter nonsense
  6. lol the only pass cade mcnown could ever throw effectively was the deep jump ball for robinson

    Great Draft

Kiper just said on sportscenter that we helped our team the most for heading into next year...said each of our top 3 picks will help rex or grossman quite a bit...and guys like steltz and harrison are really gonna help our D at some point this season also said best undrafted player was caleb haine who was just signed with the bears edit....whups meant rex or kyle
  8. listening to JAs press conference today it sounds like there was a qb in the 4th round that they really liked and thought about taking, but they felt steltz was a starter and the qb probably wasn't....looking at what qb was drafted after craig and before bowman...it looks like we were looking at booty
  9. maybe i put it poorly, especially regarding harrison. DT was a need. Dusty is a ? and that leaves only harris who has his own injury issues and Adams as the only quality depth there. Ive heard quite the opposite on harrison as you have. Ive read that hes quick and is not a run stuffer, and is a bad fit in a 2 gap scheme, much better suited for 1 gap, with showing flashes as a plus pass rusher. Bowman I should have been more specific about as well. Like had been said before, I think he will probably have the quasi-redshirt year and take some time to develop. I think down the line he can be a starter, at nickelback perhaps by the end of next season. As solid as McBride was last year, he isn't a starter IMO. Hes a very servicable player, especially for a 7th rounder, but likely will be a back up. Will Bowman start over our 2 CBs? Almost certainly no. I guess I meant that he could be solid starter quality, which I still do think is true. BTW it seems Graham is destined to be our next ST ace, as he registered the highest ever special teams point total last year against oakland according to Toub I disagree that Steltz is a pure in the box safety. I watched alot of LSU over the last handful of years (having gone to an SEC college) and think he can play back in converage in the cover 2. (He led LSU with 6 picks last year) I also disagree in saying S is not a need. We absolutely need safety help...archuleta is on his way out, if not now then next year, and manning or brown will play free. McGowan stinks also imo, and i have never really understood why people like him. Payne i have no idea about since we didnt see him cuz of the arm injury, but i know the bears like him. My mistake here, I thought Clark was a FA this year. Still wouldnt be shocked if we pulled a Darwin Walker with him, and gave him a longer deal so he was happy, and then cut him the next year. just my two cents...either way i didnt disagree with your analysis that much. I just like taking risks in the later rounds, as the downside (a guy being a bust) is less than the potential reward. Oh and BTW I certainly agree with you that I would have loved Brohm, especially if we could have traded up to get him in the late second round.
  10. just heard kiper say he liked Caleb Haine...he thinks he will be our 3rd qb and that haine should or could have been a 5th round pick
  11. i feel like the first 3 picks were solid picks...and id grade them out as a B...nothing jumps out and says wow, but i can't knock any of the picks...all three will be solid contributors.... after the top 3, this is where I actually love our draft. Harrison and Bowman are 1st round talents we got in late rounds...which is exactly the type of players you want to target late...if they never pan out, oh well, they were low picks...but both guys could end up being solid starters...Steltz fills a position of need and he is a perfect safety for our system, his scouting report says he rarely bites on play action and gets good reads, which for a deep cover 2 safety makes up for a lack of speed, especially if we apply pressure as we should up front.... i know nothing about the OG from georgia or the DE from michigan state, but they were 7th round picks, so im not even sure they will make the team..Barton i know from watching OSU and hopefully he will help with depth The final guy I will comment on is Davis. I didn't understand this when we picked him, but I think I am beginning to see the logic in it. Alot of people expected Clark to be gone by now with Olsen on the team, and i know he is signed, but likely he will be gone after this year. I think they could have drafted his replacement this year, or next year and they felt that Davis (especially in the 5th round) was worth the gamble this year. I am guessing he was at the top of the bears draft board and they felt that he would be the guy to replace clark and his value was too good to pass on.
  12. with an absolutely abysmal offense last year we were 1 horrendously blown 4th quarter vs. the lions away from being an 8-8 team last year.....if our defense stays healthy, and with an easier schedule i think we can go 9-7
  13. KC and pitt were my top two...i actually didnt like washington...WRs are just so likely to end up as busts..and i hate brennan as a prospect
  14. i remembered seeing steltz get just lit up against kentucky...and i was able to dig it up on youtube... jump to 5:17 or so on this clip http://youtube.com/watch?v=2MhoCu28Uys
  15. just watched some youtube clips on monk...wow im impressed...guys is huge and pretty quick...between him, olsen, and davis, we have some redzone threats for sure.... in his first three seasons at ark he had 122 catches and 24 TDs...thats a damn good ratio
  16. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8079936...s-for-NFC-teams that guy liked it apparently
  17. i love ellis....i went to an SEC school and saw dorsey play a ton over the last 2 years.. and from what little i have seen of ellis...id rather ellis i think...he single handedly took over that sr. bowl....regardless he wont fall to 14...too many teams like the saints and cincy want him ray rice reminds me a bit of maurice jones drew...short, good leverage...runs strong, powerful but quick and patient...
  18. that guy is such a sleaze ....and he looks alot like paul konerko
  19. i got no problems going with cherilous, but if we do, id love for us to trade down as i think he will be there later in the first round...see if you can get a second rounder for moving down to the mid 20s....then hope to get a QB and RB in second round...something like gosder, henne, forte would be nice
  20. if you get a star and one starter out of a draft (which we did at minimum with hester and anderson) then it is a good draft...we also got manning who i think will suprise some people, and dusty who was a 1st round talent that fell because of the baggage...yeah he got injured but if he stays healthy hes gonna be good....this was a very good draft IMO...especially when you compare it to last years draft

    Henne at 14?

I like henne, but not in the first round, at least not at 14... i think henne will be a good ballplayer...he plays in a system at michigan that was pretty similar to ron turners scheme (the bowl game vs. florida when lloyd carr finally opened it up notwithstanding)...he probably has the strongest arm out of any of the QBs in this draft (maybe not flacco..havent seen much of him)...and i think he throws the post pattern as well as any qb ive seen in a long time... im fairly confident that we will take an OT in the first round, but if we can trade down maybe with dallas who could trade up for felix jones, and still nab either otah or williams at 22 (doubtful) or even take cherlious there id be happy then if we took Henne/Brohm and a RB (Forte/Rice/ or Kevin Smith..who i really like) in the second round, then grab a WR and S in the third...
  22. yeah with the lack of WR depth i think we will be seeing alot more two TE sets or with olsen split in the slot
  23. lovie just said at the combine that he thinks devin hester has the the potential to be a #1 WR....not that it means a whole lot, but obviously how the team views Hester as a WR has a big impact on what we will do with berrian

    Pro Bowl

i know the bears D has gotten shredded this year, which is why guys like tillman get no respect...but tillman deserves to go...its been maybe his best year
  25. I agree its too early to tell on bazuin, and i think its too early too tell on dusty too.... the bears need desperately to draft O-line...its generally a low risk pick...i look at new england and they drafted the left side of their studly line in the first and second rounds of the last two drafts....light and mankins...they also got koppen a few years ago...this is where we need the most help...and waiting til the 4th round to get guys like beekman isnt going to help... where has beekman even been this year? generally when you draft an olineman you expect him to be ready to play....john st. claire started over him the other day...is he injured or something? i would expect us to at least get a look at josh if we are getting a look at orton
